This is a very rare Webley revolver as pictured on page 57, Fig. IV/10, "Webley Revolvers," by Bruce. The bore is slightly larger than a .38 so I believe it is in .422 caliber, the same as noted in Bruce's book. Revolvers of this type were produced from about 1866 to 1880 as holster weapons for military service. They have six chambered cylinders with rachet stops. "A spring clip at one side of the lockwork enables the hammer to be set at half cock; on squeezing the trigger, or at full cock, a catch at the top of the spring is disengaged. (A similar device was used on some Webley percussion models). The cylinder axis pin is held in position by a thumbscrew at the lefthand side of the frame... An ejector rod is housed inside the stock, where it is secured by being screwed into the baseplate." This one is serial number 30053 which dates it to about 1870. It is in real fine condition with the finish being a mixture of original blue and smooth "plum" patina. The finely checkered, Walnut grips are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The barrel is approximately 4-3/16 inches long. The topstrap is marked, "P. Webley & Son London & Birmingham." Both sides of the barrel lug are marked with the Webley Flying Bullet Logo. This rare revolver is a must for every advanced, Webley collection. It comes with an original, black leather holster which is marked inside of the flap with a four leaf clover and possibly the date but it is unreadable. The belt loop is marked, "Hand Sewn." There is no damage. This fine holster is as rare as the revolver itself. This revolver is an antique and can be shipped directly to your door without an FFL or license of any type. Additional photos on request.
