This is a 100% original M1890 Watervliet Arsenal 3.6 inch Mortar marked #62, 1901 dated and inspector J.P.F. (Farley) These mortars were used in Cuba in 1898 during the Spanish American War and later in the Philippines during the Insurrection. It is a "bag gun" and does not need to be registered. This piece is all original with the exception of the exact replica brass data plate and the front sight. It is properly seated on it's original M1895 carriage. The block and block carrier are currently rusted together and the carrier will not open. It will open with lots of persistence as it is not locked. If the unit is to be restored to firing condition it would need to be relined and threads replaced to lock in the interrupted block threads and other minor machine work. Only 78 mortars were produced, of these I have located 22 most of which are in museums and parks, and only 9 of the 22 are in private hands and potentially available for sale. The barrel weighs 244 pounds and the carriage approx. 300 pounds. Shipping to most places in the US would be approximately $500. An exceedingly rare cannon with a great history. Lots of photos available, questions always answered. Trades considered, terms available. Please feel free to call me; OBO Condition: Used - See Item Description Caliber: (Other Ammo?)
