LG1210 Date Code on this Remington Game Master 760’s barrel, is a somewhat confusing set of triple letters, DRB. Its serial number is 534000 range. The B letter in the barrel code would indicate 1955, but that is probably not quite right, because Remington’s own Firearm History web page indicates that the 760s chambered in .308 were manufactured in 1957 only; further, the original press-checkered walnut stock and forend are 1960s style. We believe it is more correct to use the DR letters only, and argue that this .308 Carbine left Ilion New York in September of 1968, not in November of 1955. That despite the fact that Remington states that serial number 540000 was manufactured in 1967. This rifle comes to us from its exclusive local family of ownership, Tennessee Transplants from New York. Its Williams Sling Swivels are period correct, late 1960s. We installed its Korean made Bushnell 4x12 AO 40mm Sportview Scope and its blue steel Tasco base and medium height rings in the late 1980s. Note that the recoil collar is missing off the scope’s eyepiece; the scope is clear, but not really a notable scope. Barrel is carbine length 18 1/2 inches, and magazine is the original 4 shot blue steel. Metal is classic Remington bright blue with DuPont RKW glossy finish press-checkered American Walnut stock and forend. Surface detractions are only moderate. Muzzle and front sight show crown whitening and toning, and bronzing to the front sight. We rate the forend as Excellent, and the buttstock as Very Good with moderate contact scouring. Forend tip and liner, and buttplate liner show attractive age yellowing. Metal shows moderate carry whitening on the lower areas of the receiver and trigger guard; and forend contact whitening on the forward edges of the receiver, as the photos show. Receiver has faint amounts of freckling, but original bluing is strong throughout. We rate this 760 Game Master .308 Carbine as Very Good, 80 percent vicinity, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. The 760 series Remingtons have always produced exceptional accuracy; for one thing, their barrels are all free floating from the factory, not the case for their semi-auto siblings. This is a very attractive, eminently serviceable, and somewhat rare variant of the accurate, tried and true Remington 760. Replacement price on this rifle’s in our area is $700 or more, and we prefer this one to a new one because the only new 7600s have synthetic stocks, not walnut. We're offering this fine LBJ/Nixon Era 760 for only $ 489.00. If we keep the scope, $20 off. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> $20 flat fee lower 48 states; $50 Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico, UPS Ground with full insurance coverage.
