Description: Used Uberti clone of the Smith & Wesson Schofield Russian in 45 Colt. A unique opportunity for Cowboy action shooters a distinctive revolvers of the old west, faster to load and unload the Colt SAA. Used. Some discoloration of the bluing on the cylinder – otherwise in excellent condition.

A modern copy of the revolver produced by Smith & Wesson for the Tsarist Government of Russia. Major George Schofield had introduced improvements to S&W’s breaktop revolvers to make them more useful for mounted troops. The U.S. Army purchased a number of these and they were fairly popular – but the Colt SAA won out even though the Schofield was faster loading. Nevertheless, the Schofield design impressed many people such as Pat Garrett, Jesse James John Wesley Hardin, and Major General Alexander Gorloff, the Russian military attaché. He convinced the Russian Army to place an initial order for 4,3000. In all, the Tsarist Government of Russian would purchase 130,000 Russian Model Schofield from S&W. The Russians also reversed engineered the revolver, producing a clone of their own that was sold to various Balkan armies, the Ottoman Turks, and the Japanese. Over a quarter of a million revolvers of this type were used by various military forces.

The Russians insisted on a series of modifications to the original Schofields. The Russian revolver has a different grip designed to provide better control over recoil. This “innovation” was so successful that many, including William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody, considered the Russian model to be the most accurate firearm of the 1’s. The most noticeable feature is the distinctive little spur on the trigger guard. No one seems to know why this was done – but it really does make for a nice two-handed stance.

The Uberti version has external dimensions of the original version, but barrel and topstrap are thickened for additional strength and a lengthened cylinder to accommodate .45 Colt. Weighing 2.8 pound, the total length 13 inches long, with a 6.5 inch barrel. Blue with case hardened trigger guard, hammer, and lanyard ring, his Revolver has the Cyrillic phrase stamped on the top of the barrel. (Russian pistol made by Uberti of Italy).
