We Stand As One! Contact President Obama & Congress on Gun Legislation
We reached an amazing 57,670 signatures before our petition was shut down by the Whitehouse.gov website. Click the picture to view President Obama’s response.
We Stand As One! Contact President Obama & Congress on Gun Legislation
The President has asked us to followup with him commenting on his response. While he did specifically mention law abiding gun owners, his proposed answers of a new ban on semi-automatic rifles and high capacity magazines, as well as requiring that all gun transfers go through an FFL dealer are not acceptable, and you should contact President Obama with a courteous and well thought out response.

Don’t think that we have friends in the conservative national media or conspiracy websites. The Drudge report linked to this crackpot Alex Jones petition at 13,000 signatures while completing ignoring ours at 50,000. We hit 25,000 the first day just after midnight. Not one of the other popular gun websites, nor the popular gun bloggers linked to our petition, despite the fact that there was no connection or link in it to GunsAmerica. We did this by ourselves and for that we should all be very proud, but the work is not over!

Senator Feinstein has released the proposed legislation.

Hi Everyone,

Now is the time that the rubber meets the road with the future of our 2nd Amendment rights. Knee-jerk legislation on “assault weapons” and “high capacity” magazines, though it may sound great, is misguided. You may have already said to yourself “I don’t need one of those things” or “Why would anyone need one of those things?,” but the answer may not be one you are willing to accept. The 2nd Amendment was created to protect Americans from a tyrannical government. And while we sound “conspiracy theory” or “prepper” by just saying this, ask yourself, do you really support knee-jerk legislation that could never have prevented the Sandy Hook killings, or do you just want to make yourself feel good? Why is it that the media jumped on “assault weapons” when we were told for two days after the shooting that the killer had used two handguns? If you are supportive of any restrictive gun legislation today it is solely because you are being played by the media and unscrupulous politicians. If two weeks ago you thought Dianne Feinstein, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid were nut jobs, why would you doubt that today? Please act today to prevent a complete rollback of your 2nd Amendment freedom. Contact your reps in the House of Representatives, as well as your state Senators. Even conservative darlings like Marco Rubio have started to cave on this issue, and it is imperative that you contact every politician who you have voted for or against and stand up for your own 2nd Amendment rights. If you call and get “mailbox is full,” keep trying, and use the web form. We only get one shot at this and the time to act is NOW!

If you have been following our Law Abiding Gun Owner petition at Whitehouse.gov, you know that it was shut off overnight on Thursday, when we sent our last email appealing to women and minority gun owners. Like many others, we suspect that the Whitehouse staffers noticed that the anti-gun petition was dying and that ours was taking off so they nipped it in the bud and published President Obama’s answer. We also got reports that many people could not sign it prior to Friday. Over 57,000 of you were able to make your voices heard, and we would have reached 100,000 alone given the chance. No national media outlet, popular gun website or even popular gun blogger linked to our petition. Thanks to those of you who tried to spread the word, and of course, those who were able to actually sign.

As it turned out, President Obama answered all of the gun petitions, for and against, in one note and video. He did not answer ours specifically. You can read his response here on the original petition page. I do feel that he should have answered us directly because we doubled the requisite number of petition signatures, but he did clearly acknowledge law abiding gun owners in his answer at least. If you read between the lines of what he said and wrote, the President appears to be notifying us that his political hands are tied and that we need to act now by contacting our congress members directly, and also by letting him know what we think of his answer. Rather than hem and haw, I think this is what we should do.

If we stop now, we remove ourselves from the political process and we will lose our gun rights, or at least our ARs and standard capacity magazines, as well as gun shows. President Obama, the most powerful man in the world, has told us that his hands are tied politically. At least please take these steps:

Step 1: Follow up with President Barack Obama: If you click this, it will take you to a contact for that you will again have to plug in your email, because it isn’t connected to the petition website. PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL! Over 500 of you commented on the original article and many of you made great points. Please send President Obama some of these things in a respectful manner.

Step 2: Contact your Representatives in the House: This is not as easy as it sounds. First you have to use the maps on this page to figure out which district you belong to, then you have to call or write them from this page individually. Make sure you look up the correct district. The top choice by state is an overview of the whole state. Click the PDF.

Step 3: Contact Your Senators : Legislation is created in the House and then sent to the Senate, and then to the President to sign. President Obama asked for legislation quickly, so contact your US Senators now. There are only two per state.

The NRA stepped into the discussion on Friday, and they made a lot of great points in their press conference. The media instantly answered that Wayne Lapierre was some kind of extremist, before they could have ascertained any public comment at all. Meanwhile all of their kids go to private schools with armed guards. This is further evidence that “the fix is in” with this crisis. The American public is being played by an agenda put forth by the national media, and I will repeat, they began this BEFORE THE BLOOD WAS DRY IN CONNECTICUT! One hundred percent of the “national outrage” and “changing attitudes about guns” was created by the media, and they are continuing to fan the flames. President Obama is the leader of the free world, but he has clearly told us that he intends to remain also a politician. The national media is flexing their muscles. Please help us flex ours and fill out the President’s comment form and contact your Congress and Senate reps.

As a side note, Alex Jones and the entire conspiracy theory /prepper machine has become the turd in the punchbowl of 2nd Amendment rights. Please do not sit in your armchair on this one and tell yourself “let them try and take my guns away.” None of the Liberty websites picked up our petition, even though all of them, including Alex Jones, are most likely registered on GunsAmerica and get our emails. In fact Alex Jones started his own moronish Whitehouse.gov petition about Piers Morgan, and sure enough, Drudge linked to it when it had only 13,000 signatures. Drudge never picked ours up, even though we exceeded double the required 25,000.

Ranting about conspiracies and revolution removes you as a political force. Please boycott the stupidity and flatulence that is the conspiracy and prepper market. President Obama isn’t trying to sell you hormone pills and water purifiers. The President has invited us to engage the national media and become part of the discussion. Fill out President Obama’s form in a respectful manner, and contact your reps today.

THE GOVERNMENT CAN AND WILL BAN SEMI-AUTOMATIC RIFLES AND STANDARD CAPACITY MAGAZINES. THEY WILL ALSO ELIMINATE ALL PERSONAL INTERSTATE TRANSFERS OF FIREARMS. IF WE DO NOT USE OUR VOICE TODAY IN A CIVIL NATIONAL DISCUSSION WE WILL LOSE IT.

DON’T PAY CRAZY PRICES FOR GUNS AND MAGAZINES. FIGHT THE NATIONAL MEDIA! ENGAGE THE POLITICAL PROCESS and please take the time to do what you can today to voice your concerns in Washington. We are the majority. IT IS TIME TO STOP BEING SILENT.

    Important:
    http://www.ruger.com/micros/advocacy/

Many elected officials have been looking for an opportunity to curtail our gun rights and think they can win now if they move quickly while emotions are high. Not doing anything or thinking someone else will do it so you don’t have to will result in the greatest loss of freedom our country has seen. Now for the easy part: Go here, and let your representatives know how you feel. Your info is NOT retained, and they do all the contacting for you. It’s Ruger’s website. Ruger has been an American business since 1949.

Our system of “checks and balances” has failed.
By using the power of “Executive Action” President Obama has become KING OBAMA and is a TRAITOR.
Our Founding Fathers fought a war to remove a king’s hold over them.
As citizens we have the right to perform a Citizen’s Arrest.
We need to organize a PEACEFUL MARCH ON WASHINGTON. No guns or weapons just American flags.
If I could get there I would go to the front gate and try to perform a Citizen’s Arrest on the President for treason.
I am on Social Security Disability so I have no money. This email may get to someone with power and my benefits may get suspended.
Mt Uncle Eddie dropped out of high school during World War 2 to join the Army. He was killed by a German Sniper Easter Day 1945. He died 10 years before I was born so future generations could live the American Dream. My dad told me “A man has to standup for what is right”. It is my turn to standup. If I get arrested or worse at least my grandkids will know there are things worth dying for.
I live in Ohio and can take another person with me. My truck is a little beat up but runs good. I can fill the tank & maybe able to get 20 gallons in cans. I have coolers so we can take food and drink. No alkohol and no weapons.

[email protected] WE NEED TO BE SEEN.

I have written to everyone I can write to, even Pres. Obama in protest against any kind of new gun laws. Here is a phone number where you can call congress to oppose Sen. Feinstein’s 2013 gun and magazine bill. Give this number to everyone. Write and call every day.

********************WE ARE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA- I WILL STAND WITH MY BROTHER AND SISTER IN ARMS,TO PROTECT MY (OUR) U.S. LAND AND MY FAMILY,MYSELF AND MANY MANY MORE TRUE AMERICANS ARE READY FOR A FIGHT!!! A FIGHT TO THE END…
    READ THIS:

    To Senator Dianne Feinstein,

I will not register my weapons should this bill be passed, as I do not believe it is the government’s right to know what I own. Nor do I think it prudent to tell you what I own so that it may be taken from me by a group of people who enjoy armed protection yet decry me having the same a crime. You ma’am have overstepped a line that is not your domain. I am a Marine Corps Veteran of 8 years, and I will not have some woman who proclaims the evil of an inanimate object, yet carries one, tell me I may not have one.

I am not your subject. I am the man who keeps you free. I am not your servant. I am the person whom you serve. I am not your peasant. I am the flesh and blood of America.

I am the man who fought for my country. I am the man who learned. I am an American. You will not tell me that I must register my semi-automatic AR-15 OR anything else because of the actions of some evil man.

I will not be disarmed to suit the fear that has been established by the media and your misinformation campaign against the American public.

We, the people, deserve better than you.

    Respectfully Submitted,

What I would like to know is this…if the anti-gun legislation passes and the law in effect crushes the 2nd Amendment, how many of you folks owning firearms are willing to put your money where your mouth is? Owning guns and publicly ponificating pro-firearm ownership opinions is one thing….but being willing to commit your life to that pro-firearm cause AND BACK THAT COMMITMENT as our ForeFathers did in their time of revolution is completely another thing. Petitioning and pontificating only will go so far to mitigate the kinds of unilateral DICTATORIALS that have been coming out of AmeriKa’s Napoleanic Washington since the events in CT. So how far are you willing to go? Are you all just talk or would you be willing to walk the walk as well?

    • ken January 6, 2013, 8:30 pm

WANTS TO DISARM US AND MAKE US THE PEASANT,TO SERVE THEM -3rd WORLD IS WHAT THEY WANT–THEY WANT AMERICA ON IT’S KNEE’S,THEY WANT AMERICA TO OBEY TO THE WORLD ORDER—–I WILL GIVE MY HEART AND SOUL SO THAT MY CHILDREN WILL NOT HAVE TO LIVE IN A 3rd WORLD COUNTRY AND YES I WILL **DIE** FOR THE RIGHT TO DEFEND COUNRTY AND FAMILY.

I too went to sign the petition and it was taken down, replaced with Obamas video thank everyone for thier support. No one signing that petition supported his view. What else can we do I have already sent emails to congress which they will probably never see.
    Thank You

Please ask Guns America to include a link to Face Book for articles such as this . FB is already a forum for 2nd amendment rights & advocates . It only takes a moment to post a good article as its got graphics , text & a place to respond . there’s very large participation when our freedoms are threatened . Please try this , God Bless America & thanks to Guns America ., And yes I do contact my Representatives , frequently

  • Colohunter December 31, 2012, 12:46 am

Here is an idea! Let the anti gun people live on one side of the country and the pro gun people live on the other. When they come running to the gun side for protection we can remind them what they voted for!

I said it before and i will say it again. When our government stops hiding behind armed escorts so will I! I can care less if you are the president or in the smallest position of politics, rich or poor, you are no more important to your loved ones and you don’t deserve anymore right to protection than anyone else in this country. I will never surrender my right to protect my family even if it means I have to die trying!

What happened to morality, order and disipline in this country. In Texas, in the 1950s, Vermons Penal Code allowed that a citizen over 18 was responsible for the safety of a person with whom he was escorting (read a date.} Fathers in my circle encouraged their gun-savy kids to “throw one” in the glove compartment. My Colt Commander was there from then on. Never had to use it. DID NOT EXPECT TO HAVE TO USE IT. I know of no one I ever knew in Dallas who had to shot anybody during that era. I have basically followed that dictim ever since–with a CCP wherever required.

Stupidity is defined as doing the same thing over &over and expecting different results, Lets face it folks!! petitions, peaceful protests, billboards, etc etc, Are a total waste of time, We have fallen into evil hands that are deliberately, systematically, and very successfully making this country as weak & vulnerable as possible!!In the very near future we will simply be unable to support all the degenerates & deadbeats that are leaching off of the working class!! When the freebies stop we will have total breakdown, Every city will be a bloodbath!! And won’t that be an ideal time for Islam to snuff out the Infidels, Stay prepared this will happen within the next 4 years for certain,

  • Michael Webb December 30, 2012, 10:01 am

It is very sad that a insane person killed children, however, all this media hype on gun control is stupid. Guns don’t kill, people kill, guns are just a tool. Hammers, knives, automobiles, fire, baseball bates, all can kill, all are useful tools. Automobiles alone, are responsible for over 40,000 deaths a year in the United States alone, many victims are children. Where is the media hype, car control laws, over this issue, which is thousand’s of time more serious then a insane person killing children. We need to clean our government, get rid of the politicians, give real working people a chance to serve our government. A two terms policy for all government employee’s would be a nice start. This would help put an end to their outrageous salaries and benefits that they all receive at United States Taxpayer Expense. We don’t need more government agencies, more gun laws. We need better education. Money spent on education, is better then paying government politicians, “Congress, Representatives”, to make more stupid laws, is money better spent. Real gun safety and use, should be taught is our schools, along with real sex education. Treating these issues like they don’t exists is stupid. Our current educational system doesn’t work, one example, young girls are still having babies, that taxpayers have to pay for. Money spent on education is money better spent. Paying politicians to make stupid laws is a real waste of United States Taxpayer Money. We need to clean our government.

  • Charles December 30, 2012, 7:35 am

Inforce the gun laws that exist!

  • Robert E Meachum December 30, 2012, 3:12 am

    To President Obama
I am sure that you will probably never see this letter MR president.
My name is Robert Meachum , I have three brothers who all went to Vietnam two of whom staid for two terms. I did not go To war witch I have never forgave myself for, not having a chance to go and serve my Country.
My farther retired from the Border patrol , And also served in WW2. So you can see that my family is no stranger to guns. Like most people I had my share of arguments. I never once had an idea pop into my head to shoot or do perm init Damage to another human been. Like most Americans this latest shooting makes me sick. I never did under stand why someone feels they have take so many people with them. To be able to take there om lives. But I have to tell you that in my opinion to out law guns is never going stop random shootings. I wish I new the archer I Know I would not want to be in your shoes. I wanted to let you know for most part I believe in what you are doing, and That I voted for in your 1st And 2nd terms With that said, I have to let know that I am a fern believer in the 2nd Amendment. And I would Like to let you know that sent,s the scare of tactical weapons being band. I whet to large Sporting good store just buy a pistol. And I was Told that there was over 10,000 waiting for there Background checks. So I was told it could take up to a weak before they could even get to my self.note all the tactical weapons were sold out. Even on line its all most in poseable to buy a tactical weapon on line. They are sold out. Or there on auctions That are way over price. So the bottom line is with this latest scare,in stead getting some guns off the street. It forest people to go out and buy one or two hundred thousand more asault weapons. On the street. So maybe we could do more good by upping security in Schools And push for more Big brothers and Sisters to help get our kids on the right path. To more constructive lives. We should also have O tolerances for bullies in Avery School in america. And also have mandatory program for these Kids. So they might have chance to live a normal life. I believe This will have A Far better impact, then any Gun control Could ever do. I truly hope this helped. Thank,s
    Robert Meachum

A school shooting and again they show they care nothing for them infact they are using what happen to them for there own twisted purposes.Laws was already in affect that suppose to keep that from happening and it wasn’t inforced!!! So now instead of them moving in the right direction they go opposite again. If you are to blame for what happen to those kids and you care nothing for them or your own then hand them your very few ways you have to protect them!!! More laws passed will mean more will happen.HISTORY.Less laws and the freedom for us to protect what is ours is the answer.Look at serving God in this country?Look at the past and look at now?America had way more freedom to serve God and protect themselves even as little as 30 yrs ago. Here is an example of how much honest citizens has lost and are scared to protect what is theres. In Ky laws are changed so you can pack your gun concealed but being an honest law abiding citizen you have to go by all these rules and pay.We already had that right so it will be used to control. In Ky we have an open carry law and freedom to serve the living God.Look around when you are in public???Do you see either of these being done???NOW TELL ME THESE LAWS ARE WORKING?

Well, I don’t plan on following any more oppressive gun laws from this government. They are already becoming tyrannical. At what point do we just say enough is enough?? Taxing, laws upon laws upon laws, over spending, oppressive legislation, useless politicians that are only concerned with the election cycle…how much more? And now they want to de-tooth us once again by passing some phony “assault weapons ban”? That would just be a spring board…the next shooting that happens and then the call for disarming the American people could follow…

  • Derek Vincent December 29, 2012, 5:16 am

As a retired law enforcement officer, I can tell you that this proposed legislation will do absolutely NOTHING to increase the safety of anyone. You can heavily tax firearms/ammunition, further restrict their purchase, increase regulation over buyers, ‘ban’ items, increase penalties and a myriad of other things. In the end, it will increase government bureaucracy and cost us a lot of money to enforce and accomplish zilch. In my 21 years of service, I learned that there is really nothing you can do to stop someone whose intent is to hurt or kill you. Face the facts. We are a nation of laws, probably millions of laws. Our society and our prisons are filled with those who choose to disregard them. We have enough laws already.

knee jerk reaction number 3. in 1968 in the brady bill and now congressman and senators try to window dress legislation they really know might get passed or not they dont care, why, the 1902 Dick Act. thats why. It cant be repealed by anybody or congress and they know it. It says and one must read congressional intent, we have the right to bear arms as we are the unorganized milita and we have the right to have any arms we want as many as we want and it is not a matter of what kind of arms we own as long as we can afford them and pay for them. weather it be popular or not. Please befor all the hopla that means nothing everyone go read the Dick Act of 1902 or just go to talkshoe.com/48361. Its all much to do about nothing as reagon would say. Show me an honest politician and I’ll show you a fool who voted for them. Educate yourself.

