Remington 1894 FE Trap 12ga.- NITRO STEEL, EJECTORS, CONDITION!
Have you seen many engraved Remington doubles lately? Look the net over thoroughly and you will find few indeed. The Model 1894 was the first top lever, hammerless double offered by Remington and had less than 16 years of production with the last made in 1910. Remington was known for work horse guns and there are plenty of old damascus A Grade 1894's for sale, some even with nitro steel barrels, but engraved Remingtons are rarely seen. The FE Trap Gun was introduced in 1906 (the year of this fine gun's manufacture) as a continuation of the Pigeon Grade introduced in 1902. Built with special attention to boring and choke for competitive shooting, Remington paid attention to detail on their Trap guns. Wood selected for heavy repetitive shooting, finely checkered and fit to the receiver to perfection, weight forward balance, and just over 8lbs., the gun is a natural clays gun. The FE engraving consisted of simple scroll and line work, with nice detail on the screw heads that added a touch of class to a well made American double. This Remington FE Trap, snP133241. remains in very nice condition with excellent mechanics and plenty of factory blue and case color remaining, as well as a nice stick of English walnut for its straight hand stock. A great gun to shoot vintage clays or any bird on the wing you care to chase, and a great investment in a hard to find American classic.
The 30" Remington Steel nitro barrels are choked IM/F (can be altered to your desires for $70 per barrel) with great bores, .728/.729 bore diameters, minimum wall thickness of 29 thou right, 30 thou left, plenty of light handling marks and 95% factory blue, 2 3/4" chambers, tight ribs, strong well timed ejectors, barrels tight on breech face and hinge pin like a new gun, concave rib, a great set of barrels.
The receiver retains 40% faded case color, excellent screws, clean sharp engraving and lettering, strong ejectors, action tight with lever right of center, crisp double triggers, trigger guard grey, mechanically excellent throughout. The engraving is simple in nature, but executed delightfully like all Remington engraved doubles. It dresses the gun up just enough where you can be proud and it is definitely beyond a simple field grade gun.
The wood is nicely figured English walnut with excellent checkering, newly restored to perfection, no splits, cracks, or repairs, 13 3/4" LOP to a new genuine Silvers pad (Trap Grades were shipped with a pad, the old one was shot), 12 3/4" LOP to the end of the wood, 2 5/8" drop at heel, 1 11/16" drop at comb, 1/8" cast off (can be bent to your specs for about $180 within 10 days of purchase), excellent wood to metal fit. The forend hardware is elaborate and decorative, and the wood and checkering is excellent.
Weighing in at 8lbs. 2oz. and balanced just ahead of the hinge pin, the gun feels substantial in hand with great handling characteristics for clays or upland game. With ejectors, engraving, Remington steel barrels it is a rare find and worthy of your investment. Cared for properly it will continue to gain value as you enjoy its use.
There are more photos upon request. The gun comes with a 30 day mechanical warranty. Please see our other fine Vintage Firearms on this website.
