This is the snub variant of the E.A.A. Windicator, a credible .357 Magnum chambered Double Action revolver. The Weirauch Family of manufacturers in Germany are best known for their Beeman Air Rifles and attractive Single Action Cowboy Revolvers. German initials HWS stand for Heinrich Weirauch Suhl, neighbor to notable manufacturers like J.P. Sauer and Sohn. We’ve known them for almost 50 years now with their Titan Tiger and HW7 Revolvers, both of which are collectable with some specimens approaching the 50 year C&R Status mark. Construction is steel main frame, steel barrel and internal parts, and traditional pot-metal barrel shroud on the order of the better RG revolvers and the HW-357. Finish is Blue Steel and Black anodized on the alloy parts. Barrel is 2 inch with an indented rib, not ventilated like the older HW-357, but one that, like its Rossi 951 Competitor, adds strength to the barrel. Grip frame is a steel stem much on the same order as the Ruger GP revolvers, and the grip is a pleasant feeling round butt size combat finger groove grip, about the same size as the Sile Grips for Colt D Frame revolvers from the 1970s. Firing pin is a floater, like the current crop of Smith & Wessons, and firing pin and spring maintenance is relatively easy with a split screwdriver. Weight is a well balanced 25 ounces. This revolver, as its fans in Memphis say, has the Weight and the Power. Capacity is 6 rounds of .38 Special or .357 Magnum interchangeably. On these, much like the small frame Rossis, we recommend firing with .38 Special and then only sparing use of full-house magnums. Like most double actions, the Weirauch design of this E.A.A. Windicator is equipped with a transfer bar to keep the hammer away from the firing pin on a chambered round during transport. Note that the Weirauch logo is tastefully executed on the forward right side of the frame, next to the words Made in Germany, right beside the brand name EAA Rockledge, Florida.
