Here is the reincarnation of John M. Browning’s Winchester 1892 Trapper, an R92 Lever Action chambered in .45 Colt Caliber, manufactured in Brazil by Rossi and imported by Braztech, a wing of Taurus International in Miami. We have sold these great little rifles for four decades now, first Interarms import, and now Braztech. Its only departures from the classic 1892 design is a hammer block safety, mounted unobtrusively on top of the bolt just forward of the hammer, and the inconspicuous hammer lock. Trigger is .275 smooth faced steel, with serrated spur .365 hammer. The 92 has a half cock position, but it does not have a lever safety; that did not come until 1894. Metal is entirely blue steel, and the stock and forend are walnut finished Brazilian hardwood. Buttplate is blue steel as well. Weight is 6 pounds empty, with center of gravity at the loading gate. Barrel is 16 inch 1:30 right hand six groove. Sights are both dovetailed, brass beaded steel front, with buckhorn style step elevation adjustable rear. Windage is drift adjustable only. Magazine capacity is 8 + 1 rounds of .45 Colt ammunition. This particular rifle comes to us from an Ozark collection. Receiver area has been professionally polished to dim the bluing. Buttstock has a neatly executed 1935 Buffalo Nickel inlaid on its right side, with Chief Iron Tail’s likeness on the obverse display. Surface detractions are minimal. Apart from the deliberate weakening to the receiver blue to make this rifle more Winchester-y looking, we only see some faint whitening on its lever edges. We rate it as Excellent, 90% vicinity by our estimate; but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. From the minimal wear to its loading gate, we estimate this 92 was fired fewer than 50 times. Trigger pulls at a crisp 4 1/2 pounds with negligible felt creep. Replacement price on this rifle is upwards of $600 in our area.
