The knife in the photo is the exact same knife that the winning buyer will receive. We sell knives like we get them, normally one at a time from collections; we are not Case Dealers, and we are a small specialty store. We are unclear as to the exact introduction date on this Circle C Case. At one point, about 40 years ago, we owned a rat-tail Circle C identical in pattern to this one. Note that the bolster rivet has been replaced, and more important, the reverse handle panel has been replaced by leather. There is one pecked and partially chipped area on the lower portion of the obverse panel about halfway between the two left panel rivets; and there is a crack in the obverse panel beneath the center rivet. We estimate that the main clip blade is about 80 percent intact, victim of flat sharpening; and the flesh blade is of similar proportions. The man who owned this knife, Mr. Van Crowe from Jacks Creek, Tennessee, has been deceased now for about 30 years. Mr. Crowe ran a barbecue pit at Jacks Creek from shortly after World War II until his death in the early 1970s. The pit is still operational under the expert proprietorship of Joe and Patty Joyner, Joyner’s Jacks Creek Pit Barbecue.
