High Standard Sentinel R-101 Blue 6” .22 LR 9-Shot VG-Exc 1958 w/Box & Papers

According to Blue Book serialization, this 6 inch Sentinel, serial number 7929xx, was manufactured in 1958. For some reason, the box insert has July 1, 1958 inscribed with a fountain pen. This may have well been written by the original owner since the predominance of fountain pens is consistent with the age of the revolver.
Detractions are only from normal use and storage. The cylinder marking is at most moderate, with some whitened contact wear on the rear of the cylinder’s entire edge and on the left side frame where cylinder enters and exits. Barrel has about 10 or 15 percent tiny inconspicuous spotting. Matte frame shows scouring in a relatively narrow area of the frame as it rises behind the cylinder on its left side, whiteness to the left edge of trigger guard and at the lower front edge of left side frame. Cylinder yoke has a narrow line of white on its lower, wider area in its high center. Right side of frame is less affected, with narrow white showing at rear edge and lower forward edge. There is one tiny white scratch on forward edge of right side of frame halfway between cylinder center and bottom. There is one small scuff directly behind hammer pivot pin on right side, and a tiny amount of white showing on the right side of trigger guard. Hammer and trigger both show most of the original and very lovely casehardened finish, but with dark toning affecting the trigger and hammer extremities. There is only modest wear apparent on the extremities of both sights. Grip screw shows moderate to heavy stress and some light rust, but grips themselves are excellent.
Bore and chambers are excellent internally with smooth surfaces, absolutely no pitting, and strong rifling. Carbon residue on cylinder front is moderate, with a bit more on underside of top strap directly above the forcing cone. Cylinder has a bit of forward and backward movement when opened, and ejector is not spring-loaded. Double action pull is relatively light and very smooth, with the hammer only traveling about 1 or 2 degrees after the cylinder times into place on double action. Single action pull is light but a bit mushy, not as crisp as some of us would like it; but the hammer travels 15 or 20 degrees on single action after the cylinder times into place. While we admit that our objectivity is affected by this 1958 6” Sentinel having its original box and papers, we consider it to be in the high Eighties percentage wise, on the verge of being entitled to the word Excellent. The photographs, however, should suffice for interested parties to judge finish grade for themselves. We’re offering this semi-centenarian, almost 50-year-old Sentinel, for only $319.95
