Savage Model 99G, 24" Bbl., Cal. .300 Savage - SN 298XXX (1927). Perfect bore and very nice action. Barrel retains 95% + blue, Take-down flange 50% thinning blue, receiver about 92% - faint cc on lever - excellent mechanics - rear sight is missing. No rust, pitting, etc. Both forend and buttstock appear to have some kind of impressed checkering that was put on long ago, then someone attempted to refinish the wood by putting oil or varnish...over the checkering and everything - no evidence of sanding, but not a great job! PG cap has been removed and the screw hole filled and sling swivel studs added. Wood is original to gun as fit is good and SN inside forend matches. This is a very nice old Pre-War Savage take-down with very good ++ metal, no extra holes, etc. and would make a great shooter or hunter as is. However, with a little patience, the buttstock and forend could be properly refinished, making a sharp looking rifle. * Additional pictures available.
