Winchester M-70, 30-06, Type III, Variation I, Super Grade, BA, 24” barrel, serial number 167xxx, made in 1950. Special order features. The Type III distinguishing feature is the receiver with tapered tang. Variation I features are the bolt stop with undercut notch, bolt with solid-handle knob, and bolt sleeve with flat right profile. See: “The Rifleman’s Rifle,” Roger C. Rule, 1982, p. 143. Hooded ramp front sight, filler-block in dove-tail in barrel boss, Redfield mount, Weaver KV scope. Integral box magazine. Floor-plate marked “Super Grade.” Barrel, trigger, floor plate blued, 100% coverage. Receiver is beaded blue, 100% coverage. The stock is beautiful: Hand-cut checkering, unchecked diamond around front stock screw that anchors into the bottom of the barrel boss. LOP 13 ¾” over checked steel butt plate with tang into heel. Checkered pistol grip with WRACO cap - 2 very small mars, barely noticeable. Super grade sling swivels. Right-hand cheek piece - European-style small oval design (1936-1954). Bakelite nose on forend. The underside of the barrel is marked “1906 50.” The bottom of the receiver flat, to the rear of recoil lug, is stamped “2,” “C,” and “A.” Please note: The bolt handle is polished bright; the bolt body is also polished bright, but shows signs of light honing of potential high points to make the action as smooth as glass. The extractor is blue and shows no wear whatsoever. The magazine follower is not jeweled, which is indicative of a special order feature for accurizing. Various internal parts have a residue of a cosmoline-like preservative. Research conducted with the Winchester historian, and the service department, reveal that this is likely the case. A service department representative also advised that this is not unusual, and he had seen several M-70 Super Grades in this configuration. This beautiful rifle does not show any evidence of ever being fired. There are no marks on the bolt face, no primer residue, etc. We believe this rifle, in its present configuration, is as it was when it left the factory on special order. The only deviation from the norm is the finish on the bolt and follower. This could easily and inexpensively be changed. However, we believe that would be detrimental to the gun’s value and special features. Overall condition is as NEW. FFL Required. Thank You For Bidding! Please email for phone # or more photos. Please Note we do not test fire the guns we sell. We preferably Accept, US Postal Money Orders, Money orders, And Bank Cashiers Checks. VISA, MasterCard, Discover may also be used. If a credit card is used an additional 3.5% fee will be assessed to the original cost. EX: 3.5% of $20.00 is .70 Cents. We DO NOT Accept PayPal. Payment Is EXPECTED Within 10 Days After Close Of Auction. Buyer Is Responsible For Shipping, Handling & Insurance Charges. Shipping and handling is $35.00, depending on location. NY Residents must pay sales tax, percentage according to county in which high bidder resides. We will email the high bidder within 2-business days of auction close with payment instructions.