    To Whom It May Concern,
It would be benifical to put strong enphisis on our borders and our ports where all the illegal guns come in to the U.S. .Not from the law-a bidding stores and gun owners.Unless you do this, you will not have gun control.Your war on drugs got you no where, what makes you think you can have gun control ?.You need to leave the 2nd Amenment alone.and focus on better screening of buyers with mental problems and criminals that sell illegal guns that have been stolen or that enter this country. You are messing with a hornet’s nest.

Hello you will not take my guns PLEASE look at what your doing. Your only picking at the ones who obey the law this will not affect the ones who want to use them illegaly but only open the door so they can do what they like then all you will have is maybe the police to stop them how about harsher punishment for gun crimes and leave the law abiding people alone !!!!!!!!!!!

When are we going to learn to play like the democRATS? First thing we need to do is propose a law that says every household in America has to have an automatic weapon at its disposal. They need to be taught how to use it and have the ammunition furnished by the government. After all the government is owned by us, WE are the government. The Second Amendment is not about hunting unless you consider hunting congressmen who have turned traitor to the United States. They swear to uphold the Constitution and the first thing they do is to start trying to tear it down. Slime like feinstein and reid need to be voted out of office and the easy way is to pass a law that you have to have a picture ID to vote. You need one to cash a check, to drive a car, to buy a house, to get a loan why not to vote?

  • Ben c. Dover December 28, 2012, 8:26 pm

No full auto firearms. 5 days for gun licence to be passed (after being bought to getting). No mental disorders. No criminal record. Good reasons why to need. Ammo limits.

  • Scott Pardales December 28, 2012, 6:27 pm

First let us all remember that the PEOPLE are the Government and the Government is here to serve us not to disarm “The People”.
As a father of four and a twenty four year veteran police officer in CT, I was appalled at the recent shooting at Sandyhook Elementary School in Newtown, CT and felt I needed to voice my opinion on the “Gun Debate”.
History has proven over and over that laws fail to prevent violence or crimes. Prohibition created organized crime in America. The decades old “War on drugs” has been a billion dollar failure, as bad guys will obtain drugs or weapons regardless of the laws. Today over 20,000 gun laws exist in America and all they have done is to punish the law abiding citizens.
The States and cities with the strictest gun laws (California, Washington DC, Chicago to name a few) have the highest murder rates and the States and cities with Right to Carry Laws have the lowest rates of murder and violence.
Such reactionary Laws as the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban accomplish nothing but to restrict the Constitutional Rights guaranteed under the 2nd Amendment. Again history proves you can not legislate morality or behavior.
We have become a nation without a morale compass (Thanks to Hollywood/Computer games) and one can not help but wonder if the total removal of religion (God/Creator/Supreme Being) from our daily lives has created the societal breakdown we are witnessing and that no laws can correct.
I beseech you to support the 2nd Amendment. If any person Democrat or Republican took the time to read what our Founding Fathers said about the importance of the 2nd Amendment and why they created it, there would be no discussion on this topic.
Our Forefathers believed that the 2nd Amendment was only second to Freedom of Speech, because without the 2nd Amendment you would have neither.

    Respectfully

    Scott T. Pardales

For what its worth this is what i sent~
Please do not impose further gun restrictions. As a peace officer i am friends with numerous military and law enforcement. The very people you would need to enforce these changes and we as the majority feel it is a violation of the very intent of the second amendment. You would take away “liberties Teeth” as George Washington would say. This could potentially cause a civil war. That is what so many of us fear most.I would suggest instead mandates requiring gun safes. Training in our schools to detect behavior of mentally disturbed or or potentially dangerous children. Many politicians are talking even possible confiscation of firearms this would be an act of tyranny and treason in the eyes of many honest law abiding citizens including that of military and law enforcement. The wedge this could drive in our nation would be irrecoverable. Please consider this! We need to stop blaming the hammer for what the carpenter did!

I had said before the NRA had come out with Guards that there should be 3 Armed Guards with there back grounds checked before they get the job then the school should have camras and some one watching at all time and a lock down button and a full alert alarm and lights to let them know threw the school there is a problem I am a deer hunter ,rabbit and Squirrel and have freinds that have AR-15 to deer hunt with and Coyotes taking guns away is not going to stop these people from doing the EVIL they do the HIJACKER that did the 911 had plastic Knifes how many did they kill ,Every one in Goverment has Guards and are paid alot of money and benifits to watch for shooters why are you not guarding are kids ,when these things happen its always go after the GUNS so when 911 happen did you go out and stop sales of Plastic knifes if some one goes after my family or breaks into my house I have the right to stop them with a gun and I will they are my life I watch my Daughter Paige Nicole Badger take her last to breaths at Riley Childrens Hospital in Indianapolis on 10-07-2010 she was 16 years old from a virus that attack her heart and she had 14 % of her heart God has his reason but beleave me when I say no Parent should have to bary your child ,and I could not do anything to stop it and that is hard for me cause being Daddy I would have given my life for her in a heart beat ,taking guns or attacking gun with your laws will not stop these evil monsters put a gun in a train guard and he will make a plan

I have emailed, as suggested, however, I believe this is the beginning of the end of individual gun ownership, the 2nd amendment not withstanding.
The question is not if, but when, the nation is disarmed.

As a leader, YOU need to detach yourself from the shock and emotions of these recent tragedies. If you want to act on your emotions, then send a card or money to Newtown, CT. BUT, if you want to make sane public policy, you need to look at facts and numbers dispassionately. Not just 20 kids murdered. You need to look at that against the denominator of the total number of firearms in this country that are NOT used for gun crime. Unfortunately, this includes a enormous amount of data that can not be collected or counted, like: how many people have NOT been murdered? NOT been subjected to home invasion/burglary? NOT been raped? NOT been kidnapped? .. all due to to the presence, presumed presence, or judicious use of firearms. I would bet that in this country, MORE people are killed, harmed, or violated by crime.. due to ALCOHOL. But, a homeless alcoholic man dying on the streets of cirrhotic liver failure had it coming. Never mind that it costs us a million dollars to care for that alcoholic. He had it coming. No sympathy there. No Yahoo front page news story there. No Piers Morgan commentary there. Even if that alcoholic homeless guy commandeered a Newtown, CT school bus and, in a drunken stupor, drove it off a cliff.. we wouldn’t be calling for a ban on alcohol. Oh wait.. we did already, didn’t we? How did that work out? In my area of Orange County, there are hardly any home invasions or burglaries done at night. Why is that? Because we are such an affluent nice area? Low crime rate? NO… they do occur, but typically during the daytime, while people are out of their homes, at work. They don’t occur at night, because people are home and armed. It is well known that about 1 in 2 households in Orange County, CA have firearms. The criminals know this. Only the ridiculously blind politicians do not know this. Yesterday, LA took 2,000 firearms off the streets. These were turned in for a whopping $100 Ralph’s grocery gift card. Boy, you really made LA safer!! Do you really think those weapons are functional? or legal? This defies even the most basic concepts of economics and common sense. My local gun shops, Rifle Gear and Ammo Bros, are totally sold out of weapons. A Colt rifle I was looking at a few weeks ago, had a full-retail price of $1900. That store’s gun wall is bare now. It looks like post-Katrina, with empty shelves, no guns or ammo, everything sold-out. That Colt rifle sold for $2500. Good job President Obama and Senator Feinstein! you both should receive an award as Gun Salespersons of the Year. Since Mr. Obama’s re-election, there’s been massive gun buying and ammo stockpiling. Prices of ammo, especially rifle ammo, have gone up at least 63% (based on my constant search for the lowest price ammunition for my rifles). Full retail ammunition prices have probably gone up even more. I guess you are stimulating at least 1 part of the economy. Personally, I think California has reasonable gun policies. With our modern technology, and computerization of almost all records, there is no reason why there can not be a national, or even worldwide, background check on BOTH firearms buyers and the actual firearm itself. I think CA’s 10-round magazine limit, 10-day DROS clearance/cool-down periods, felony restrictions, etc.. are all also reasonable. I think CA’s requirement to show proof of a gun safe or lock is good, and can even be expanded. I think the best approach in many things in life is the carrot and the stick. Why not have a modest tax credit or rebate on gun safes? At the same time, injury or crime by a minor with an unsecured weapon should have a very harsh penalty and even a ban on future firearm purchases/ownership. Once the emotions and the shock of recent tragedies subsides, I hope you can reassess the situation logically and come up with more reasonable legislation. Please strongly consider the actual cold hard facts, statistics, the numbers.. and the impact, or more likely.. non-impact, of a comprehensive federal ban as proposed by Senator Feinstein. This will do nothing about the over 250-million firearms already in this country, and will only disarm those citizens LEAST likely to ever commit gun crime. Thank you for your service, and time considering my letter.

    Dr. Jay
    California

The thing to understand about our right to own and bear arms is that this is just ONE of our rights granted us in the Constitution, and that all of our rights stand together. Take one away, and we loose all of them eventually.

Freedom to believe in God as we see fit and to practice our religion without government interference, the right to bear arms, and the right to speak out minds, to have our own thoughts about what is right and wrong without government interference; these three stand together as a triad. Take one away and the rest fall.

The framers of the Constitution understood this.

  • Mynickelsworth December 28, 2012, 9:33 am

Some people know all this and also that the administration will not stop with the “assault rifles, and big magazines” he will not quit until he has confiscated every bb gun in the country. All Wanna be dictators fear guns and want them all confiscated.
You say contact the people in Washington who are ‘supposed’ to be representing US but they are more interested in kowtowing to the administration and feathering their own nest and appear to care little about their constituents or USA. They are the ones who gave the Admin. the capability to jails us all and take all our property without recourse.
They have allowed the Admin. to gut the Constitution that they swore to defend and uphold. They have no guts to do anything for fear of retribution by the admin. They will do nothing if every citizen sent a dozen emails and phone calls. Cowards will not fight for anything not even their own necks.
I’ve written, cajoled and begged but they ignore everything but feathers for their nest.

Here is my message to the Wizzard of OZ:
I do not want any type of infringement on my second amendment rights. There are over 300 million guns in this country, the ONLY thing that banning assault rifles and high capacity magazines Will do is reassure that the CRIMINALS are the only people equipped with them. When you ban something you create a BLACK MARKET such as Prohibition, which didn’t work out very well. I think the Justice system needs to really punish people who inflict terrible things, such as killing children IE No life terms on tax payers dollars with the option of seeing their criminal friends, and early discharge. I’m talking about capital punishment… We need to actually do something for the children, not add more paper legislation that an insane criminal obviously doesn’t care about in the first place. Besides someone in this mindset could inflict maximum damage with pipe bombs or some other type of home made device. I really like the idea of armed guards in schools- they are already in 1/3 of schools and have a great track record especially when compared to paper legislation and slow response times. In summary, if there were no assault rifles or high capacity mags on the face of the earth any disturbed individual would have still found the means to kill those twenty children… UNLESS SOMEONE WAS THERE TO STOP HIM.

  • Barry December 28, 2012, 12:19 am

I’m from Canada where we have gun control in place and it hasn’t prevented our criminal element from committing killings everyday. The only people that haven’t the right and means to protect themselves are tax paying law abiding citizens. I think I’d ask myself how restricting assault style rifles would have prevented this man from his objective before giving the government authority to take any action. Here in Canada our legal system works mainly on a catch and release program- where we spend millions of dollars in an effort to catch a criminal and then the judicial system releases them back onto the streets. From what I’ve read the U.S. is working on the same principal. If the American government was serious about protecting it’s youth it would be pushing for the elimination of drug pushers, extreme violent media formats etc. before worrying about restricting the law abiding citizens right to bear arms. Guns have been around for a long time so I would look for other reasons initiating the rash of insanity before making any knee jerk decisions.

More gun laws will not stop people that shouldn’t have guns! There will always be the mentally unstable people that do horrific things! Most of the time the guns were taken from a family member etc…, etc… when horrible things happen with mentally unstable people willing to kill people and themselves! The gun has never been the problem, it’s been the person that is morally, mentally and spiritually bankrupt that have used guns to do sick things! People that are of good moral value and standing in society should be able to own guns for any reason! There needs to be more places for the mentally unstable to get help, whatever is causing that instability in their lives! Jesus is Lord!

Does anyone know of a strong militia located in the northeast? SERIOUS

  • Rudy December 27, 2012, 8:50 pm

This is a copy of a letter I just sent the President
    Mr. President
I address you with all the respect that is due the office you hold. I have been a law abiding American all my life, casting my vote along with others desiring to see our vision for this country to be brought to fruition. I have never spoken out against a president, even when I had a different point of view because I believe that if he was elected to the highest position in the land, he deserved my backing and support. I have taught this to my children and I pray I have been an example.
Today, I regretfully feel I must speak and cannot hold my peace on this issue. The lives lost recently in that school is horrific. I cannot imagine the pain those parent are going through and pray for them that the good Lord will grant them strength and peace. Yet these lives are no less valuable than countless others who die daily due to gun violence. Our country has reached an all-time high in crime, most of which I believe is due to the feelings of helplessness and desperation that is being felt by so many in this country. The feeling of insecurity and worries about what disaster tomorrow will bring.
But taking guns away from law abiding citizens is not the answer. When guns are outlawed only the outlaws will have guns. The 2nd amendment was not created to protect my hunting rights, but rather my rights to bear arms; weather that be a handgun, hunting rifle or assault weapon. I see were full auto guns are designated to the military and only semi-auto for civilians and yet, as an enthusiast, a one who love target shooting I feel deprived at not being able to shoot a full auto weapon just because someone decided to make it so. I obey the law and respect it but do not at heart agree with it. I am unable to purchase a suppressor for my hand guns – so when I go target shooting I have to wear ear protection, even though a suppressor would resolve that. But again because someone said civilians have no use for it, I have to surrender my FREEDOM and do as is told me by the law of the land. Now you propose to do away with semi-auto rifles and larger clips. So once again I have to surrender my FREEDOM and enjoyment because a mentally deranged man committed and ungodly act against the most innocent of children.
I know you have been briefed and are aware of the numbers and the reality that every country that has taken guns away from their citizens has had a spike in violent crimes or eventually produced a dictatorship taking away all the freedoms of its people. I pray neither of these scenarios are your desired goals. I do believe that schools should have armed guards and citizens should be allowed to carry concealed weapons to more places. When you place a No Concealed Weapon allowed decal at a door, all you are doing is letting the bad guy know – hey there won’t be any resistance here. Those decals will never stop a lunatic bent on hurting innocent people. To impose proper training and preparation before being issued a conceal weapon – YES. To require a background check before issuing a weapon – YES. To require that a gun owner qualify at a range – YES; but to restrict ownership and band things? All that is going to accomplish is a higher cost for the product and probably only the bad guy who is willing to pay any cost to get his hands on the weapon will have it and there will be no citizen equally armed to defend themselves against the criminals.
Please rethink your decisions; Americans have given up enough rights.
    Thank you

HAS ANYONE FOLLOWED THE NY WHACKO WHO WAS LET OUT OF PRISON IN 2006 AND JUST RECENTLY KILLED TWO FIREFIGHTERS DOING THEIR JOB. HE SET THE FIRE AND THEN PERCHED HIMSELF ON A HILLSIDE TO ELIMINATE AS MANY AS HE COULD. THIS 62 YEAR OLD MAN WAS IN PRISON FOR MURDERING ONE OF HIS FAMILY MEMBERS WITH A HAMMER. SINCE WE ARE NOW IN THE FINGER-POINTING MODE, LET ME ADD THE FOLLOWING; ANYONE WHO KILLS ANOTHER PERSON AND CHARGED AS SUCH SHOULD HAVE HIS/HER DAY IN COURT. IF FOUND TO BE GUILTY OF THE CHARGE, HAS THE RIGHT TO ONE (1) APPEAL AND IF FOUND GUILTY FOR THE SECOND TIME. HE/SHE SHOULD BE PUT TO DEATH BY WHATEVER MEANS IS ACCEPTABLE AND IN A VERY TIMELY MANNER. NO DEATH ROW INMATE FOR 10-20-25 YEARS. YOU CAN LOOK TO THE PAROLE BOARD ON THIS ONE AND TO WHY HE WAS LET OUT OF PRISON. THE JUDGES NEED TO BE A BIT MORE ASSERTIVE IN THEIR PUNISHMENTS. FAR TOO MANY AND FAR TOO LIBERAL.

    • Jeff December 27, 2012, 8:46 pm

      To All:
I am an NRA Benefactor member, Training Counselor, Firearms Instructor, retired LE, high-power competitor and all-round nice guy. 🙂 Here is the problem in a nutshell: we, as gun owners and Americans have allowed our society to dis-honor firearms. George Washington declared firearms deserved a place of honor along side the Bible in our American way of life. We have allowed firearms to be used as scapegoats for violence. We have allowed firearms to be portrayed in our entertainment media as devices of destruction and death. We have failed to show the other America the positive aspects of firearms as sporting equipment, teaching tools, safety equipment and, yes, as tools to defend one’s life. We need to protest our displeasure at seeing firearms used in films as tools of retribution; as devices of mayhem and total destruction beyond the actual physical damage they really do. Example, how many times have you seen the use of a shotgun with enough force to throw a 200-lb man at least 50 feet? How many times have you seen a handgun fired at a car and the car explodes in a ball of flame? How many times have you seen a shoulder-fired machine gun literally cause a building to collapse? Those are all ridiculously over-stated Hollywood stunts. Yet, the average American knows no difference. Mel Gibson has done more firearms training for most Americans than the 60,000 NRA instructors in this country combined. Yet, we remain silent. I run into self-proclaimed firearms “experts” all the time. All these venues influence the non-gun American more than we realize. It is hard for me to convince people to get training. I advertise, I cajol, I lecture and some do and some don’t. We have campaigns in our schools to teach sex education, fire safety, driver education, don’t talk to strangers, first-aid safety, how to cross the street safely, safety from online predators and child molesters, DARE programs for drug use prevention, electrical hazard safety, sever weather preparedness safety, we teach the Heimlich maneuver even, but we don’t have any comprehensive programs for firearms safety and education unless a volunteer approaches the school board and offers to teach the NRA Eddie Eagle Program or some other structured firearm safety curricula. Consequently, a larger and larger majority of Americans, many emigrating from non-gun countries, don’t understand the importance of the firearm in our constitutional republican form of government. So what is going to happen now is we are going to end up with a compromised legislation where to save our 2nd Amendment rights we will be giving up something. The slaughtering of innocent children is too horrific for most Americans to tolerate. As in the election, we have two Americas: one lives in the drug-and-crime infested urban areas and look to government to control their very lives and the other of us live in small-town, rural America where we enjoy relative freedom and don’t need the government to live. Unfortunately, federal law isn’t selective. Most mass murders of any kind happen in more densely populated areas. Gun control is draconian in most of those places. Crime is also. Go figure. The best we can hope for is to convince Feinstein that she can do what she wants in her state, but don’t make the entire country bow to her lifestyle. John Lott spent 25 years proving that areas of high gun ownership had lower rates of violent crime. That message needs to be kept in front of the American public. Quit, as I’m doing, preaching to the choir and educate the masses.

