We have a photo of our proprietor emeritus taken in 1917 holding his Stevens Crackshot #26 boys rifle. Production began in 1913 of this popular and desireable rifle, and it was sadly discontinued in 1941. We estimate that this one came midways through that period, late 1920s to early 1930s. Receiver has the SVG stamp and an encircled letter I on the barrel and receiver, possibly a date code. Its home domicile was in neighboring Madison County, Tennessee; and it is better preserved than many we have seen. Finish is textured brown patina over the barrel and lever, with perhaps 30 percent of its original bluing. Barrel measures 22 inches, and the steel fixed rear sight and brass blade front sight are original. Buttstock and forend are both original American Walnut; and they show only moderate scouring and edge wear, and no cracks. Bore does not show any pitting, and only faint pitting in the chamber forward of where a .22 Short Case would reach. Lever has about an inch of lateral play, but it is operative. The hammer stands under pressure, and firing pin, spring, and extractor all look good. We have test fired this rifle and it functions correctly and pulls the spent cases back to the proper length. We rate it as Good finishwise, but photos should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. We also rate it as Good mechanically. Length of pull is the original youth length 13 inches. Own this genuine, original Madison County Stevens #26 Crackshot rifle for only $ 289.00. C&R Eligible, of course.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> $20 flat fee lower 48 states; $50 Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico, UPS Ground with full insurance coverage.
