Second Model Maynard Carbine (mfg. 1863-65) with stock showing honest age with only light handling marks. Inspector cartouches are very crisp. Barrel is part octagon - part round with blue finish. +95% blue shows scattered light rust with some light pitting in the muzzle section. Folding express sights. Receiver shows light traces of case coloring and a rust brown/silver patina mixing. Markings on the right side are crisp and somewhat difficult to read on the left because of light pin-prick pitting. Sling ring. Finger lever and hammer rust brown/silver patina with light pitting present. Designed by Dr. Edward Maynard, inventor of the tape primer ignition system. Like all 2nd models, this carbine dispenses with the Maynard tape prime system and utilizes the more modern percussion. Bore on this one is fair – good. This Civil War carbine is a true collector’s piece. Because of it’s small size, stowable in a saddle holster and easy to handle in battle from the back of your horse.
