Fox A Grade 16ga.- FACTORY ENGLISH GRIP
This is a very hard to find shotgun, factory stocked with the rare option of straight stock. Pair that with the 26” number 3 weight barrels choked at SK/IC, and 6lb. weight balanced right on the hinge pin and you have the perfect upland bird gun for tight cover as well as a great skeet or clays gun. Made in 1925 and in fine original condition, it will be a long time before this opportunity passes your way again.
The 26” Chromox Steel barrels are choked .006/.013 with excellent bores, ribs are tight and barrels ring, double ivory beads (front bead presently chipped), .661/.663 internal bore diameter, minimum barrel wall thickness of 33 thousandths, normal handling marks and 90% factory blue, 2 9/16” chambers (chambers and forcing cones can be lengthened for $120 additional within 2 days of purchase. Not required to shoot modern loads but does reduce recoil), extractors, all in good shape.
The receiver has sharp, clear engraving, perfect screws, action tight on face and hinge pin like a new gun, lever well right of center, about 20% case color remaining, double triggers that break crisp and clean, trigger guard grey, auto safety, all in excellent working condition.
The wood is typical American walnut, with clear, sharp factory checkering, no cracks or repairs anywhere, ENGLISH STYLE BUTTSTOCK W/SPLINTER FOREND, excellent wood to metal fit, finish has plenty of small dings and scratches from use, 14 7/16” LOP to factory butt plate, 2 ½” drop at heel, 1 ½” drop at comb for excellent shooting dimensions. There are no dents or dings that will not come out if the stock is refinished.
This is a great Philly Fox with natural wear and no refinishing. What a lightening fast gun for grouse, quail, woodcock, or pheasants over dogs. I prefer the English stock on all of my guns, as do most upland hunters. The guns are just racy looking and so few of them were produced that supply falls way short of demand. This is an investment quality firearm due to its desirability and hard to find configuration.
I offer full restoration services for this gun or any other you may want work done on. My dealer status gets me reduced rates and rapid turn around times, so if there is anything you want altered on this gun or any other gun you or I may have, I can make it happen. Stock bending, refinishing of wood, rust blue, case colors, choke or chamber alterations can all be done for much less than you may expect, and in very short turn around times. The gunsmiths I use for various projects are well known to me and specialize in American double shotguns. No trial and error required!
I have more photos of this gun upon request. There is a full 30 day mechanical warranty on this gun. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER FINE VINTAGE FIREARMS ON THIS WEBSITE. I have many guns in my safe not yet listed, so ask if you do not see what you are after. Thanks for looking!
