NOTE: This is a firing scale model intended to be fired with black powder or black powder substitute, and not a limp reproduction built for display only.
To the best of my understanding, this is a 1/5 scale model of an anti-personnel stone mortar based on research of the Gribeauval System of the late 18th century. In my limited research of the Gribeauval system, I've found drawings of similar guns, but have not uncovered any renderings of Gribeauval's 15" stone mortar, of which I believe this is a model.
Brass barrel is turned from a solid billet (not a casting), and the carriage is milled from solid steel with mahogany furniture and machined brass fittings.
Bore is 90mm or 3.5", with a chamber approximately 1.5" in diameter and 3" deep with hemispherical bottom. Trunnions are set under a heavy press fit into deep pockets milled into the barrel, then brazed for a smooth contour.
Weight of piece is ~45 lbs, carriage weight is ~48 lbs with total weight of 93 lbs. Heavy ordnance suitable for only the most robust of coffee tables.
Approximate dimensions: 12" H x 12" W x 20" L
Weight: 93 lbs
Construction: Machined brass and steel with mahagony
