Very rare Forehand and Wardsworth .44 cal center fire carbine. With a 23 " part round/ octagonal carbine barrel and high figural walnut grain stock, Less than 2000 made , few survived when they went West! Metal is grey, not a rusty gun. The breech opens by lowering the trigger guard. Origianlly made by Ethan Allen, production taken over by Forehand & Wardsworth!Bore is dark but has very strong rifling. for a .44 cal. cartridge, not the .44-40!
