Many of us remember the 1977 and 1978 three knife Stag Sets issued by W.R. Case and Company during those years in limited quantities. Here is a straggler from one of those sets, a two blade jack similar to the smaller Peanut pattern. Numbered pattern is 52087 SSP, stamped on the reverse tang of the main clip pattern blade. Main blade tang is stamped Case XX / Stainless / USA with 3 dots beneath, so 1977 manufacture. Overall length closed is 3 1/4 inches, and the main blade measures 2 1/2 inches from its heel to its point. Both blades are classic Case streaked finish stainless, and the Clip blade has the blue ink design that is original to it on its obverse side. The star of this knife’s show, of course, are the genuine Sambar Stag handle panels, asymmetrical but nicely aged and with no blemishes. This Case has never been used or sharpened; its only surface detractions are faint amounts of buffing to the blade tangs from contact with the solid brass liners. We rate it as Near Mint, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Backspring strength and fit are excellent.