Must we continue to trot out the same old chestnuts (guns don’t kill people, only criminals will have guns, etc.)? It is as if your grand parents were the last people in your line that had an original thought. The fallacy of the belief that more guns make for a safer America is the belief that only bad people with guns kill innocent people. It is people with guns that kill innocent people using guns. People have mood swings and depressions, flashes of anger and worthiness issues. We have had too many examples of patriotic Postal workers and some of us recognise that Timmy McVeigh was a patriot even as we know that he was very wrong minded. It is not just the bad people that do bad things. As an avid Alaskan hunter and gun collector I am loath to see guns restricted, and yet it is the very issue of magazine size that has prevented me from joining the NRA for 30 years. There is no legitimate need for civilian or police department use of magazines beyond 10 rounds, 5 rds for high caliber rifles. As much as I have enjoyed my .338 Lapua there is very little need for it or the 50 BMG long range launch pads. The price of Ammunition has been self regulating thus far.

Regarding the value of the second amendment for insuring the capacity of civilians to over-throw the democratically appointed government; are you calling for the civilian ownership of Laws rockets, SAM missile batteries? Tanks, landmines? The lowly .22 lr in the hands of a marksman is more effective than an inaccurate AK with a 75 rd drum. You need only review the arms of WWII the MI Garrand did not have the massive volume in an AK to be effective. Review the weapons of the Maquis to know that the hidden and quiet arms are the tools of resistance not high capacity rattle guns.

We need to be promoting responsible gun ownership, that includes securing the guns in our homes to prevent unauthorized usage, marksmanship, hunting and game management, sport and sportsmanship, and supporting our democratic republic and the democratically elected officials, even when we may wish that the majority had voted differently.

As long as the NRA is a supporter of one party and refuses to allow dissent to the most radical pro gun attitude, I cannot be a member.

BOB promised Pelosi, Feinstein and the Brady Bunch that this would happen after he was re-elected…
They have been planning the registration/confescation scheme for the last 4 years.
The bogus study committee is just smoke and mirrors…
They all bad mouthed Wayne LaPierre’s recommendations (even though the president’s kids attend a school with armed security officers and secret service agents, all at our expense)

I would like to go on record saying , We realy don’t need any new law’s on gun’s or new way’s to regesture them either. What we need is to inforce the one’s we already have and prossecute those who commit any vielant crime with a gun , knife , bow & arrow , bat , pipe , club or bare hands , To the fullest exstent of the law . And when they are found giulty beyond any dought , Give them 1 appeal and if it’s the same outcome then let the hangman earn his pay . If our goverment takes away our right to deffend ourselves & our families , Only the bandet’s , theives , drug dealers and generally criminal type’s will be armed and will run rampant over the law abiding member’s of our counrty . PLEASE MR. PRESIDENT , CONGRAS , SUPPEME COURT , Don’t feed our pepole our counrty to the HELL HUOND’S of crime & decay !! Protect our right to live , worship , As we have been promised.

    Dear _________

The solution is not more unarmed victims!

The perpetrators of the recent shooting atrocities were cowards, and obviously not in their right minds. Unfortunately, there will always be criminals. They were criminals. They did not obey laws. One shot at responding firemen! One shot at babies! These were unarmed victims; heroes; innocents.

In both cases, they likely could have inflicted the same violence, had they used single shot weapons on their unarmed victims. The victims were absolutely defenseless.

Please do not take gun rights away from law-abiding-citizens! You will endanger them further. Note: Where gun ownership goes up, the crime rate goes down.

The solution is not more unarmed victims! Unfortunate, but true, the authorities simply cannot protect every citizen. They are rather busy. There are just too many bad-guys out there. They have work to do, and cannot stand in between every criminal and potential victim.

Additionally, over and over again we hear, “The weapons used looked similar to military weapons, so we should ban all those that look like military ones.” The look of the weapon has nothing to do with the crimes committed. Please, do not fall in with the crowd that bases gun bans on the cosmetics of the weapons. To do so reveals something about a person, such as the repulsive inner quality of, “judging a book by its cover,” otherwise known as ignorance/prejudice.

To further disarm law abiding citizens, is to bear some responsibility, for every crime that could be prevented, by a law-abiding-citizen being able to bear arms in self defense!

    Thank you for your time.

We are in for a fight, I have no doubt of it. I am a veteran in the war to protect the right to bear arms and saw the same gun control rhetoric twenty years ago. Although I would encourage people to work through their representatives in Congress, I think that this time it might not be enough and that we may have to resort to more drastic measures in order to stave off the gun grabbers. Be vigilant, and be ready.

I am 77 years old, Still gainfully employed, I have been with the tea party several years, Listened to all the great orators, read there books and helped them to become wealthy, I have finally opened my eyes! and came to admit that all the protests, billboards, petetions, ETC have accomplished absolutely nothing, It is very clear that Obama & his Muslim backers are, Deliberately, Systematically, And very successfully making our country as weak & vulnerable as possible, Sending a petition to Washington will have the same effect as pissing into the wind!! If we working class gun owners don’t soon band together and physically make a stand it will be to late, The Muslims will very soon be moving to take control, Someone once said stupidity is doing the samething over & over & expecting different results!! Our country is in a desperate shape, Bogged down with degenerates & dead weight leaches, That we can no longer support, Wake up American before it is to late, Archie,

I and a lot of my friends who are long time NRA members have discussed this and to be frank we cannot find a valid reason for protecting semi-automatic rifles that hold high (more than 10) capacity magazines. Also, since we have to register our firearms we buy at a FFL with ATF we can’t find a reason that it wouldn’t be proper to do the same at gun shows and through private transactions. While there are some valid uses for semi-automatic weapons, primarily involving hog hunting, it is possible to have special registrations showing need to cover that issue. The other reasons are target shooting at the range, gun looking cool, macho, wanna do what I want, don’t want to have someone telling me what I can’t do, and I hate Obama so anything he wants should be bad.

Saying they are needed to protect me from my government or for 99% of self-defense situations insults my intelligence. To say either just shows that the movement to ban these weapons must be gaining steam.

I’m from the Deep South, have owned and been around guns for over 60 years, am safe and very comfortable with them, and personally own over 20 firearms, including handguns, WWII military weapons, shotguns, and hunting rifles.

The issue is risk reward. The risk of these type weapons being allowed and available even if not intended, to people that would do harm to others and especially innocent children far outweighs what we see as the benefit to having them. All weapons are lethal, but the speed of the carnage and capacity available using these type weapons is unacceptable. Even one child is not worth the value of having these type weapons available for our pleasure.

I have grandchildren and have an obligation to do whatever necessary and reasonable to protect them. To do otherwise or be quiet doesn’t make sense and is not doing what I should.

Therefore, I and my other NRA friends are making our views known to elected official, the media, and other gun owners, but that is that a ban on the sale of semi-automatic rifles that will accept high capacity magazines is the proper action to take. We also believe all weapon sales should be registered with the ATF, Mental Health funding should increase, school protections should be improved, and there should be a legal requirement to keep firearms not in use locked in a safe like device.

I like Guns America, but in this instance disagree with you.

  • Stephen Chesler December 27, 2012, 4:18 pm

As a democrat and an assault rifle owner, I must respectfully disagree with our President’s position. Mass killings, which are rare, have been associated to assault weapons. Obviously, if there were no assault weapons available and no high capacity magazines the numbers of casualties in any mass shooting would likely decline. Unfortunately, there are 3 million assault weapons now existent in civilian hands, thus, banning future sales of these weapons will only very slowly reduce their availability.
That being said, the persons responsible for almost all of these shootings appear to be mentally impaired. The identification and treatment of potential shooters would be the most effective measure to be taken. Mental health resources must be made available to troubled individuals and their families.
The argument that assault weapons have no use to civilians is not true. Modern assault-type weapons are highly accurate rifles with are used in the sport of target shooting. Many competitions have been established in the United States and some of these competitions occur at military installations such as Camp Perry and Quantico.

This is yet another attempt by the anti-gun, liberal political establishment, aided and abetted by their left-wing national media accomplices, to use a senseless tragedy perpetrated by a deranged individual to advance their misguided political agenda. They are totally shameless, as evidenced by their haste in utilizing the media to trumpet their fallacious “solutions” before the innocent victims were even buried. And they are not shy about distorting reality and the facts to advance their aims.

This media frenzy targets citizens who are not knowledgeable about, or simply have no interest in, firearms, hunting, personal defense, the shooting sports, etc. . These people are being inundated with non-stop misleading labels, assertions and claims, including some blatant falsehoods, which the media present as “facts”. “If you tell a big enough lie often enough, sooner or later it becomes accepted as truth.” At least by the uninformed, and this is what’s happening in a large segment of our society.

I believe that the antidote to this political/media smear campaign is to present factual information to the non-shooting public with the same zeal, fervor, and frequency exhibited by the misleading media. People need to realize:

This tragedy, and others which have occurred in recent years, have been perpetrated by individuals with mental issues. (In non-p.c. terms, crazy people.) Mentally unhinged people do things which are incomprehensible to normal, sane folks. The means they use to commit their heinous acts are not the principal problem – there are myriad means by which they can wreak havoc on innocent victims, including, but not limited to, motor vehicles, fire, explosives ( Tim McVey used fuel oil and fertilizer to kill hundreds. There was no proposal to ban either item.) and many others. Commonly available and lawfully used items are not the issue. The focus belongs on the untreated mentally impaired individuals, largely a result the shameful lack of mental health diagnostic and treatment facilities in this, one of the wealthiest nations in the world. As one example, if the two billion dollars spent to put an ATV on Mars had been devoted to mental health care instead, perhaps some , if not all, of these tragedies might have been avoided. The media conveniently downplay this aspect.

Some other factual information which needs to be presented to the uninformed public by organizations like the NRA, and by each and every hunter, gun owner, and shooting sports enthusiast:

Civilian AR-type rifles are NOT “Only used to kill people.” They are widely used in several types of legal hunting, i.e. Deer, Small Game, varmints. (I’m sick and tired of reading and hearing “These weapons have no hunting purpose” in the national media. The lie must be exposed.) They are also very accurate target rifles, when configured for that purpose. AR’s are also popular home defense choices. In short, they are used for the same purposes as other types of rifles. Contrary to another blatant media lie, they are NOT the same weapons used by our military, even though they may bear some physical resemblance to some military arms. Ordinary citizens need to know this.

Legally owned firearms of all types, including AR-style rifles, are used to save lives and prevent serious personal injury COUNTLESS TIMES EACH DAY across this nation. The NRA shares a number of these stories with their members on a regular basis, which is fine. But the general public is totally ignorant of this fact – and they need to be educated about the incredible amount of safety and protection (not to mention peace of mind) that lawful firearms ownership provides. (These facts will NEVER be presented by the media.) I believe that this is THE most powerful argument against the specious “Guns are only used to kill people” lie propounded by the anti-gun establishment.

Magazine capacity limitations would be no more effective in preventing insane acts using firearms than reducing gasoline tank capacities would be in reducing excessive speed, reckless driving, and DUI fatalities involving motor vehicles. The public needs to understand this on a level with which they can identify.

Truth and factual information must be made available to the American people with the same determination shown by the left-wing liberal, anti-gun establishment and their media lackeys. Given common sense, factual data, the non-shooting public will be more likely to urge their elected representatives to defeat questionable, flawed, and unnecessary legislation purporting to protect them.

  • Leon December 27, 2012, 3:17 pm

I am a gun owner and have been for 60 years. I am careful with my guns and take responsibility for their use. I am willing to write my representatives and support our second amendment rights. I would like to ask you to stop using the “nut job” or other references like it on those who you see disagreeing with you – that will not help in the discussion and development of good plans to deal with gun violence. Everyone who owns a gun or sells guns or manufactures guns needs to start taking personal responsibility for their actions with guns. “Bad” guys get guns from us by stealing, buying illegally or as gifts from us. So pay attention and do your part to protect our rights to own guns – the right comes with a big RESPONSIBILITY because kids should not be shot by a gun one of us let a “bad” guy get.

  • Jack December 27, 2012, 2:22 pm

This website and the commenters here are no longer providing a reasonable discussion. As a lifelong gun owner, sportsman, past NRA member, father and voter, it’s clear to me that this topic needs reasonable people looking for reasonable solutions. The U.S. Constitution in general and the second amendment in particular never envisioned a nation of 400 million people in the year 2013 with the dynamics and challenges that the world faces. Interpreting a right to bear arms as constitutionally mandated for the irresponsible, mentally ill, schizophrenic and paranoid is not reasonable. Did the authors and ratifiers of the Second Amendment intend guaranteed ownership of high-capacity, high-caliber, military and concealable weapons of mass annihilation? How much difference is there really in the rants from some of the paranoid zealots here and the paranoid rants of a Jared Loughner, Timothy McVeigh or Dylan Klebold?

  • Ivan December 27, 2012, 1:03 pm

Here is my response to Mr. Obama, my Congressman and Senators:
    Defending our Children.

Individuals who have attacked schools and killed children have all been, by definition, mentally deranged. Mentally deranged people and criminals clearly pay no attention to legislation forbidding them to own guns and have no difficulty obtaining weapons, despite many existing laws intended to prevent them doing so. The sheer number of guns already in existence makes it impossible to keep them out of the hands of criminals and the mentally deranged.

Any area designated as ‘gun free’ simply delineates a space where law-abiding gun owners are prevented from taking guns. It also advertises to any would-be attacker that he will be free to kill at leisure without return fire.

Since there are certainly many mentally deranged people in the world, it follows that we will most assuredly see more attacks on schools and other helpless targets.

No amount of legislation limiting the type of gun, ammunition or capacity of magazine that can be purchased by law-abiding citizens will make any measurable difference to the facts stated above, either immediately or in the foreseeable future.

If we truly wish to protect our children (rather than use the recent tragedy as an excuse to pursue a political agenda or pander to uninformed public hysteria) then we must proactively protect them in the same way we protect any valuable asset – by providing an effective defense against an armed attacker.

It should be obvious that the only way to stop an armed madman is an armed defender.

However, there is no provision in the Constitution of the United States for federal legislation to address this situation. It is clearly the responsibility of the various States and The People to protect their children as they see fit. Each state, town and school administration should be free to make its own decisions on how to best protect its own children.

Any legislation passed by the Federal Government in response to the recent tragedy which infringes on the right of the people to keep and bear arms will not only be ineffective it will also be unconstitutional.

  • Gerry December 27, 2012, 12:51 pm

Come on people, get real! We cannot march on Washington all locked and loaded. That would only give them a chance to try (and I do mean try) to round us up and collectively take away not only our guns but our rights to them in one field swoop. And I am positive that there would be bloodshed on both sides, mainly ours.
The whole thing hinges around one idea and one idea only. They do not simply want our assault type weapons and large capacity clips: no, they want the whole enchilada, every and ALL types of guns we own to include BB guns and air rifles if a all possible. They want, no they NEED us as defenseless as they can possibly get us to be able to erode our Constitution, Bill of Rights and every freedom and RIGHT we now enjoy. Remember to always look deeper, read farther to discover the true meaning and goal(s) of their agenda(s)….

  • Joseph December 27, 2012, 12:49 pm

Legislation does nothing to dissuade people from committing crimes, also in some cases normal people become criminals because the laws are unclear or even unknown. New laws are not required not even as a band-aid to make some people feel better. Education, reduction of some laws, tighter enforcement of some current laws, dismantling of the BATFE since they cause more problem the fix and when they are involved Americans die, and a stronger punishment for crimes, plus a Mental Health system that is nation wide and is accessible by everyone. A way that can alleviate our problems with prison crowding is to bring back capital punishment. Execute the sentences for those on death row, convert life in prison to capital punishment, and remove the multiple sentences that would have a person in jail for more then 90 years to capital punishment. This feel good, wrist slap, don’t punish children/adults is BS and as we can see the human animal doesn’t respond or learn from it. Who cares what western Europe thinks on capital punishment, they are in the end messed up worst then we are in almost every way. The world as a whole uses capital punishment for even some crimes we would consider minor, also, most countries use capital punishment for drug dealers/runners etc…, and gun runners and illegal gun sales. I own firearms, I have been around them most of my life, I served in the military for over 14 years, and am a firm believer that where there are a large number of people who own guns there is less crime. Countries that use capital punishment don’t normally have the problem with crime, and the better education eliminates fear, fear of guns and fear from crime. Utopia only exists in the minds of people, it doesn’t exist in the real world. The president said we are going to have to make the hard choices, well their are some of the hard choices that need to be made. Otherwise all that will come of this is the encroachment on our rights as Americans and as humans, rights from birth, not from a government. I will have to hang my head in shame if these choices are not made or even considered because of the politically correct card so many zealots use, be a shame of being an american and start to rethink if I wasted 14 years of my life defending the constitution foreign and domestic. The same oath that everyone makes that joins the service, officer or enlisted, and an oath that the congressman and president make before taking office. To DEFEND the Constitution from Enemies foreign and Domestic, not their ideals, dreams, wants, or wishes…

  • Dale Rogers December 27, 2012, 12:43 pm

    Dear Mr. President,

Please don’t make any more gun laws. We need to enforce the laws we already have, and support treatment of the mentally ill. It is shameful that we turn our backs on them, and don’t care for them.

