Description: Winchester Model 1894 Sporter in much sought 38-55 cal. Mfr.1897,S/N 105180, making it one of the early receivers mfr. for the 1894. Overall NRA Antique Condition "Fine", Bore "Excellent". 85% or better original blueing (receiver, barrel, full mag. tube). Original, un-retouched or refinished wood and metal, w/original parts and fully functional with tight & smooth action. Some case on checkered hammer & minor, natural signs of wear on lever. Stock and fore end have expected light scratches that do not penetrate original lacquer. Two 1 1/4" long deeper ones on stock & upper tang that are uniform. 1/32" deep small depressions equally on left/right sides of rear sight (again, so not penetrate original finish). Graduated light to dark rich patina on steel crescent butt plate (darker patina located where butt would naturally rest on shooter's shoulder). Wood to metal fit is excellent. Screws all excellent and appear to be untouched. Great example of a very early 1894. Been stored (at least for last 15yrs. since qcquired) at 40-50 % relative humidity. Perfect for the collector yet fully functional for shooting.

I'm former lawyer who quit practicing after 24yrs. to become my 90yr. old Mother's caregiver. I'm planning on selling my beloved Winchester Model 1894 26" barrel lever-action rifle. It was made in 1897 in 38-55 cal. and is still a fully operational Sporter. I own but do not collect firearms but this rifle has been in the gun safe for over 25yrs. and never been fired. Its classed as an "antique" because it was made prior to 1898, so it can be transferred between private parties without the need to ask your gun store to receive it and the buyer fill out an FFL form. (Most gun stores hate to assist you anyway when you buy a gun online anyway). Using the NRA methods of determining the condition of an antique/collector's rifle, its in Fine to Excellent condition, retaining nearly 90% of original bluing on barrel, feed tube and both sides/top of receiver with no pitting. Fine to Excellent bore. The stock and fore end have some normal superficial scratches. There are two 1" scratches on each side of the stock and two 1/2" indentations on each side of the fore end. Crescent butt plate is in Very Good to Fine condition with a little dark burnishing, patina really, at the spot where the rifle would have been against the shoulder. For my profile, I'm a retired former Deputy Attorney General (WV) restoring a '77 Mercedes 450SL,The '94 rifle though is an un-retouched 1897 original.
