US M-1873 Springfield Trapdoor 45-70 SRC w/ M-1884 breech bolt, 22 inch round bbl, early-range serial number - 37xxx. Bore is excellent. 1873 rear sight with "C" on left side. Lock is marked "US Springfield". marking forward of the hammer is a spread eagle with "US Springfield". No date mark on rear of lock. One barrel band, with "U" stamp. Buttplate has trapdoor for oval hole in butt, and three holes in the wood for the cleaning rod. Heel stamped "US". Trigger-guard is blued, 2-piece construction. No sling-rings on trigger guard or barrel band. Sling-bar w/ ring opposite the lock-plate. No inspectors cartouche on wood to the rear of the sling-bar. Stamping to the rear of the trigger guard - illegible. There is a circular mark adjacent to the rear of the sling-bar. The stock appears to have been sanded; the lock-plate metal is proud of the wood. Arch of the breech-block measures 1 7/8 inches. Stock has several superficial dents and scratches, but its very sound; no cracks. The bluing is about 90%, on the barrel band 95%. Case colors on the receiver are a mottled silver.