    God Bless You,
    Dale

I live in Newtown,Ct for over 43 yrs.,and I an over 68 yrs. old. I see this as a knee-jerk and political ploy by politicians and a unresearched issue by anti gun people that do not want to address the mental health issue and violent video games.

  • Robyn Fuller December 27, 2012, 12:37 pm

When you read the comments on this website, you come to understand why so many people in this country are for assault weapons bans. I am a sport shooter, and own many firearms, and I think a lot of you people sound like crazies. You talk about darkness, about “regimes”, about marching on the capital with your weapons in your hand, by your side, whatever, and you think the rest of the country is going to be with you. I am very liberal, a female sport shooter, and the wife of a retired Special Forces officer who served 42+ years in the active and reserve forces of our nation, who is also very progressive. Yet, I read comments in this section calling us “liberal fools” and “misguided liberals.” Apparently only firearms owners who fit the politics of the posters to this blog are welcome as fellow supporters of firearms ownership. I was asked to sign a petition because I am a female gun owner, sport shooter and marksmanship hobbist. Why should I? Right now, the people running this blog cynically want support from anybody. When this crisis blows over, they will resume bashing everyone who does not subscribe to far right wing/conspiracy theory ideas.

  • Wreck December 27, 2012, 12:27 pm

If Americans feel the urge to turn in their guns in response to the Newtown shootings, they should donate them to the Palestinians. Then they would be put to MUCH better use than simply melting them down. If you want a good reason for doing that, watch the 2012 video “ROADMAP TO APARTHEID”.

  • linc December 27, 2012, 12:20 pm

Criminals put finger in trigger and pull and kill people… but the guns are not kill peope !!!!! DO NOT BAN OUR AND PEOPLE’S 2nd amendment… the assault weapon is more fun at outside range than killing people.

Stop attacking people like Drudge and Alex Jones. You may not entirely agree with either one of them but they are on our side. Even it Jones is only right 25% of the time it is still horrifying where we, as a country, are headed (he’s correct much more than that though). Drudge could link to more news by the GOA and other gun-rights organizations and movements but he has done MUCH more than any of the MSM have. Please stop alienating those who are on the right side of this debate just because you may not agree with all of their arguments. The left has not problem aligning support for a cause no matter where it comes from and they are winning! Time to grow up and keep an open mind.

  • Toto December 27, 2012, 11:36 am

Alex Jones may seem like a “crackpot” because what he says is so different from the official narrative we have been conditioned to believe. However, everything Alex says is factually true and verifiable. Let me repeat that:

EVERYTHING ALEX JONES ASSERTS IS FACTUALLY TRUE AND OBJECTIVELY VERIFIABLE. If you had taken the time to look up the evidence, even once, you would know this to be true.

What Alex Jones is, and most modern “conservatives” are not, is totally uncompromising. That is what makes you think that he is extreme. He never gives in, because he realizes that compromising with gun grabbers, like the NRA does, is what got us into this mess in the first place.

    • Administrator December 27, 2012, 6:27 pm

Our Constitution was written in the past, for today and for all posterity. I feel that we must protect the Second Ammendment now, for the present, but especially for future generations. You and the President are correct that WE MUST MAKE OUR VOICES HEARD THROUGH OUR REPRESENTATIVES AND SENATORS.
    Thank you,

This regime does just about everything shady to darkness to take America down! Only a liberal fool would see it different. Love my country, love my founding fathers and truly love the Greatest Nation on Earth, America! The American Constitution is to live by and die by if necessary. I took the oath to defend my country with the military many years ago. That oath is deep in my soul and is not to be broken-every. America is forever!

  • Dave Coffield December 27, 2012, 11:08 am

Firearms aren’t the problem, just an easy target. Those whom the mental health system failed would certainly find bathtub recipies to poison drinking supplies or other alternate means to carry out an agenda. Firearms are too divisive to come to a national consensus and the national leaders know it. This delays action on the real problem and the national leaders know that, too.

Why do you think various sectors of the Gov’t are buying up all the ‘special ammo’ such as 40 cal. hollowpoints, high powered rifle calibers and yes, assault calibers, too. Are they going target shooting? I think not!! In my opinion, they’re arming for mass revolt or rebellion against the gov’t itself. Also, the term ‘assault weapon’ in and of itself is misleading to most who don’t know firearms, and when a well know celeb appeared on one of the mainstream media talk shows and said, with animated gestures showing him waving back and forth as if shooting an ‘automatic’ weapon, “and stood there “SPRAYING BULLETS” and killing as he went through the room. Now, that is totally incorrect as these guns aren’t ‘fully automatic’ and one needs special license from BATF, etc. to own one. This is the whole misconception of the movement to ban these ‘assault weapon’ type firearms. As for High Cap mags, capacity of ten, twenty, thirty? If one is proficient enough with the weapon, reloading a ten cap mag is as easlly done as sliding the bolt back and loading another round into a bolt action rifle, so what’s the point? I pray for those families who lost a child, or in some cases more than one, and those heroes who helped save the lives of many more. There has to be a comprehensive way to deal with those mentally ill and who pose a danger to society without stepping on the rights of the innocent and law abiding citizens of this country.

  • Rodney December 27, 2012, 10:34 am

I have read many of the posts on this and other pro 2nd amendment sites.
Unfortunately some of what I read is playing into the hands of the misguided liberals that what to control every aspect of our lives. I know it feels good to rant and get things off your chest, I do the same but not where I can be quoted out of context. You know that is the only way you will quoted don’t you? I hope we will all think before we rant.
I have contacted my representatives I did that before posting here, I hope all of the posters have don’t the same, we need to let the persons representing us know we a not only watching but have long memories when it comes to reelections.
I am going to post what I sent to the white house, it is short and cordial.
This is not perfect nor an example you should use but maybe someone can get an idea from it.

    “Sir,
First thank you for your service to our country during this trying times.

Trying to stop mad men by restricting one tool (a gun) does not work. Case in point; even in China with no personal gun ownership, they have seen mass murderers against school children with knives and other edged weapons in recent months.

I and others in my family think the proposed requirement that all guns go thru an FFL to be transferred is also a very bad idea. The thought that the guns I own can’t be given to my heirs without government approval and unnecessary red tape and costs is very upsetting to me. Can we as citizens own anything at all, or are our property and rights subject to political whims?

We need cool heads and not knee jerk reactions during this time, blaming an inanimate object and glossing over the evil and insanity behind the acts will never save lives in the long run.
It will however only reduce my ability to protect my family’s lives and our property.
I was trained in the use of these rifles in my time in the service and am a safe and lawful user of these items in question. I believe education is better than restriction, didn’t we as a country learn anything from prohibition? I hope you are a man that looks at the lessons of history and refuses to repeat the mistakes of the past.

    Thank You for your consideration,”

  • TIGERHD December 27, 2012, 10:32 am

Well,I do not think Obama is wanting to realize what we are saying. Yes,he is talking about the mentally ill,and the differences between law-abiding and criminals. However,he STILL uses that term-“military-style assault rifle” when in fact very few of those are in ANYONE’S civilian hands to speak of,and an AR-15 is most definitely NOT an assault rifle.Again,he is using a lot of flowery language to appease your senses….but I do not trust him one iota.On other posts,I see where the counts are skewed in the anti’s favor as in any counts that are done by the government…..the government has made it so that they are not afraid of the people anymore and dumbed down most of the people so they just follow along and do not use what God gave them to begin with…their brain.People do not want to think anymore beyond what involves them. The future of this great country is in dire need of patriots to stand for our Constitution and our God-given rights.

    Ammunitiion Seizure/Ban

We are lining up to be counted about our 2d Admmendment rights to possess firearms – a constitutionally protected right. It will not take long, if not already under consideration by VP Biden & company, to ban the possession and use of any (all ??) loaded ammunition; ammunition components (eg: gun powder propellant, bullet or firearm projectile, or means to produce or assemble ammunition). We need to devise strategies to be able to defeat any schemes in this area, as ammunition etc. is most not explicitly constitutiionally protected and therefore a strong area for these “gun contol” zealots to attack.

After many years of study which you evidently haven’t put in I’ve come to understand, support and stand with people you lable as “crackpots” like Matt Drudge and Alex Jones. Our government should be taking a real hard look not only at the mental health issues in this country but also the Films and videos put out by all the Holywood actors, writers and producers, and while your at it lets audit all their books to see just how much taxes they are not paying and how many out of country and offshore accounts they have! I am willing to bet that they have not been paying their fair share for a very long time and our politicians know it but look the other way. If they would pay what they should this country would have a great deal more revenue to bolster mental health care in this country. GUNS DO NOT KILL PEOPLE-PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE!

  • Trey December 27, 2012, 9:32 am

I’m finished with guns america now that I’ve seen this story!!!! When I first saw there stupid groveling at the presidents feet petition I thought how pathetic, now calling alex jones a crackpot for wanting to remove a tory red coat ( who’s openly trying to destroy the second amendment) from my country. As of today his petition has over 25,000 signatures but don’t tell your readers that fact. You here at guns america may want to see our government through rose colored glasses, but me like alex know that government’s around the world over the past 200 years are responsible for so many deaths that they don’t even know the exact number between the communist and fascists its not disputed that its well over 100 million, counting the wars and lost life there probably over 200 now. What makes us special, the constitutional restraints on government and the second amendment! The president is a servant not a dictator so stop licking his boot strap and grow a pair guns america.

    • Administrator December 27, 2012, 9:41 am

Boo hoo our petition want linked by drudge, maybe if there was substance other than please master let us slaves have a right to defend ourselves you may have been linked. Your the one name calling here, sounds like your agreement is full of hot air like piers morgan, I heard him resort to name calling the guy from gunowners.org I guess you have something in common with piers. No substance perhaps.

  • Chris L December 27, 2012, 9:23 am

On 9/11/01 we suffered one of the biggest trageties this country has seen brought on by a few men with sharpened plastic knives, not guns. Our governments solution to that, arm some of the people on the flights. Not disarm them. If we as law abiding gun owners should have our right to protect ourselves taken away, then the secret service should be abolished as the president wont need the protection of multiple armed people to keep him safe. Cause we all know that the criminals will abide by these new laws too right. The government should be looking at ways to try to stop those people that are enacting these troublesome deeds, not penalizing those that obey the laws and are just trying to enjoy the sports of hunting and target shooting, and of course defending our families and possessions.

  • D. H. Williams December 27, 2012, 9:16 am

Asking Obama and the Washington gun-grabbers to save our Second Ammendments is comparable to asking a pack of wolves to save the chickens. The only thing that is going to save the Second Ammendment and our guns is the Second Ammendment and our guns period!

I just contacted both my Senators and my Congressman to protest any new gun control laws. I told them punishing those of us who are responsible gun owners is not the right thing to do, we did nothing wrong. We need more severe punishments for those who commit this type of crime and those who facilitate them, not more Second Amendment restrictions. Restricting responsible gun owners who do not commit crimes with their guns would be like telling every American they can no longer drive their cars because drunk drivers kill people. I hope it helps, but I have to say I’ve become disillusioned with the political process and am not sure we can stop the liberal media from cramming this down our throats. I hope I’m wrong… for all of our sakes, I hope I’m wrong.

  • Jeffrey Queen December 27, 2012, 8:49 am

I sent the following letter to the President with copies to Vice President Biden, my US senators, my Representative, my Governor, the NRA and the NSSF.

    President Barack Obama
    The White House
    1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
    Washington, DC 20500

    Dear President Obama:
It is with a heavy heart that I reflect on the senseless and unnecessary deaths of the schoolchildren and their teachers in Newtown, CT. It was the ultimate act of cowardice and malice. The depravity of the human mind truly knows no bounds. This was the act of a deranged malefactor who felt that his actions would have no consequences and that he would just “re-spawn” after shooting himself. The unfortunate fact is: he is not alone.

While I live many miles away, I have a connection to those in Newtown in several ways. First, though my wife and I have no children of our own, she volunteers at a local school to work with kindergarten students. She considers all of them her babies. She loves them and praises them, but she also corrects them when their behavior is inappropriate or potentially injurious to themselves or others. She would do anything to protect them as if they were her own, even if she had to use deadly force. For you see, Mr. President, she is a skilled and trained firearm owner and carrier. But alas, she is prohibited by our laws from having a firearm on school property. So even if the unthinkable happened and another incident occurred similar in nature to that which happened at Sandy Hook Elementary, she nor anyone of the other teachers or administrators have the capacity to defend their students from any manner of stupidity or hatred. Do you think it was an accident that this coward chose to attack unarmed schoolchildren in a location devoid of armed citizens? I don’t think so.

Secondly, I have devoted my own personal professional life to caring for sick children. I initially trained as a pediatrician and further trained as an anesthesiologist. So, I care for children in the operating room when they very vulnerable. They are without their parents, scared, anxious, worried and helpless. Over the last 25 years I have become pretty good at allaying these concerns while they are still conscious. Once anesthetized, their life is truly in my hands. They and their parents have entrusted me with protecting them from medical harm and seeing to their needs. I would do anything within my power to see that their lives are defended, including use of deadly force. Like my wife, I am skilled and trained in the use of firearms. Again, as with my wife, I am prohibited from carrying a firearm on hospital property. Unlike her school, at least my hospital has armed security guards. On the other hand, they cannot be everywhere and there could be a lot of carnage before they arrived.

Thirdly, I am a member of the National Sports Shooting Foundation whose motto is “Promote. Protect. Preserve.” The irony is not lost in that their headquarters is in Newtown. Notice that it is not their intention to teach how to maim, kill, destroy or attack other citizens. It is to promote safety and proper care and use of a firearm; to protect the right of the citizens of this country to keep and bear arms to use in our own personal protection against evil (even if, and maybe, especially if, that evil is manifested as a government) as provided by the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America and most recently upheld by the United States Court of Appeals in Illinois; and, to preserve the heritage of firearms in history. There is not a single member of the foundation who would condone or encourage the action taken at Sandy Hook Elementary.

You asked a very important and poignant question when you asked, “Are we doing all we can to protect our children?” While the question was rhetorical, I am sure you meant for us as citizens of the United States of America to ponder on it and search deep within ourselves for not only the answer to your question but for solutions. In my professional world, it is a poor surgeon who blames his tools. In other words, it is not the tools that are the cause of the problem, but the operator who lacks the skills or ability to perform the task at hand. Likewise, it is equally folly to blame the guns used in this malevolent attack. It is the person behind them. Prohibiting ownership of all or certain types of firearms will not solve the problem. It certainly has not worked to keep illicit drugs out of schools or off of the streets. Making something illegal does not prohibit someone who wants that forbidden item from obtaining it or using a substitute. Prohibition did not stop the use of alcohol. It created an underworld of violence-filled crime. Prohibition made the criminals wealthy and kept alcohol available to those who wanted it and could pay for it. If someone with criminal intent wants an illegal substance, be it pharmaceuticals or firearms, they will find a way to get it or they will find a satisfactory substitute. The human brain is devoid of boundaries when it comes to the evil it can conjure up. Simply prohibiting some thing or action will not stop the intended evil.

This evil has been allowed to seep into our culture through the very outlets which have supported your campaigns for election, namely the entertainment industry. The use of gratuitous and gory violence in movies, television programming (interesting choice of words), video games and the like glorify meanness and brutality. They have depersonalized the effect of violence and anesthetized the viewers and players from the moral and ethical constructs which used to bind our society together. Nonetheless, the blame does not rest solely on their shoulders. The destruction of the family unit with the prevalence of divorce, adultery and the sanctification of homosexuality have added to the numbing of the minds to the moral law given to us by God. The pursuit of money and all the things that it can buy have replaced the pursuit of God and all of His glory (which can provide us with the basis to know right from wrong). Children are not taught that there are consequences to their actions. Their parents come to their rescue and fix the issue. Or, worse yet, the government steps in and provides services and support for able-bodied persons. Children are taught that no one ever loses and that no one is more capable than someone else, for they all get trophies for fear of damaging their egos and pride (the very things which have been allowed to run amok and wreak havoc without being tethered to morality). Children are not taught limits or given rules to abide by. Say what you will, but I see this every single day in my practice. It is the rare child who has manners and is cognizant of others and their place. In fact, the most common procedure for which I provide anesthesia is dental restorations, crowns and extractions: a totally preventable disease, that has at its roots the inability of the parent to make their child brush their teeth because they don’t want to devote the time it takes to be a parent or they don’t want to deal with the temper tantrum that will ensue. All of this adds up to inappropriate or inadequate child-rearing that has resulted from a promiscuous society that has lost its bearing toward God.

While the slaughter of innocent children that occurred in Newtown is reprehensible and abominable, during that same time frame about 150 other children were murdered and cast off as garbage. Why was there no call for abolishment of the devices used to perpetuate this heinous act upon our society? Why is there no outrage? Why aren’t the flags flown at half-mast? Oh, I forgot, it’s a woman’s right to ask someone to kill her baby. It is socially acceptable to dispense with a life that is not needed or wanted. This type of double-standard adds to the confusion of developing minds. It boggles my mind that our country can rightfully be angered at the atrocity that occurred at the school in Newtown, but less than 10 miles away in Danbury, the four abortion clinics (combined) likely kill that many babies every day of the year mostly because of convenience, not for health reasons or incest or rape. It is just too inconvenient to raise a child because it would interfere with work or play or life in general. It is just too much to ask a woman to abstain from sex or to use a proven method of birth control. Yet, if this were firearm related, society would not hesitate to ban this weapon or that ammunition. The logic escapes me.

