Description: Up for sale: Eagle MK II .45 open bolt semi auto carbine.

This is the predecessor to the Spitfire Machinegun, the highest quality of the family and cleanest looking... many C3 MK IIs are out there, post conversion, pre-86 This is a great condition Eagle MK II, semi (only open bolt Eagle model that was missed, by name, when ATF reclassified the Spitfire’s as machineguns – see “History” for the full story!).

History: The Eagle Mark I, followed later by the Mark II version, were the first of several open bolt carbines to be manufactured and sold in the 1960's. These were followed by the Spitfire, the Apache and the Commando Carbine which appeared in the early 1970's. All were semiauto carbines that fired either .45 ACP or 9mm pistol cartridges using surplus Thompson, M3 or Sten magazines… they were all functionally identical, but the later models were not as “clean” or well-made as the original MKI & MkII. The Spitfire gained special attention as it was later determined a machinegun by the ATF. It was discovered during testing that if you hold down the safety while pulling the trigger, the gun would fire full auto. This was a major flaw in the design, and one that caused a reclassification. The Eagle Arms MK II had a recall against it, so the ATF never named it when the others were reclassified, as none should be left in civilian hands! The MKII slipped thru the cracks at the NFA. These are a very rare item to find today and sell for ridiculously high prices!.

MKII INFO: The main difference between a pre-conversion MKII and a Spitfire converted to full auto fire intentionally is that the disconnector is also the ejector on a MKII. Spitfires usually have the top of the disconnector cut off and an ejector welded in the tube upper. Also on this gun, the registered part is the tube upper and on a spitfire the reg. part is the lower receiver. Info can be had on the internet about the Eagle MK I, II, Spitfires, volunteer's, closed bolt volunteers, etc.

These guns have about a 16 1/4" barrels and take a M3A1 grease gun mag with a D indentation on the LS top of mag. Also for ease of cleaning or transportation, the barrel unscrews from the registered upper receiver… making a real nice briefcase gun, see the photos!

By using shorter bolts in the rear of the receiver, it will fire without the Thompson style buttstock.
