Antique German (Prussian?) Officer's Smallsword with spring-loaded folding inboard shell guard, originally gilded but this has mostly worn away. Hilt is bronze. Blade spotted randomly with black stains, minor pitting (bloodstains?) Blade makers Weyersburg, Kirschbaum & Co. merged in 1883 & their logo is stamped into the blade ricasso. On the reverse side is stamped "Mohr&Speyer, Strassburg". All parts of sword are original, including stiff leather scabbard with bronze throat and tip. A fine historical artifact.