Further, nearly ten times the number of children that were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary will die in alcohol-related traffic accidents this year (less than 14 years old). Yet, no one is after the alcohol as the culprit. No one is crying out to eliminate alcohol or reduce the volume you can buy. Sure, there are laws that prohibit alcohol consumption and driving but it does not prevent the unnecessary loss of innocent lives. To take the argument further, why isn’t someone clamoring to eliminate vehicles or reduce their size? After all, it is the vehicle that killed someone. My point is that it is people who are the problem, not the vehicles. Alcohol is a drug and it should be treated as such, much the same way we monitor the purchase of pseudoephedrine (which is used to make methamphetamine, another example of how low we can go). Until American society can right itself and steer toward God, we will continue to spiral into depths of iniquity heretofore unknown.

Mr. President, I urge you to think about your response to the events in Newtown. I understand the need and desire to act, to do something concrete; however, the medicine needed for this cure is not the Band-Aid® that is promoted by you and your colleagues. Rather, it is a complicated regimen of vaccines, medications and surgical operations that will take time to see the complete healing. Similarly, those who work with computers have an acronym: GIGO, i.e. garbage in, garbage out. If we continue to program ourselves with the garbage we currently do, we will continue to get the garbage back. It is not the hardware that is the problem. The hardware only does what the software tells it to do. Consequently, it is not the firearm that is evil, it is us. As Pogo stated years ago, “We have met the enemy and he is us.” Only by changing our ways by refocusing on God do we have a chance of saving our country and its society. Albert Einstein said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. We have prohibited alcohol and that did not work; we still prohibit many drugs and that is not working. We continue to allow our children access to audio and visual material that is not suitable for adults much less children; we allow them to dictate to the parents rather than the other way around; thus, we have the society we have today. Let’s not blame the gun for the murdering those children nor should we blame the spoon for making us fat. Let’s put the blame where it belongs, on us. We allowed this to happen. We have produced a society of mediocre misfits because we were afraid we would damage their fragile psyches. Let’s take a stand. Be firm. Have rules. Forbid stupidity. Punish miscreants. Disallow laziness. Promote health, mental and physical. Refuse to stoop to the level of acceptability and demand excellence. Be not merely competent but adept. Accept failure as a learning process and try again. Do not be bullied by special interests that only have their interest at heart but think they can prey on us for their gain. Do the right thing. Pray to God. Accept His blessings and be grateful. Be humble but not timid. Be caring and giving. Think of others. Be compassionate but not weak. Now is the time to act. You have the whole country’s attention.

    Sincerely,

    • Amanda December 27, 2012, 12:09 pm

Very well said Dr. Queen. I only hope the pres actually gets to read it, in its entirety.

  • Bruce McNeely December 27, 2012, 8:48 am

This is the umpteenth time I have signed a petition, or wrote the White House, or Congress, or all the other people who seem to be in control of my life. I am tired of it. I wrote hundreds of times during the Clinton nightmare….and the Brady Bill passed anyway. We need a way to stop these attacks on the 2nd Amendment ONCE AND FOR ALL.
I am not giving up my guns….

    • Administrator December 27, 2012, 9:38 am

Well if you remember, W. had a pro-gun house and senate, and what did he do? We are on our own.

  • JT December 27, 2012, 8:26 am

What this government needs to be reminded of – is that they work for us – the law abiding citizens. Myself – being the untrusting individual that I am, believe that there is an agenda – You can’t have a police state – with an armed populace! ….Just saying… Oh – and by the way – when you guys want to march – let me know!!

  • Survival Doc December 27, 2012, 8:22 am

You referred to one of the biggest supporters of our gun rights as a “Crack Pot.” I’m talking about radio show host Alex Jones who has millions of listeners each day. If you are really interested in helping our cause you wouldn’t deride your allies in this war for our gun rights. I for one have lost all respect for you and will no longer have anything to do with gunsamerica.com again.

    • Administrator December 27, 2012, 9:37 am

Both he and Drudge should have suppported our petition, which garnered more signatures in its first day than his crackpot petition did after two days, linked directly from Drudge, which gets millions of people per day. Does that sound like a snow job to you Doc? Sounds like one to us. Alex Jones is the turd in the punchbowl of 2nd Amendment freedom.

  • Dave December 27, 2012, 7:57 am

I’m in. I signed the original petition, followed up (before I even read this), and now have written my three legislators. Go, go, go!

  • Mike December 27, 2012, 7:53 am

I did not fill out the petition because we no longer have a representative government. It would be an exercise in futility to fill it out. The Islamic and chief is anti-American! His goal is to destroy this country. I am worried that the slime balls in the Senate WILL ratify the U.N. Small Arms Treaty in March. Then B.O. will blame it on them. Four more years of this clown has sealed the fate of this once great country!

  • larryincadiz December 27, 2012, 7:53 am

I too could not sign the petition, don’t you find it odd that not one mention by the media or legislators about “fast and furious” has come to light!

  • William December 27, 2012, 7:49 am

Here is what I sent my one of my senators and my state rep. I sent a similar msg to my other senator as well.

    Dear Senator Rubio,

I writing you today(and have sent a similar email to Senator Nelson) requesting that you oppose any upcoming legislation that bans firearms of any sort as well as their associated peripherals. Like many I was extremely upset and shaken by the horrible tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary, especially since my daughter is still in elementary school. Unlike some though I do not believe that a ban on “assault style” firearms and high capacity magazines is the answer nor any other knee jerk reaction.
If you look at countries like the UK and Australia you can see that after they enacted bans on firearms that 1)violent crime did not decrease and 2) the ban only affected law abiding citizens and not criminals. While Australia did show a slight decrease in gun deaths, that number was replaced by increases in deaths from stabbings, arson, bombs and other means.
Now if you look at our own country, statistics show that in cities and states where they have the most restrictive guns laws and least number of citizens owning guns they still have high rates of violent crime(which usually increased after those laws were enacted). If on the other hand you look at states with the least restrictive gun laws and high ownership of firearms you see much lower rates of violent crime. It seems to me to be a proven fact that criminals and the mentally ill want soft targets. With the exception of the Shooting in AZ where Gabby Giffords was shot along with some of her constituents, all mass shootings over the last 40 or so years have been in so called “gun free” zones.
Now I also believe that our Founding Fathers did not put the second amendment in the Bill of Rights for hunting, sport, or recreational shooting. They put it there so that we, the American citizens, can protect our own lives, protect our property and if need be protect our nation. Many people like to argue that they were talking about muskets and not firearms of the caliber that we have today but if you research history you will find that most men that joined the militia not only brought their own rifles but those rifles were of a better grade and caliber than what the military had at the time.
So as a citizen, veteran, and voter of the great state of Florida and of the Republic of the Unites States of America I beseech you to vote against and oppose any legislation that aims to remove or reduce our second amendment rights and any legislation that attacks any rights we have under the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
Thank you for your time and thank you for serving as part of the voice for Florida’s Citizens in the Nations Capital.

    Sincerely,

    William ******

  • Ice December 27, 2012, 7:45 am

I went to buy my daughter a “pink” BB gun for Christmas and was told by the checkout clerk that the state of Ohio demanded an Ohio driver’s license prior to purchase. I asked her, if she was kidding since it was only a BB gun and she said, “definitely not and in fact, Ohio demands a driver’s license even for a sling shot!” The lady then recorded my driver’s license number while I asked her, if an ID was required for the purchase of a bag of rocks or a baseball bat, because it would be so much easier to kill someone with those items vs. a sling shot! She then said it was “Our government at work for you” and I said, “No, it was our government in control of us!” If you give the government one single inch of control, they will take not a mile but many many miles. I love kids and was totally upset over the death of those children and teachers in Newtown. I would gladly give up every weapon I own, freely, if I truly believed it would have prevented any one of their deaths. But we all know, any criminal, especially a murderer or mentally deranged person can find other alternatives to use as weapons. A gun ban would not prevent Maltov cocktails or pipe bombs from being used. The Columbine shooters used propane tanks as bombs, but thank God they were defective. A gun ban does not solve the problem, because the gun was not the root of the problem. The real problem in each of these mass murder cases has been the mentally deranged individuals who would have found some other means to accomplish their goals, even if guns were already banned. The answer is to get help for people who need it, not try to eliminate every type of device that could be used as weapons. Do you think Adam and Eve immediately passed a ban on rocks when Cain slew Able? Did God enact a ban on all rocks? These actions are the result of a Godless society. We lost all protection for our children when God was removed from schools!

  • mike December 27, 2012, 7:43 am

To those “silly” enough to insist march on washington er with firearms….especially military/ former military……….BONUS ARMY
For the rest of of “us”, play by “their” rules. We Will lose. Operation gunwalker proves it. What have “they” done about the innocents gunned down from those firearms? Keep your powder dry, divided we will fall.

  • Chris December 27, 2012, 7:40 am

We all might want to keep in mind the back door approach the government is trying RE: the newest UN proposal..surely something to be aware of

  • Jerry December 27, 2012, 7:32 am

Come on everybody, this is not about solving a problem, it is really about not letting a crisis go to waste. The cynical politicians just want to pass a law and then say, “See, I did something, now vote for me.” The mental illness issue IS a major part of the problem along with the crass society obsessed with self indulgence and no respect for anybody or anything. We have tolerated a professional ruling class for too many years who think they are above everybody. They talk about sacrifice and fairness but it doesn’t apply to them. The press, our 4th estate has become our 5th column. Religion and the Constitution are attacked every day in the schools. There is no understanding of our history and it is being rewritten as we speak to suit the pathetic multi-culture types. This tragedy and its aftermath will illustrate the failure of our institutions. When the economy really tanks, then all hell will break loose. I hope there are enough strong people out there to start again. They won’t be able to do it unarmed.

  • L.B. December 27, 2012, 7:21 am

“If you read between the lines of what he said and wrote, the President appears to be notifying us that his political hands are tied and that we need to act now by contacting our congress members directly, and also by letting him know what we think of his answer.”

What I heard the man say was “…I asked Congress…..banning the sale of military style assault weapons and high capacity ammunition clips….”

Where are his hands tied? He is the one asking for it, and you are making him out to be the fall guy in all this.
I just lost a lot of respect for you.

  • hawkeye2 December 27, 2012, 7:03 am

First, IF you had NOT required us to sign up to YET another website (Whitehouse) with YET MORE potential for spam I am SURE that you would have gotten a lot more petition signers, including me. Please try to originate the petitions from our own website.
I agree with ‘Ray’, their ultimate aim is to disarm America and to keep us all in ‘our place’. I hunt a lot and shoot a lot aas well. I don’t own an “AR” yet! But as of this hysteria I am in the process of getting my first. Just when you think that the lunatics have realized that legal gun owners are ok we get a screw-up wrecking it for everyone! This WHOLE gun thing started right here in Massachusetts where, if at the time the ‘security guard’ had been armed when WAYNE LOW entered Simons’ Rock college with his AR-15 she may have prevented the slaughter that ensued. That the private school student was mentally disturbed is a given. His deranged rampage caused the severe reaction and the resulting OVER regulation of firearms in this state. As a result we can’t even mail order bullets for reloading and delivery in-state.
What the gun haters fail to realize is that the murders are committed by a MURDERER! Not a gun; but a PERSON using a gun. In Africa where there are fewer guns and more “Need” to kill, they use MACHETES’. The maniac in Western New York state used an AR, THIS time, BUT her killed his grandmother with a HAMMER and they let him out of jail!!!!! Humans WILL kill one another, with whatever weapon is at hand. A criminal record check AND a mental health check are not really an objection; registration and confiscation are NOT AN OPTION!!

    • Administrator December 27, 2012, 7:11 am

When they take your guns remember your aversion to spam ok. I have yet to get one email from the whitehouse.

  • Jeffrey Padell December 27, 2012, 6:47 am

I would like to write to my representatives and Senators, but living in the People’s Republik of Massachusettstan it is a waste of time, John Kerry is not exactly pro gun unless he is running – “can I get me a huntin license here”
And now they are talking about annointing Vikki Kennedy Ted Kennedy’s widow to take his place. This state is 100% Democrate and 200% anti gun. We have gun registration for all guns
AND EVEN WORSE empty shell cases are considered ammuntion and if you don’t have a gun license you better not be caught with a fired empty .22 casing it is the same penalty as an unlicensed gun. Want to buy a black powder musket, you only need a drivers license, but want the FF FFF or black powder to go with it, you need a License to Carry. If you come back from the range and leave your fired brass in your car and someone who doesn’t have a LTC gets in the car they can be arrested for possesion!
I like this state but hate the politics.

  • JC December 27, 2012, 6:41 am

A few comments. Ya, I thought the killer used 2 pistols and the AR was found in the vehicle. Now he supposedly used the AR? Ah, who cares about accuracy or details. Why weren’t those weapons locked up especially given the crazy factor? Yes, I believe the WH shut down the pro 2A petition when the numbers started to swell past 25k signatures. I couldn’t sign it, they shut it off & posted their lame response. As for Drudge, he posted the Chinese mass killing of 20+ school children by a “crazy” man with a machete. That occurred within 24hrs of Sandy Hook. I didn’t see the media pick that up because it obviously points to the uselessness of gun control and the danger of crazies. Other deep national problems include single parent families usually without a father. Partly because of this we are being “mommy-ied” to death. Mommies seem to just want their child to survive. Many don’t seem to care what that childs future world will be. What freedoms, what opportunity to achieve full potential. The “state” will quickly get involved if a parent uses serious child discipline tools. The mental health/child welfare people have set the stage for more crazies & disfunctional, valueless people.

  • Hydrashokk December 27, 2012, 6:34 am

We have to focus on the real issue and it is not the guns – it’s the culture of violence. As long as people will believe that violence will solve problems, mass killings will continue whether it be carried out with guns, bombs, swords, fire, etc… whatever. If the government continues to wage war for their imperialistic interests and convince its citizenry that it’s doing the right thing, despite the horrific moral costs, then you will end up with this notion that killing can solve problems. If you have a nation that cheers in the streets like wild animals because some terrorist was killed, then you have a culture which glorifies violence as a means of resolving issues and you end up no better than the enemy that was defeated.

An honorable society bears its arms for the sake of peace and defeats its enemies with dignity without incurring the blowback of citizens turning on each other because they believe in violence as a resolution. Only a stupid and barbaric nation will preemptively strike out at its neighbors to achieve its interests and then resort to disarming its own citizens as a means to pacify its own culture of violence that it created. Are we going to start acting like Americans again or are we going to continue squabbling about guns when the real issue is our cultural attitude on violence? Whenever we talk about waging an endless war on terror and killing these terrorists and killing that – killing killing killing… just look at the world our children have to grown up in and think about the examples we are setting forth for our future as Americans.

The only enemy becomes our selves when we have to keep focusing on disarming our own people. Is this what has become of America?

    • Bryan December 27, 2012, 7:26 am

HYDRASHOKK – an excellent retort. So far, you’re the only one here that has posted, who has presented a real case. Excellent forethought. I hope everyone here reads and heeds your sage offering.

        AGREED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Hydrashokk December 27, 2012, 4:12 pm

Thanks Bryan! I hope so too. Let’s remember that our neighbors in Switzerland have been doing well with educating their public on guns for hundreds of years. Their society has been quite peaceful with very low murder rates.

  • Ray December 27, 2012, 6:33 am

I’ve written my representatives and explained that under no circumstances will I obey any Unconstitutional gun registration legislation, or any laws that deny me any of my 2nd Amendment protections.
I intend to protect my rights in any way required. I suggest that my representatives understand that fact of life.
Everyone of these high profile shootings over the past two decades have been committed by people who were taking doctor prescribed medications meant to control depression and anger. These drugs may be a big part of the problem, but NOBODY in the government or the main stream media is willing to discuss looking into these drugs as a possible cause to these shootings.
Their agenda is to disarm Americans.
My agenda is to make sure that doesn’t happen.
I suggest they back off, start using common sense, and realize that my Unalienable god given rights are not up for a compromise. If these politicians are expecting Americans to submit to knee jerk Tyranny, I suggest they rethink their positions.
If the gun grabbers back Americans into a corner, they had better prepare for the back lash.

    • Frank Farquhar December 27, 2012, 9:17 am

They don’t want to consider it’s the drugs because the drug manufacturers are making too much money, and according to the Supreme Court, money = speech.

  • Earnie Ferguson December 27, 2012, 6:01 am

I, as a US citizen, don’t think that anyone who is not a proven citizen should even be able to suggest messing with my 2nd amendment rights! This man from Kenya is standing there telling me he is going to tie my hands and mess with the things I love and should not even be an American President. I can’t even believe that there is not even a lick of command since to know a gun can not kill anyone. My guns have not even tried to shoot anyone and never will so leave my 2nd amendment alone!

  • JD Mak December 27, 2012, 5:49 am

Looks like the media has stepped up the war on law abiding gun owners:
    http://news.msn.com/us/newspapers-handgun-permit-map-draws-criticism
This is seriously disconcerting. They’re moving from trying to ban guns to outwardly launching attacks against citizens by intentionally placing them and their families in danger.
There should be a response to this attack.

  • Bobby O December 27, 2012, 5:44 am

Why is this so media driven? Why don’t we outlaw cars and motorcycles that run faster than the speed limit or completely outlaw alcohol for that matter all these kill more people than any guns. How many of you anti-gunners own a gun? If you don”t own a gun then keep your mouth shut!

  • Chris December 27, 2012, 5:26 am

I pray for the victims and parent of Sandy Hook. That being said perhaps it’s time to fight the biased liberal media. Maybe they should be aware that we will no longer watch look or listen to the slanted garbage spewing forth from the talking heads. Perhaps it’s time to hit them where they live. Notify their advertisers that we will no longer purchase their products if they continue to advertise on certain stations or networks. Believe me if you hit them at the money line soon they will pay attention. And companies that advertise will eventually have to look at the bottom line also. There are enough law abiding gun owners in this country that would certainly make a HUGE impact with companies that continue to sponsor these biased networks………Hit them where it hurts!………This coming after Gannett published the names and address of lawful gun owners…….The war can be won without a single shot if we beat them at their own game

I probably will get a lot of negative responses because of this, but here goes. As a gun owner, & a member of the NRA, I feel that there is no reason in HELL, why assault weapons should be in our society today. They should be in the hands of our military and law enforcement personnel. I am also a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy for 5 years during the Korean War. God Bless America.

