The REGULATION POLICE was the first of the S&W swing out cylinder revolvers. This particular revolver was made in 1917 the first year od such revolver production. It is chambered for five .38 Smith and Wesson cartridges. The only mar on the original (93%) finish is a worn spot right on the blue on the trademark on the left side. either from the shooters thumb over the last 118 years. This revolver has the unusual large block lettered REGULATION POLICE on the right side of the four inch barrel. All of the stamping is sharp and clear as is the checkered Diamond grip panels. The bore is sharp and clear.The trigger mechanism, both D/A and S/A .. have fine let offs. The cylinder release on this five screw frame functions with perfection. This was one of the first of the swing-out S&W revolvers and with the exception of a single mar it is perfect after who knows how many rounds down the barrel.
