We have sold many Llamas for many years. Since our late proprietors emeritus began trading guns commercially in 1952, we have always had a high regard for Spanish made firearms, and do not hesitate to recommend their quality to anyone. Earlier Llama autos would not feed hollowpoint ammunition, but neither would Colts and Brownings until the late 1980s. This is the descendant of the IX-B Government Size .45 introduced in 1952. The Max-I was manufactured in Spain by the Fabrinor S.A. Company in Vitoria, Spain, a cooperative owned by the factory gunsmiths themselves. While the older Llamas were rough around the edges, this is a very slick, very dressy pistol. This Max-I was only manufactured from 1995 until 1999. Finish is entirely blue steel except for the hard chromed serrated commander style hammer, the beavertail grip safety, the serrated C type mainspring housing, extended main safety, extended slide release, extended magazine release, barrel bushing, spring cap, and serrated faced trigger. Note the 12-groove XSE type front slide serrations. Sights are medium height fixed blade rear with semi-stepped stake-on steel front, all of them three dot. Barrel is blue steel 5 inch with Spanish proof marks. Grips are original Llama logo hard checkered rubber, and both magazines are the original factory matte-finished steel 7 shot. This Llama Max-I, of course, will accept any Government 1911 Magazine. Weight is 40 1/4 ounces empty. This specimen’s only surface detractions are one small scoured and whitened spot on the right left rear area of the grip frame near the top of the Mainspring Housing. Operation contact buffing to the barrel is minimal; and from our knowledge of this pistol and its owner, it has been fired fewer than 300 rounds. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. We rate it as Excellent finishwise and mechanically, since no more than 5 percent of its surfaces are affected by any kind of detractions by our estimate; photos, however, should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves.