    • Frank Farquhar December 27, 2012, 9:40 am

Thank you for your service Jack. I have to disagree with you though. During the Revolution we had access to weapons that were similar to those being used by the British. If we didn’t have those weapons we would all be speaking the Queen’s English right now. I hope I never have to try and stop our military, but I should be allowed to own military grade weapons if that’s what I want. In fact, I think everyone should have a Stinger or RPG in their closet. Remove our right to own this type of weapon and we will all be subjugated by our own government and the America we love will die. We need more severe punishment for those who commit this type of heinous crime, not more restrictions on law abiding citizens. Our government should be as afraid of us as we are of them, otherwise they will do whatever they want to us and there would be nothing we could do about it.

RELIGIONS HAVE TAKEN MANY LIVES ..I MEAN ALL.. NOT ONLY CHRISTIANITY ..ALL!!

    • Jim December 27, 2012, 8:47 am

It is when people try to take religious liberty away from us is when people die . Look at the Cristeros in Mexico in the 1930s. They fought the anti religious government of Calles and won. Look what the so called “enlightenment” did in France. Read about the Russian revolution and the Spanish revolution and all these other efforts to to squash Christianity. Even non gun owners will fight back if you try this. STOP blaming religion for the evil that atheists and gnostics do and educate yourself beyond some atheist blogs.

      • TOM December 27, 2012, 3:59 pm

WHAT ABOUT THE CRUSADES, HOLY WARS? HITLER AND SALIN WERE BOTH ALTER BOYS ..DO TELL ME ABOUT ATHIESTS KILLING PEOPLE ..ATHIESTS WILL NEVER BE ABLE CATCH UP..

        • Jim December 27, 2012, 10:24 pm

Do you really believe that Hitler & Stalin’s policies conformed to any religious principles? Oh, you forgot someone much more relevant too. Lanza went to a Catholic elementary school. Just like aetheists convert so do religious people. Some things are worth dying or killing for and none of these include taking religion freedom away from people. Mistakes have been made in the past but often principle does not conform with principle in anything. It may very well have, when the founder of American atheists, Madaly O’hair was murdered by one of her own followers. With every tyrinnical takeover there are usually 3 steps; 1st- suppress religion, 2nd- disarm the public, and 3rd- exile, kill, or get rid of any philosophy that doesn’t agree with the dictator. We are between steps 2 & 3 right now in this country.

          • TOM December 28, 2012, 5:40 pm

WELL NOT ONLY WAS STALIN AN ALTER BOY HE WAS IN THE MINISTRIES ..I BET THE GERMAN SOLDIERS WHO PUT VILLAGE PEOPLE IN THEIR CHURCHES AND SET THEM ON FIRE ..IM SURE NOT ALL WERE ATHIESTS..WE AS PEOPLE KILL IT’S IN OUR BLOOD ..OUR GOVERNMENT USE THE MOTTO ”IN GOD WE TRUST” WHILE WE ARE KILLING IRAQIS AND AFGHANS BY THE THOUSANDS ..FOR? WELL I DOUBT WE CAN TAKE THIS COUNTRY BACK WITHOUT FIGHTING ..IT’S TO FAR GONE ..THATS JUST MY THOUGHTS

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?
GOD OR NOT WE HAVE TO TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY ..AND RESTORE OUR CONSTITUTION ..SORRY ABOUT GOING OFF TRACK BUT THATS JUST MY BELIEFS..OUR GOVERNMENT USES ”IN GOD WE TRUST” ..WHO??

        • Jim December 29, 2012, 7:40 pm

I posted the wrong stage we are in. We haven’t been disarmed yet. It is between 1 & 2. The bottom line is if you stand against a true religion, you stand with Obama and the others who would try to force us to compromise our moral ethics and our constitution; nuff said.

  • Aaron December 26, 2012, 9:09 pm

The way the news government and media has acted towards fully automatic weapons has actually made me want to buy one! They have used these shootings to try to get their way which to me means they are just as bad as the shooters theirselves. We need to keep ALL guns legal because once the bans start they wont stop!

  • Kurt L December 26, 2012, 6:56 pm

People have lost their lives at the hands of others…that unfortunately will never change. BUT I dont see any laws against matches or lighters for those who perish in fires caused by an arsonist…I dont see cars banned due to negligent drivers…I dont see knives being controled or outlawed when a person loses his/her life in a stabbing. The list can go on and on, but the point is simple. As others have said, guns don’t kill people…people kill people. The cities with the strict gun control policies and laws generally have the highest violent crime rates. That has to mean something even to gun control advocates.

  • TOM December 26, 2012, 6:15 pm

  • Joseph December 26, 2012, 4:08 pm

This is a very complicated issue and will have answers that are just as complicated. What saddens me besides the tradegy itself is the gun owners who ran as fast as they could. To buy a high capacity mag and or AR 15.Too bad the kids couldn’t run. And do you really think a teacher wearing a side arm could draw it before they are blown away with out a tremendous amount of luck? Some of these kids were shot eleven times. The answers aren’t that simple. People only care about themselves and how it effects them and hell with everybody else.

    • Bill December 27, 2012, 4:49 pm

Joseph, people like you ARE the problem. Do you really think these gun bans work? Do you think that no one on the the school property with a gun would affect the outcome? There should be at least 6 armed individuals (C&C) on the property without letting anyone outside of the administration from knowing. Every time one of these horrible tragedies occurs it happens in a GUN FREE ZONE. The Genie is out of the bag.

  • Burlin Wright December 26, 2012, 2:44 pm

I support guns 100%. Absolutely no Gun control. Do the backdround checks, register fire arms. The gov. needs to know how many guns are out their.
Killing kids is so wrong, here in this country, but if the gov. has an agenda in a third world nation , its Ok their.
How many babies have been killed thru abortion and in the name of “birth control”. Millions. I’m not talking about the ones in defence of the mothers life or rape.
If we become a dis-armed nation, a moron like Hitler can take us over.
An armed nation of patriots keeps us “Home of the brave and land of the free”.
David Coleman hit it right on the head, when you take God out of the equation, he hands you over to your own devices. 84% of the people are susposed to believe in God, we stood around with our hands in our pockets while less than 16 % took God out of the schools, publice parks, court houses, removed God fearing Judges from office because they refused to remove the 10 commandments from public display.
We as a nation of voters need to come together and have a national recall on all of our representives at the State and Fed level that do not do the bidding of us, the voters.
God Bless those families that lost so much to the gunman in all the recent shootings.
A man carried the gun and pulled the trigger.

    • Joe Citizen December 27, 2012, 10:37 pm

The Government does NOT need to know where all the Law Abiding Citizens Firearms are!
Burlin, you are buying into the Confiscation of Citizen’s Firearms! Registering them is the 1st thing, confiscation isn’t possible without it.
I agree with everything else you propose. But NOT to registration Man!

  • James R Coultes December 26, 2012, 2:03 pm

I also voted for you twice and now second guessing that decision…..Those you proclaim to protect are being killed because the teachers in that school if armed could have protected themself and the children who were killed by a nutcase not the guns he carried.

Please support LAW ABIDING citizens please dont ban simi auto guns, I voted for you twice please dont make me sorry now

  • Colohunter December 26, 2012, 5:57 am

Look! What we need to do is fit the punishment to the crime. I don’t care if your 15 or 50 if you use a gun to commit a crime you get a life sentence. If you murder someone with a gun or any other weapon it’s the death penalty or life sentence depending on your state. I guarantee the crime rate will go down involving guns. Gun control laws such as the one Hillary Clinton put in place (the Brady Bill) had zero impact for the 10 years it was instated. If they think these new rules are going to work they need to look at Mexico. Do you honestly think if the people of Mexico were armed the drug cartels would be able to run that country?

There will always be people that had a bad day, week, life, or whatever excuse they use. You can not stop this fact, but to say gun laws will stop mass murders is like saying Prohibition will stop drunk driving. My point is Genghis Khan killed more people than any other nut job in history and that was done before gun powder was even created. If someone wants to get the job done they will come up with a tool to do it.

I live in Colorado and I have had to watch first hand the gross acts of these cowards. It made me sick and I had tears every time it happened. it also made me sick that they could have all been diverted if there were armed citizens in place. Not one of the Colorado shootings happened in a gun compliant zone which made them an easy target. I carry everywhere I go and if they say no I just go to a different store or theater etc.

Mr. Obama You and all your staff are under constant guard by armed secret service members so you can feel safe night and day, Why should the rest of America be any different? Do you think you love your family any more than the rest of us? Does Hillary think her family is any more important than I am to my loved ones? I will make you a deal when you the government in this country is willing to walk around without arms I will do the same!

    Thanks
    A Real American

  • Deon Williams December 26, 2012, 5:09 am

I voted for you Mr President, the only thing we need to do is have are schools protected with guards or police officers. It’s not guns or video games it’s evil or mentally disturbed people plain and simple. I’m 37 me and my friends have play violent video games since I can remember I’ve owned a gun since i was 23. There are millions of gun owners only a few commit mass murder. You take the guns from LAW biding citizens so only the criminals will have them. Criminals will keep getting guns no matter the laws.

  • Andy December 26, 2012, 1:52 am

Forgot to add how about a little press and media control see how they would go for that.

  • Perry Mace December 26, 2012, 1:01 am

Mr. President, n… [ Goverment ]… I understand your concern for the 26 families, and the 1 family of the killer. It breaks my heart to see n hear what happened. But people kill people. Not guns. I am 55 yrs. when we went to school, God was aloud in school. Not now. we had bible class, the ones that did not want to stay went to libary, etc. What do u expect to Happen to the U.S.A. It was founded on In God We Trust,,,,,,,,, God does not Like to be put out on the street. U The schools have put him out, The Goverment controls the schools, so therefore the Goverment has put God below first place. Put God first, ask for forgiveness for what Goverment did to U.S.A.[See what he can do]… Allso when kids get in a fight at school dont send them home, put a watch person on them and punish them. Make them go to school. Bring back the paddle with the holes in it.have a sudent punishment school for the ones bringing drugs ,bad students, etc. to school. And yes put bullet proof n crash proof glass in outside doors. If parents dont like it, punish them for being stupid. My generation we never even thought of such things. Take the Gun killing video games away from everyone. Thats what is helping students n older people kill people. There to real. What about Paint Ball gun fighting, they get to practice shooting at people n killing for fun . I could go on, But I think u get the picture. Use more common sense. look to past what we did not have in training students to be killers. My brother way younger then me had video games killing people. he went n joined wk end warriors. Then when it came time to serve his country he started whining. I told him u wanted it go do it . Think in the right direction. Why have Democrats n Republicans make them the same . then tell them to figure it out. thats like having a cival war at D.C. Use the Brain that God give u. Stop trying to look better than the other person n keep monies for yourself. u make way more then$250,000.00 a yr. Money hogs. By now , I dont kiss to get what I want, I work for it.

  • Steve December 26, 2012, 12:58 am

I think if we become persistant with the petitions that it would make headlines. If we are to band together and make a statment we need to be persistant in our view and in our words. Gunsamerica.com lets make another petition and send out and email and have everyone sign it. If we are persistant in this we will be heard and we can make a better statment that with just one petition.

  • George Robb December 26, 2012, 12:06 am

From Putnam County, NY – presently affecting Westchester and Rocklan Counties

This is for those that think Washington, DC is not on an agenda. Over the weekend, a local paper printed the names of those that have CCW licenses in Westchester and Rockland Counties. Yes, the names of the legal fire arm owners. They were also trying to obtain a list of what type of fire arm each owner also owned. At the moment, it does not appear to have been successful. Just the names of law abiding citizens were posted. Putnam County has not released the names, YET.

Another taking. Who are they trying to out? People who comply with the law!

We cannot sit idle while these creatures continue to skin us alive. I dare say that law suits will be forth coming once the criminals go after the new cache of fire arms in resident’s homes, or will they avoid those homes and go after their neighbors without a license or means to protect them.

Either way, the Journal News had better build up their legal fund because many innocents have now been exposed over zealous zealots. Any blood that is shed, by inocent as a result of this blatant negligence towards true public safety will be on their heads and careers.

Westchester and Rockland County should be sued for endangering law abiding citizens. Just as the editors, reporters and the Journal News for having created a target of opportunity. Is this by grand design? I would not put it past them. Who do they think they are protecting? Or are they trying to create chaos?

Every year more and more citizens are purchasing weapons to protect themselves and every year the F.B.I. report that crime over the last ten years has gone down. Why would anyone in their right mind want to take away our right to bear arms when the F.B.I. reports are proof that the more people who own weapons, the less reason a low life thug would want to take a chance of getting his ass shot off when he breaks into a good armed citizens home.

As a retired Police Officer who served twenty eight years in Law Enforcement I can tell you there will never be enough Police Officers on the street to protect all of us all of the time. That is a dream for the Liberals who live in a dream world. Keep your weapons and you can be assured your family will be safe at night while the thugs are looking for a home to break into.

When we loose our right to bear arms watch crime go up, because the thugs will know we are unarmed, but they want be!

Gentlemen, I agree with the Presidents comments that drastic measures need to be install to cutail gun violence, but with that being said, not by removing any of our rights. My take on this id yes, this is a time for drastic measures. Remove all of these irresponsible laws currently on the books and replace them with one simple law to be enforced 100% of the time and you will see a glorious reduction in the crimes utilizing firearms. My proposal will enact one simple law. IF YOUC SAY YOU HAVE A GUN , OR PRESENT A GUN, OR IN THE ACT OF COMMITTING A CRICE WITH A GUN, OR WILLFULLY PROCURING FIREARMS TO BE USED FOR ILLEGAL PURPOSSES, MAKE THAT CRIME A CAPITAL OFFENSE WITH A MANDITORY DEATH SENTENCE NO MATTER THE AGE OR MENTAL CAPACITY. ONE SIMPLY STATED LAW WOULD RESOLVE MOST OFFENSES AFTER THE FIRST COUPLE OF PUBLIC HANGINGS. If you drastic measures to correct a problem this might be the “Magic Bullet”

    • Bob December 27, 2012, 9:43 am

      James Irvin,
Now days, it’s hard to execute the people who actually commit a capital crime. I could just imagine trying to enforce what you are describing.

  • Jim December 25, 2012, 8:20 pm

I don’t understand why the main stream media attacks the NRA with such viciousness. The NRA, if one would really investigate, teaches gun safety, proper use of guns, proper maintenance of guns, and NOT ONCE have I ever seen anything where the NRA or any of its’ members advocated illegal use of a weapon. I am 71 Years of age and I have owned firearms since I was 6 years old. I was taught gun safety and usage by task masters. My Father and Uncles. Any deviation from gun safety and discipline was immediately applied. More gun regulations will not end massacres or murders. Parenting needs to be a mandatory part of child raising, religion needs to be back in schools, respect of our National emblem (the US Flag) needs to be a mandatory law as before it was amended to allow desecration.
I served 26 years in US Navy upholding our Constitution and I believe I should be afforded the rights established by the Constitution, as each every Active duty and veteran should. Sane and law abiding U S Citizens should also be granted the Constitutional rights. If a gun ban is instituted the U.S. Government will have instantaneously made all legal gun owners criminals. I use my weapons for target shooting and it is a relaxing recreation that I enjoy even if I am competing against myself. I have rifles and pistols and use both on targets.
I also agree that every time someone uses a gun to commit a crime, the left wing rises to scream gun control. Gun control is not the problem. Insanity and criminal intent is the problem. When I purchase a weapon, a background check is performed by the Federal Government and my state of residence also does a criminal check.
Limiting the size or amount of magazines is not a real fix either. A mentally unstable person will find another means to achieve what his/her mentally disturbed mind has generated. Timothy McVey used a substance that he found out how to use by searching the internet.

I would also like to point out that gun owners are comprised of people from both political parties.

I would like to point out that the anti-gun petitions can be signed by anyone, criminals and law-abiding citizens alike. Criminals would love to see law abiding citizens deprived of the right to defend themselves. It would make the home invasions, robberies, and rapes almost risk free for the criminal.

The law enforcement personnel know that gun laws will not make their jobs any easier and I would bet my last nickel, they would not relinquish their weapons if a gun ban was put in place. They know a criminal can always acquire a firearm in the black market and the Government would be unable to prevent black market smuggling of weapons into the USA.

Identify people with mental problems, make this determination available to investigative authorities (background checks being one of them). Privacy concerns appear to be more important than attacking one of the prevalent reasons for murders. Somehow the respect for human life has to be re-established in the mental makeup of our society. Too many young impressionable people have access to electronic media that lends itself to creating violence. Most of the atrocities are committed by 20 something young people, this is not to say that all 20 something people are prone to violent crimes, but this age group seems to be the more technologically advanced.

  • Larry York December 25, 2012, 7:30 pm

The Government knows that if a criminal wants a gun, he’ll find one. The question is if it suits them to do something based on popularity. Generally the “tree huggers” aren’t necessarilly informed properly, use hunting for example. The media is outrageously responsible for onesided reporting. A 12yr old boy saved his siblings from attackers by using a gun. The kids were alone and he used a gun. How much of that has been reported? And those type of stories MUST be put out there also. Not only in blogs, but on TV and Radio. Then there might be a doubt put in those 30yr olds, single mothers, etc. about gun control lesiglation. There MUST also be a coming together of hunters, shooters, etc., to speak a common voice. But I fear these groups will ban together too late because, “they won’t ban/take our guns”. Well it’s happening. Socialists have methodically, patiently, over years have finally managed to occupy offices of political importance. Now they can change laws. Americans don’t want to see it though. They evidentaly choose to be ignorant of whats really going on in our country. I don’t know the current statistics of countries that have gun bans/restrictions, but I’ll bet it would be interesting. My point is that is even a hunter with owning only a shotgun, muzzleloader, and bow, MUST support the guy who wants to own a mini-gun. There cannot be any seperation of thought on the issue. I don’t know if this is even possible given current issues showing up in gun owner organizations. And the same people that want gun control certainly think turning our schools into “jails” is not the answer. I feel it is though. Pilons at entrances, door “gates” like at the mall stores, bullet proof glass on first floor windows, and only ONE entrance for visitors with metal detectors, and teachers willing to carry pistols and go through training. Who will pay for it? Again, there is sooooo much money out there that it can be paid for by not raising taxes. And even eliminate outdoor P.E. classes, there stupid anyway. There could as easily be an “exercise class” indoors for elementary school. JR and SR high need to be cracking books, not lifting weights. I have children and cant even think of getting a call like those parents in Conn. When people only unify over tragedy shows how pathetic our nation is. That includes gun prices raising over a “what if”. Its just exploitation of a tragic event, period. Now ordinary people can’t afford to buy an AR or whatever. Its bad enough that ammo was high. Now if I get or save $ for something, it unfortunately won’t be a weapon. If there is a march or gathering, I’ll be there in support. There is my spontaneous 2 cents spend it well.

