The 1920s roared not only in Chicago, but in Spain as well. This period gave us notable manufacturers like Star, but also a good many revolver manufacturers out of Spain. Here is one of their Smith & Wesson Hand Ejector clones. Manufacturer was La Armeria Elgoibaresa, or A.E., of Eligobar in the Basque Country of Spain. Chambering is low velocity World War One era .38 Special Cartridges, and this is not a strong built revolver. Construction is entirely steel, with exception of the mother of pearl grips, but the steel’s strength is suspect. Type is traditional swing out double and single action revolver. Barrel is 6 inch with eight groove right hand rifling; the muzzle and cylinder chamber mouths gauge at .356 - .358, so the barrel stamping of .38 Special and U.S. Service Ctgs. is correct. That does Not mean anyone should attempt to fire it. Sight is barrel integral half moon blade front with frame integral fixed notch rear on the order of the Hand Ejectors of the period. Frame is 5 screw type. Trigger is smooth faced with old style serrated spur hammer. Finish is nickel plated, with case colored trigger and hammer. Surface detractions are moderate to extensive, principally finish loss on the cylinder, yoke, rod, and edges throughout. Pearl grip panels are complete, with surface fractures on the right panel and a possible repair to the left panel. We rate this Spanish Revolver as only Fair, perhaps Good, 50 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos ought to suffice for our shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Cylinder rotates correctly on all positions, but fails to time correctly on three positions. Lateral play to the cylinder is substantial, 3mm by our estimate. Cylinder chambers show about 30% light pitting, with less in the bore. This revolver came to us from a New England collection. From its 10000 range serial number, it was manufactured in the mid to late 1920s, and it is in original configuration. We’re offering it for only $ 169.00.
