Of the 5 original 1894 calibers, 32-40 is the scarcest and considered the most accurate for that era. Made in 1899, this gun grades NRA Excellent for metal with approximately 95% original finish, the barrel being a pleasing old blue and the magazine tube having a mixture of old blue and blue/brown, some light flaking on right side of receiver, and the balance of the gun grades NRA Fine with a shiny bore. The foreend tip has about 50% original finish. The buttplate, as usual, has no blue but does have some pitting (1" X 5/8") , probably caused by resting on a piece of wood. The gun is 113 years old and "USED, BUT NOT ABUSED" and appears to have been well cared for by its original owner. I've owned it for 28 years. The lever and hammer have some case colors. Hammer has the old style heart-shaped knurling pattern. Rear sight is a Marbles Flat Top Sporting Rear sight with double step elevator, thumb button and reversible U/V notches. It is known as the 2&3/4" sight but actually measures 3&1/8" overall. Front sight is #21 Sporting with insert blade. The factory records at Cody say it was shipped with a tang peep sight. It was not there when I bought it and the little filler screw is missing. Barrel corners sharp. Action is perfect. This is a fine addition to any collection that you will be proud to own. Made in 1899, so can ship to a C&R licensee or FFL holder. Additional photos available to serious buyer.