  • Jerry E. December 25, 2012, 6:38 pm

Blaming an assualt weapon for murder is like blaming Cadillac for drunk driving deaths. Its not the weapons that kill but the people pulling the trigger. If that was not true then we would see a MAJORITY of individuals killing people instead of a very small MINORITY. I have owned weapons for many years and NEVER brought one to bear against an individual but it is very comforting knowing I have the means available if it becomes necessary. In other words, ” its better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it!” It is time the MAJORITY, of law abiding citizens, stand up and answer the accusations. The governement is trying to say we are all dangerous when in fact the thousands that own weapons of all types are interested in nothing more than protecting our families, homes and property. It has become painfully obvious that the police cannot afford us the protection we can offer ourselves and I HOPE and PRAY we do not let that be taken away.

  • David Toma December 25, 2012, 6:28 pm

Each time there is a high profile incident of violence, the knee jerk reaction is to legislate the problem away. Local and national politicians USE the incident,(exploiting the recent children’s and then the fireman’s deaths) and the media circus that follows, TO PROMOTE THEMSELVES. “We should ban the evil military guns of war”, is what we are currently hearing from them… again. We need to mark these politicians and FOLLOW THROUGH at the poles.

But most of all, right now, we need to keep pointing out to everyone that will listen, that ANY
gun is only a tool. Recently, that tool was wrongly used by an insane person. Additionally, some of the money we pay the NRA needs to be used up front in the main stream media counter the feeding frenzy of anti gun activity.

According to Mothers Against Drunk Drivers(MADD) , twenty seven (27) Americans… men, women, and children are killed by a drunk drivers…EACH AND EVERY DAY ,year after year(10,500+/year).

By the sick self serving politicians logic… we should ban the cars … because drunk drivers use them to kill people.

  • David Beseda December 25, 2012, 6:01 pm

The government knows gun control will not stop the killing. Murders have been committed since the beginning of time, just more brutal. The government will not be happy until they strip us from all our rights and tax us out of all our money. They have taken God and religion out of everything they can. Non believers and criminals have more rights than christians and law abbiding citizens. I can tell you one thing for sure is, abortion kills more children than any other thing on earth, and who supports abortion.

    can you live with that

  • Wayne Franz December 25, 2012, 1:54 pm

Proof already exists that new laws will not stop, or even reduce, mass murders. Since 1949 when the statistic began mass murders have neither increased or decreased in the US. About 100 deaths per year are attributed to mass murderers. However, since both the population and the number of guns has increased markedly, one could argue that the situation is actually considerably better, on a per-capita basis, than it once was.

  • Chuck House December 25, 2012, 12:58 pm

Amen Brother //// banning gun or added laws wont change any of what is going on I remember when u could go to any high school there would be rifles in unlocked trucks in plain sight and No boddy even thought of shooting any one //blame part on the media for way these reports are driven in to these narrow minds of young people that arent mature enough to deal with reality any more it seems Get to real problems if u want to do some good quite blamming it all on guns and responable gun owners we are tired of it .

    • Bill December 27, 2012, 4:27 pm

You are so right. I can remember 40 years ago, my junior year in high school I brought a 7mm Mouser to school slung on my shoulder to my speech class to give a report on it. Most of the teachers were very interested in it. It never entered their mind that anything bad would come of it. Back then if your neighbor caught you doing something you weren’t supposed to be doing he would drag you back to your father for discipline. Now nobody cares.

  • Harold G Hess December 25, 2012, 9:32 am

  • rick grasty December 25, 2012, 9:27 am

    Dear Sir
If gun control would do any good it would be differant, but its no more than a pipe dream..the crime family dont
get there guns from a local gun shop and new restrictive laws only effects the average america that has choose to
protect themself buy owing a gun..We need to look into mental health, the media, video games, movies,TV that
glorifies gun uses in the wrong way..When i was a kid,we all had guns, but we never had school shootings..The guns have not changed but our country has and not in a good way..Our country has lost respect for others, respect for life in general..Our education system is failing our children, our health system is failing the mentally ill, and our goverment is failing us ,as no more that a bunch self serving ,do nothing crooks, setting in Washington DC to help there botton line in anyway they can..Money runs Washington and the lobbist and china own our country..Its a sad state of affairs and the outlook is not good….Our country is Broken…………………

    • sls December 27, 2012, 5:55 pm

Agreed in as much as when I was a kid we did not have first person shooter games aside from the cap gun and running around in the street, we did not witness the high number of graphic violent death on television that today’s children are subjected to. neither were there the high capacity firearms at that time. I had my great grandmothers .44 colt single action revolver, my great uncles .30 carbine, with a 30 and two 10 round magazines, my grandfather’s garrand and a few hundred stripper clips and I was considered very heavily armed. Mostly I used my .22 bolt action and a savage 99 30-30. A Browning 20ga rounded out my arsenal. it was not until much later that the idea of having a few 75 round drum magazine for an AK that could not compete with my old .30 carbine for accuracy came into vogue. In the late 70’s I declined purchasing MAC 10 and MAC 11 Ingram pistols, never have I regretted that that option in no longer available to me. Too many of my fellow gun owners have drank the Flavor-Aid and bought into a gun culture that is not healthy for themselves or the country. Fewer guns in the hands of responsible gun owners is not anathema to our democracy.

  • Warren December 25, 2012, 6:52 am

Gun ownership was a right when the 2nd amendment was written all those years ago but our founding fathers had no idea that technology would create such efficient weaponry. I am all for gun ownership and the right to bear arms but the average man in the street does not need to pack military assault rifles….come on get with the times we need regulation otherwise we will lose more than we can imagine like our children aka the next generation in more mass murders

    • Ed December 25, 2012, 12:21 pm

Warren, you have bought into the lie. When the 2nd Amendment was passed people had the same rifles and cannons that the military used. The military’s weapons have evolved and so have those owned by citizens. Since the purpose of the 2nd Amendment is to both defend our rights from invading foreign armies, as well as defend our rights against our own government should it turn against citizens, then it only follows that we have the same weapons as any military in the world would have. The fact that individuals are restricted in having large weapons, or fully automatic weapons, is a moot point not worth discussing, because they can be obtained through special permits. The point is our own government has taken many of our constitutional rights away already and is turning into a dictatorial tyrant with harsh over bearing regulations on everything, the only thing that keeps them in line is an armed populace, and if the government decides arms are to be taken away there will be revolt/civil war.

    • Andy December 25, 2012, 9:52 pm

Ed I totally agree with your opinion you have hit the nail on the head but you forgot overbearing taxes and Medicaid that is running rampant and Obama care that will cause another tax increase when it starts in 2014 but i do agree that a revolt is in the air if it happens that they bring in foreign troops to enforce it they will kill U.S. Citizens but if they try to use U.S. Troops most of them will go AWOL and take their weapons with them ” keep your powder dry”.

    • Carla December 31, 2012, 8:24 pm

Warren, I also agree with Ed’s comment. In addition, the average man or woman, would like the younger generation to learn and participate about history. Did you ever hear of Camp Perry where the National Shooting Matches have been held for over 100 years. For several weeks in July and August, there are thousands of shooters, of all ages, shooting different disciplines, several which use military rifles and pistols. I’ve been there, done that, and hope to see the younger generation and any person, having the same privilege, just as my grandfather did in 1933. You see, there is an other need to have this weapontry. I would like to think that this tradition goes on. In addition, there are thousands of other shooting matches that go on per year. Apparently you’ve never been to any of these matches. You should try participate in one of these shooting matches, or are you the average man in the streets? We don’t need to get with the times, we need to to go back in time to swift and severe punishment and God fearing people with moral responsibility and accountability.

    • Jonathan Bolz January 7, 2013, 7:14 pm

Go eat some oats Warren then read “Ed’s” reply because he is absolutely correct-!!! We MUST KEEP our Military look-a-like/ “function’s just like” the VERY SAME WEAPONS that the “costume wearers” have or we will loose the fight-! A balance of power-!!! is what it takes.

Well done Ed-!!! couldn’t have said this any better than you did, BUT get ready for that war, because it’s coming soon to a BANNED theater near you-!!!

When this is over and “WE” have won…..we really need to get the right people back into the game (House) and this time, lets start BANNING some of the shity laws/ rules that allow dick-brains to retain a seat for over 30-40 + years etc., etc. We’ve got to get the House back as well as making 1000% sure [this]* isn’t allowed to happen ever again-!

  • ken December 25, 2012, 3:39 am

It is not right that they jump to restricting the magazines or any certain firearm- it is the person that picks up a weapon no matter what, bat knife gun drugs alcohol etc…people kill…we have security in our Malls Hotels Banks and even in the SCHOOLS that the politicions children go to-YES THATS RIGHT-THEIR SCHOOLS -ARMED SECURITY…Its OK for them to be protected but not OURS—PUT security in our schools and please leave our Firearms alone.Stop giving into to the Silver Spoon POLIES and lets get real – WITHOUT OUR FIREARMS WE ARE NOT FREE-STOP TAKING FROM US….

  • ken December 25, 2012, 3:24 am

LETS MARCH ON D.C. IF THATS WHAT IT TAKES,I WILL NOT LAY DOWN MY SMALL ARMS,I HAVE THE RIGHT (NOT THE PRIVILEGE LIKE DRIVERS LIC) I SAID THE RIGHT TO PROTECT MYSELF, FAMILY AND PROPERTY,,,WE ARE TIRED OF THIS,THEY KEEP TAKING FROM US,, OUR PROPERTY,TAXES ETC…WHAT NEXT!,,,,,LETS CALL FOR A ALL OUT BAN ON HUM LETS SEE-ASSAULT ALCOHOL!-HARD LIQUOR!!!!!,,,,DRUGS, ALCOHOL AND CARS KILL MORE IN THIS COUNTRY EVERY DAY,,,ASSAULT POLITITIONS ARE ASSAULTING ME AND MY FAMILY——-ARE YOU TIRED OF THIS CRAP FROM WASHINGTON-LETS TAKE IT BACK!-THEY WORK FOR US REMEMBER THAT!!!-BUNCH OF HIPOS RUNNING THIS COUNTRY,,,

  • karl twiford December 24, 2012, 11:38 pm

We need to outlaw cars first, that would end DUI related deaths. Gun laws are already too hard and weird.

  • Heath Blair December 24, 2012, 11:08 pm

Gun bans will not fix what happened in NT CT. If we try to ban AR rifles crazy people will use much more drastic measures to prove they’re crazy thoughts in more profound nasty ways. I envision bombs, knives, clubs and fire to be just a few. The issue here is about a sad, sick individual with no purpose in life who had access to an easy out with no parental control and a school with no defense. My first suggestion to properly help the citizens of this county deal with the morning process would be the opposite of what is being discussed. I traveled to Berlin one year and at one of the airports I saw Tommy guns and soldiers everywhere. I am used to being in a free country and I found myself venerable and controlled. If you put an armed officer in a school with an AR this will never happen again. What about cost? If you try to put in metal detectors and people in place to deal with all the individuals it will eat up time, man power, and hassle that no one will agree with. People like to hear fight fire with fire. It is a win win situation to do what I am suggesting. It would also allow trained people such as myself to help out on a free save our children basis to be useful and feel honored as US citizens to do our duty. As a former officer I found that officer presence is your first line of defense. I hope someone with common sense reads this. Thanks.

    HB.

    • Bill December 27, 2012, 4:16 pm

I know this will draw fire but we have to fight back. I guarantee there are teachers out there that would be happy to be properly trained in conceal & carry. The bad guy wouldn’t know who is carrying. I know if I was the teacher I would feel much safer. Get rid of all the @#$% advertising of a “gun free zone”. Let’s face it, most of these nut jobs are cowards. Once they see they are caught, they end their miserable lives. Unfortunately we are being told what needs to be done by a government that has been walking guns into Mexico for years that have killed hundreds of people including some of our own border agents.

  • john December 24, 2012, 10:28 pm

I agree whole heartly with David Coleman. Morallity and living off other peoples money is the problem. A good dose of morallity and salvation would work wonders. A good example is an email I got a few days ago. The reason Mitt Rommey lost the election is because he promised to put the 49% out of work into jobs and they cried “screw That”

    • BUDDY December 30, 2012, 1:04 am

John, you sound bitter? Don’t you read your saviors book? You’re supposed to give to who-so-ever asks of you. Now me, I don’t believe in god so I think everybody needs to get off their lazy ass and get a job.

  • Chuck House December 24, 2012, 8:51 pm

Sorry excuess for politiual gains for libbs// get to the real problems quite useing every thing that happens on GUNS// people kill people== get fired up people let them no we are tired of this crap just so they can push there aggenda dont let up give them hell if they want to do something go after the real problems/////

  • David Coleman December 24, 2012, 7:08 pm

Guns are not the problem, what we have is a moral issue of 50 years without prayer and bible reading. Check it out for yourself. There in is the solution to our nations problems.

    • Allen December 25, 2012, 10:28 am

      You are so right!

    • Don Graebe December 25, 2012, 10:47 am

You hit the nail on the head . Kids are not taught right from wrong and they grow up to be monsters. Get back to GOD that is the answer.

      • Bill December 27, 2012, 4:01 pm

99% know right from wrong. They haven’t been given the proper discipline as they grow up. Most don’t have a father figure in the family let alone so many don’t know who they’re father even is.

      • BUDDY December 30, 2012, 12:54 am

Most of these NUT jobs believe in a god, some even say god told them to go on their shooting spree, so what good is god? How about bringing back Santa? Maybe that will fix the problem, right?

    • eagle275 December 31, 2012, 10:48 pm

Amen! Kids cannot be punished at school, by their parents, etc. They grow up to be monsters, don’t care about right or wrong. Like Hitlary said, “it takes a village” and the village is AWOL, and so is Hitlary, she’s got Benghaziphobia.

  • jeremy lail December 24, 2012, 5:43 pm

Gun Control is ridiculous. I believe it is an attempt to try to make some major change by the president in order for him to be remembered for something rather than screwing up this economy. Lets look at the war on drugs they cant stop that. with gun control it will be no different people who need guns to protect their home and family wont be able to get them while these sick people commiting these terrible crimes will just buy them off the streets the same as drugs. Terrible crimes like this latest one can be prvented. As people we stand up for those who cant defend themselves. Post a cop at every school even the mall has armed security guards. And tradgedies like this last one have a chance to be stopped. As a former Marine i will say we can stop this sick acts of violence against our nation. And its not by taking away their guns. these people commiting these crimes are going into schools and movie theatres and places they know there are no weapons. You dont see any of them walking into police stations or places that have armed security to commit mass murder. You cant take away our rights that this country was built on isnt the president sworn in to abide by those rights in the first place. and as for as limiting the size of a clip and how many rounds a person is intitled too dosent make sense to me being that you can reload a new clip in less than a minute. And a person who knows how to shoot can hit a person with each one of those bullets while someone not so skilled trying to protect themselves might hit the target one out of twleve ohh no you only had ten rounds. You want to stop the social paths you must instill fear into them. Lets protect our schools set up security and if you tell me their are not enough cops i know they are a shit load of United States Marines out their that would gladly post up in front of these schools and protect the innocent that cant protect themselves.

  • DB December 24, 2012, 4:54 pm

It is CRAZY the NATIONAL MEDIA says that guns are the problem and that its a shame that americans keep wanting to keep their guns after what happend to tho’s poor kids. Then they keep putting that AH es photo on and say how he needed help and how sad he did not get any.. I think that they should never post a killers photo or spend any time talking about them or their RIGHTS as they took the rights of the ones they killed. I feel that instead of killing and hurting familys that did not do a thing to them they should just kill them selfs if they have the bal_s too. Also before taking away guns for AMERICANS that obay the laws that they sure stop suporting commies. Why are we in need of jobs and housing prices keep going down. Our Govenment and bussiness owners are dealing with china and the Media and shows they play keep saying we have to have it made in china to make money well why dont we quit over charging companies here so they stay and we can afford to buy items. But stop dealing with countrys that are commys. Hell make it in the philipines labor is cheap their. Sorry for running on. but DAM and sorry for spelling

  • Brian Lowder December 24, 2012, 4:26 pm

Connecticut already has some of the most stringent gun laws in the USA. They did not work. Please do not let our rights be erroided by the actions of a criminal that would have found another tool to carry out his actions. The 2nd Amendment is probably the most important of all the Bill of Rights. And any action to further limit Americans “Right To Bear Arms” is a direct attach on them.
Now is the time for gun owners to stand with the NRA and say no more . Do not take away our gun heritage or try to limit further the types or amount of ammunition that they shoot or the round capacity they fire. Guns shows are just another type of club that gun owners attend.
There are on average 3 people a day killed by elephant related deaths but we do not do away with them. Please do not let the media fan this fire out of control.
Stand up together now to protect your rights…before the are stripped away from us and future generations that will never know the freedoms we once enjoyed !

