Armalite AR-180 Original HOWA
|
|
Armalite AR-180 in 5.56mm NATO (.223 Rem); excellent condition, no wear, rust, stain in metal or polymer. This rifle includes a rare scope mount with standard 1-inch scope ring; it accepts a one-inch diameter scope. The scope mount is a quick-detachable style made to fit the scope base unique on this rifle. The military iron sights are nicely visible and usable while the scope mount with scope is attached.
There is one original Armalite 20-round magazine and one polymer Thermold 30-round magazine; both of these magazines are made for Armalite, that is, they are not modified AR-15 mags, so they only fit this Armalite rifle. The Armalite 20-round magazine has the original Armalite logo on the bottom.
The Armalites made by Howa of Japan are the fewest in number of the three manufacturers, and is considered most desirable by collectors.
Additional close-up photos are available; please provide an email address for the extra photos.
Historical note:
The AR-180 is a semi-automatic version of the AR-18 design, which was later produced for the civilian market between 1969 and 1972 at Armalite's Costa Mesa (CA)manufacturing plant. The Costa Mesa AR-180s were one of the first military-type semi-automatic rifles to become widely available in the USA. Howa of Japan continued production of the AR-18/AR-180 from 1972 until 1974; Sterling in the UK produced the AR-18/AR-180 from 1976 to mid-1980s.
