Taurus continues improving upon Beretta’s Jetfire series with this new PT-22 Poly Pistol. It is a great little takeoff on the Beretta model 21, the Taurus PT-22 Pistol chambered to hold 8 + 1 rounds of .22 Long Rifle ammunition. It is full time double action, yet it has a positive lock side safety. It has a keyed internal mainspring lock. For added security, this Taurus is equipped with a Magazine Safety, meaning that it cannot be fired even with a live round in the barrel and the main safety off, not until the magazine is re-inserted. An added safety feature is the Beretta type tip-up barrel that allows easy loading and unloading without racking the slide, something many of our fellow boomers are no longer able to do anyway with the onset of Arthur – itis, that is. Add the light weight, 13.5 ounces empty, and a person has one of the best small autos you can buy. Manufacturer is Forjas Taurus, S.A., of Porto Alegre, Brazil. Importer and warrantor is Taurus International of Miami. Construction is steel slide, barrel, internal parts, .220 smooth faced combat trigger and matching bobbed hammer. Frame is high impact black polymer. Slide and barrel are stainless steel, with scale serration laterals. Barrel is tip up type, 2 3/8 inch six groove right hand 1:16 rifling. Sights are barrel integral dimpled blade front, with frame integral fixed notch rear. Caliber is .22 Long Rifle High Speed; magazine capacity is 8 + 1 rounds, and grips are contoured black polymer with stippled sections. Grips will Not interchange with metal frame PT22s; as far as we know, magazines Will interchange, but note that the PT22 Poly’s magazine floorplate is larger than its metal frame compadres’. Overall length is 4 7/8 inches from muzzle to grip frame strut; and height is 4 1/4 inches from the top of the rear sight to the end of the magazine finger rest. Slide thickness is .77 inch at the breech face, and maximum thickness is 1.12 inches at the grip risers. Trigger pull is 1 1/8 inch long, 8 pound vicinity, on average. Each PT22 Poly Stainless comes in its factory box with instruction manual, two keys for its internal lock, protective material, and factory registration card for Taurus’s lifetime factory warranty. Replacement pricing on the now discontinued 21 Beretta in stainless is upwards of $500.