    • doug December 29, 2012, 12:23 pm

Think about that… The most restrictive gun law states are usually the first targets of these looneys

  • ronnie king December 24, 2012, 3:40 pm

i am opposed to gun control but not to back ground checks. also opposed to limiting high capasity clips, i do think police security in schools would serve to help a number of different problems and might strengthen support to reduccrime over all amoung other social concerns

  • Col. Zucchi December 24, 2012, 3:06 pm

I just finished reading a story in the Huffington Post (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/18/high-capacity-magazines_n_2323928.html) wherein Rep DeGette (D-Colo.) states, “I’m not so naïve as to think that we can pass some law that will stop a deranged person from taking a gun and shooting people,” the Colorado Democrat added. “What I am interested in is making it as difficult as possible for that deranged person to shoot as many people as possible.”
In an LA Times opinion piece (http://articles.latimes.com/2012/dec/20/opinion/la-oe-burns-assault-weapons-ban-20121220), Larry Alan Burns states, “I get it. Someone bent on mass murder who has only a 10-round magazine or revolvers at his disposal probably is not going to abandon his plan and instead try to talk his problems out. But we might be able to take the “mass” out of “mass shooting,” or at least make the perpetrator’s job a bit harder.”
These folks are talking about “sensible gun laws”? They all seem rational in that they acknowledge that there is no law that will stop these sociopaths but they loose that rational when they accept that there will be at least some collateral damage.
I would like to meet those parents that think allowing a killer armed with even a single shot zip-gun into their unprotected school to commit his rampage makes more sense than gunning him down before he’s able to enter a single classroom. “Sorry Mr. & Mrs. Parent, your child was murdered but as least the other kids are ok”.

  • Rob December 24, 2012, 12:49 pm

Are you serious ? You really think ANYTHING “We The People”, yes us 200,000,000 + law abiding gun owners of Amerika will have the slightest impact on The Communist and Thief’s plans NOT to ban and or try and take our guns away ? IF that’s what you really believe, I’m giving away prime Ocean View property in Montana.

You my friends are DELUSIONAL and you better get a grip on reality and the NWO we are living..

    • Ogre December 27, 2012, 9:02 am

Agreed, whole-heartedly. The politicians now in power – regardless of party – are beyond caring for the welfare of their constituents. Have been for years, now. Their primary concern is how to remain in office…and to do that, they’ll appease the entities that can HELP them remain: The Media, Illegal Immigrants, Welfare Recipients, etc…NOT the law-abiding citizens. 🙁

      • doug December 29, 2012, 12:20 pm

So right, What we need is candidates who can get elected without the gimmme crowd

  • naji nehme December 24, 2012, 12:37 pm

TOO MUCH TYLENOL WILL KILL YOU .TOO MUCH ALCOHOL WILL KILL YOU . BUTTER KNIFES AND STEAK KNIVES CAN KILL YOU .CARS AND BIKES AND MOTORCYCLES ARE OR CAN BE LETHAL WEAPONS IN IRRESPONSIBLE HANDS
    SOLUTIONS????
ALL OF THE ABOVE SHOULD BE BANNED AND MADE ILLEGAL
GUNS SHOULD BE OUTLAWED AND ONLY CRIMINALS SHOULD HAVE GUNS AND LAW ABIDING CITIZENS SHOULD BE BANNED AND FORBIDDEN FROM DEFENDING THEMSELVES AND SHOULD BE MADE EASY TARGET FOR CRIMINALS .
THAT’S THE SOLUTION FOR GUN CONTROL !

  • Ian December 24, 2012, 12:26 pm

My relatives who died in the Shoah can explain to Obama and the rest of the Libs how well bans on weapons work. I hope and pray that people will wake up before it is too late and we have lost everything the Bill of Rights stands for.

  • Diesel December 24, 2012, 12:22 pm

Friends , beware what you say on this web site, though it is pro american, it is most definatly being tracked by the goverment, to keep a list of those who might be a problem later on. Believe this or dont believe that the cells of islam have been tracked and monitored in the same way so to gather a pattern on how people are thinking all over America, Think, they want to know what your thinking, and if you may be a person to fear later on down the road. So pick your words the right way, and never threaten the govement, there not all the badguys, but until we can figure out who is, dont give them things to use against us. After all we are all True Americans, not war mongers. Be Vigilant but think things out and be conservative in your vocalizations. DSL

    • Gary December 25, 2012, 5:28 pm

Hopfuly they are paying attention to this and and it scares the hell out them. Then they may back off and leave us gun owners alone.

    • Mervyn Russell December 27, 2012, 3:09 pm

Hey DSL, you are right, we are all being watched. to begin with, I would not want to threaten our government. The reason these people are in office is because we elected them to represent us. You will never be able to satisfy everyone all the time, you will do well to make just a few of us happy, but, then only about half of the time. I served my country during the Vietnam war, my dad served during WWII, I lost an uncle during WWII, I also lost an uncle during WWI. I’ve lost several cousins while they were serving our country. Without these sacrifices, there would be no US of A. To threaten our government would be slandering the service of all the people that have served and died. Do we have a police state? you’d be surprised to know just how secret our government can be. I’m pretty sure they have files on just about everyone that’s even made a public statement as we are this very moment. So, should we be careful about what we say? Let me put it this way, there’s an old saying, “If you can not say some thing good about some-one, you should not say anything at all,” Will our country survive as a nation of the people and for the people? You know, we may not. How long did Rome survive? And they were the strongest Nation in the World at the time. I guess it’s a wait and see.

      • Mervyn Russell December 27, 2012, 3:14 pm

PS. I’m a gun owner and I will not give up my guns without some kind of confrontation, in the courthouse or at my front door.

Its going to be a fight people, we have to take every oppertunity to keep your perimiter strong. This seemingly socialistic goverment is goiing to try to shut out our constitutional rights and its obvious they are using Nazi tactics like all the other former worlds warped sob’s. No matter what has to happen, they have already proved there going to try to take us by force. This will not be allowed to happen, so stand up, and dont think there intent is for our good, its for our CAPTURE..”SEMPER-FI AMERICANS” ETERNAL VIGILANCE IS NOT ONLY A REQUIREMENT FROM THE OTHER COUNTRY’S BUT EVEN MORE SO FROM THREATS WITHIN!

  • James Schmitt December 24, 2012, 8:40 am

I do not understand how the Government can “shut off” your web site without a court order. Did they get a court order? Or was there something else going on? Interference with the 1st ammendment is probably more important than the claimed messing with the 2nd ammendment.

  • Thomas Peterson December 24, 2012, 8:18 am

    Dear Sir,

After every tragedy where a firarm is involved, there is always a knee jerk reaction by lawmakers to force new control measures on the vast majority of legal gun owners. The fact that the constitution provide us all with the right to bear arms doesn’t seem to bother those who are bent to deprive us of that right.

Criminals, the focus of these attempts, do not obey any laws to begin with. That’s why they are ciminals! The ONLY persons affected by gun laws are law abidding folks who legally own firearms. If a criminal is plotting a crime he doesn’t apply for a license and wait for the background check. Are you serious! He steals it because he is a criminal! Just as happened at Sandy
Hook, those guns were stolen from their rightful owner by a criminal. No law would have prevented that from happening unless someone recognized that person’s mental challenges and committed him as his mother was apparently trying to do.

Ant further restrictions on our constitutional rights to bear arms only hurts those of us who legally own weapons. It strengthens the position of criminals who are that much less concerned about a prospective citizen being a threat to them as they pursue their criminal activities.

PLEASE DO NOT VOTE for more GUN LAWS which further restrict our fading liberties!

    Thomas Peterson

    • H. Hink December 25, 2012, 4:36 pm

      Good letter…Thomas,P.
I have edited it some to send to my Congressmen and Senators… not sure sending to BO will have any effect since he a lame duck… not worried about re-election since Nobember

    • RAYINSC December 26, 2012, 1:25 pm

THOMAS – AS I SAID IN A PREVIOUS E-MAIL, ADAM LANZA HAD TO COMMIT HIMSELF (HE WAS ADULT AGE). HE DID NOT KNOW THIS, AND SINCE HE HAD NOT DONE ANYTHING CRIMINAL, THE AUTHORITIES COULD NOT COMMIT HIM. I THINK HIS MOTHER WAS ON HIM TO COMMIT HIMSELF, WHICH SET HIM OFF. CHECK YOUR SEARCH ON THIS. ALSO, HOSPITALS CANNOT GIVE THE INSTA-CHECK A “HEADS UP” ON HIM DUE TO HIPPA LAWS.
CHECK THEM, ALSO, ON THE INTERNET.
HIS MOTHER WAS TO BLAME TOTALLY FOR THIS. SHE SHOULD HAVE REPORTED ANY TENDENCIES TO BE VIOLENT BEFORE HE WAS 18 AND GOT HIM COMMITTED, AND SHE SURELY SHOULD NOT HAVE SHOWN HIM HOW TO USE GUNS & ALLOWED HIM TO ACCESS THEM.
OTHERS OUT THERE IN “LALALAND”, WHO THINK BEING A GOOD MOTHER AND SATISFYING THEIR GUILT COMPLEX FOR BEARING A CHILD WHO HAS PROBLEMS FROM THE START, SHOULD STOP COVERING UP THEIR ACTIONS NOW, AND THINK ABOUT WHAT COULD BE COMING IN THE FUTURE. I PERSONNALLY WAS INVOLVED WITH A WOMAN, WHO HAD AN ELEVEN-YEAR-OLD, AT THE TIME, AND I HARDLY COULD CONTROL HIM. I TOLD HER THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO BE COMMITTED SOME DAY. SHE SAID SHE WOULD NEVER DO IT, BUT HAD TO DO IT BY THE TIME HE WAS 15, AND BY THAT TIME I WAS OUT OF THE PICTURE. IT WAS TOO MUCH FOR ME.
P.S. I CAN SEE WHY THERE WAS NO MAN IN ADAM LANZA’S MOTHER’S LIFE.
THIS IS WHERE THE THRUST OF THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE AIMED – HIPPA AND INSTA-CHECK.
AGAIN, THE ONLY GUN-CONTROL THAT WORKS IS THE ONE THAT SHOWS YOU HOW TO HOLD THE GUN TO HIT YOUR TARGET.

      • Gary Griego December 26, 2012, 5:38 pm

Thomas, I also edited and will use your example. Thanks for it.

I added the fact, that as a correctional professional, I know that we often simply send our mentally ill to prison or jail for lack of better options where they become better mentally ill criminals. Then we release them back into society at some point with little or no treatment options available to them. Many are also very violent. Anyone see a recipe for chaos? Excluding weapons, the common denominator amongst the recent killers was MENTAL ILLNESS! Plain and simple….

I also agree with you RAYINSC.

        Gary

      • William December 27, 2012, 7:46 am

Maybe more states should enact laws like they have in Florida. We have what is called the baker act, the baker act can be used if a friend or family member believes that the person is a threat to himself or others. If they had that in Ct. his mother could have called the authorities and they would have detained him and taken him to a mentally facility where he would have gone a mandatory 72 hour evaluation. May not have helped but possibly could have, you never know.

      • JAMES HOWARD December 27, 2012, 10:30 am

Well done, been there and understand perfectly, sick or not sounds like a spoiled child and a not so bright mother, there isnt a background check for that.

        • Brian McGrew December 28, 2012, 1:57 am

          James Howard,

          BINGO. NAIL ON THE HEAD.

To those of you military, ex military, and others who will fight for our freedom, I’m with you, even if all I have left is a rock. I also believe that the brunt of our military would not stand for doing the wrong thing. Many will, but we’re Americans, and all the men in my family, and my friends who’ve served in the past, and recently, have absolutely no use for Obama, those like him, and the twisted garbage they stand for.

  • phillip December 24, 2012, 7:22 am

Demacrats want to beleive that the gun does the killing…….not so its the man or wemon behind the trigger.drunk drivers kill every day, drugs are illegal when not having the right way to recive them,we seem to not care about ruining our childrens life on illegal drugs such as crack cocain, meth, herion. It seems like we need to inforce our gun laws we already have.Guns are like anything else..people need to be properly trained before using them.what if there were a trained teacher with a conceled carry permint. This could have been stopped.Guns are our only way to feel safe, have peice in this world. If you are a law abiding person you should be able to carry.

  • big ak December 24, 2012, 2:30 am

Guns dont kill people, people kill people, cigarettes kill more people yearly than guns ever will and they are easier for a child to get than a gun. Gun laws only hurt the legal gun owners of of America. Criminals dont care about guns laws, they are breaking all the other laws as we speak. When you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns. America has SOOOOO many more problems to deal with gun control shouldnt even be on the agenda. The only time there will be a war on US soil is when the government tried to ban guns.

  • ALan Bachar December 23, 2012, 11:31 pm

I hope that if you try to pass a bill to take our guns, that everyone who is a gun person in America will march on DC with their guns!!! And you can count me in as well because you will get my gun by prying it out of my cold dead hands and that will be the only way that you will get it!!!! Thank you and have a really great day.

    Sincerely, AL Bachar. Army, RET.

    • Retired MSGT Frank, USAF December 25, 2012, 1:02 am

I will march along side you in DC with my AR in hand.

        • Robert Barry December 26, 2012, 2:58 pm

I am with ya brother, second amendment all the way.

      • TOM December 27, 2012, 4:43 pm

FRANK ..DO YOU THINK OUR SERVICE BOYS WHO WE THANK FOR THEIR SERVICE WILL TURN THEIR GUNS ON US IF WE START A CIVIL WAR??? I MIGHT HAVE TO HAPPEN.. WOULD THE POPULANCE STILL HOLD THEM IN HIGH REGARDS? THE POLICE ARE THE MUSCLE FOR THE CROOKED POLITIANS ..LOOK AT THE PEOPLE WHO TRY TO ASSEMBLE IN PROSEST..WHERE IN THE CONSTITUTION DOES IT SAY THAT YOU NEED A PERMIT TO ASSEMBLE?

    • Jonathan Bailey December 27, 2012, 5:16 am

It is better to have a gun and not need it
than need a gun and not have it.

It is called the Bill of Rights, not the Bill of Needs.

      • Amanda December 27, 2012, 11:05 am

Exactly!! The pres just lumped us all together with all the whiners that don’t want us to be able to defend ourselves against a rogue government! Unfortunately a predictable twist of the truth to include the scare tactics used by our government to take over control of all of our rights under the constitution!! They have played this card many times! Tragedy=control of ‘people’ with new law “for their protection”. It’s sickening that apparently even though the petition, written and signed by over 50k people, stood apart against gun control, it had no effect and was shut down by the very government who is “asking for input”. Thats one thing I’ve seen before, the government doesnt like something said or written, they shut it down-mighty convienent dont you think? Marching has always been a first amendment right of protest/free speech, but don’t be suprised if they arrest you because your carrying a “weapon of mass destruction” in public and call you a “terrorist” and then just say that you proved their point about gun control. I personally am against any of this legislation about gun control and own some weapons myself, so I DO stand with all of you! Any of these laws will only make it easier for a government takeover, period. They won’t help protect any children from gun wielding maniacs who don’t buy their weapons legally anyways!! Children safety is only a sales pitch to get the heart strings involved. I think every tragedy is horrible, especially when involving innocent children, don’t get me wrong. But legislating law abiding citizens out of their right to buy what they want for their own protection is VERY WRONG!!! Again it’s a perfect example of big government using a tragic situation to take more control of the everyday Joe/Jane and being one step closer to dissolving the constitution.

      • bill December 29, 2012, 9:56 am

i agree with you 110%, if you need to defend yourself it’s pretty hard with a knife, or a daisy red-ryder bb gun w/ the compass in the stock!!!!!. i have lots of guns & pistols, all of which i’m very capable of defending my family, and myself, and for that reason only. Not really a game hunter, other than maybe small game, not able to deer hunt any more , i’d rather catch them on film than kill one.But thats just my feelings, dont care if anyone else does. I think guns dont kill people, nut cases w/ guns kill people!!! Thats why i’m keeping mine, REGARDLESS!!!!!!!!!!

    • Jonathan Bolz January 7, 2013, 6:28 pm

Just let me in on this when it starts-! I’ll be in there with the rest of you-! Looks like this is the only way we’re going to get rid of these (?) Anti-American-Agenda leftists, I’d like to say a whole lot more but you can imagine what it is, none of you need me to blab.
I WILL fight along side of all of you, H&K G3 in one hand, “Bushmeister” M4/ AR-15 in the other, 10mm on one big toe and Springfield Armory XPM .40 on the other big toe, I’ll FIND a way to carry all of them-!
GOD help us, I’m so sick of this crap-! BUT-!!! Give me liberty or give me death-! I don’t want to live in their new world and I wont-!!!

  • Matt Liberatore December 23, 2012, 9:58 pm

After I signed the petiton and left comments for no more gun control and explained how no legislation would have prevented this terrible crime I recieved a response back thanking me for supporting the President’s position! Then on the way to work I heard on the national news on the radio how over 400,000 had signed petions on whitehouse.gov in favor of gun control! It wasn’t until the end of this report where it was mentioned that even those signing the petiton in favor of the second amendment support protecting our children….it was absurd the way this was slanted so I reported this in the feedback on the response from whitehouse.gov telling them it was not right that they were including the signing of ALL the petitions to make it seem it was support for more gun control. But, I shouldn’t have been surprised.

I think what is needed at this point is a petiton demanding the President does NOT evoke executive privilege as he mentioned was a possibility in his first staements following the shooting.

    • Administrator December 24, 2012, 9:40 am

It is nice to see that someone else is actually paying attention Matt. They did indeed lump us in when speaking about the numbers.

      • James December 27, 2012, 9:19 am

If the petition is being lumped along with their anti-gun agenda; it’s a fixed deal. They will do just as they please and it will become another midnight executive order. With this being such a critical issue, one may think that our Government would have correct means of counting the petitions “Yay or Nay”. I just wonder if the same poll counter was used for the 2012 ELECTIONS????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

        The 2nd Ammendment,,,,,
Amendment II: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be INFRINGED.

        Definition of INFRINGE
        transitive verb
1: to encroach upon in a way that violates law or the rights of another
        2 obsolete: defeat, frustrate
intransitive verb: encroach —used with on or upon

In order for one to take Official Office, our Representatives are sworn to uphold the CONSTITUTION. Any act of defiance towards their sworn duty is grounds for dismissal.

Laws to punish criminals are weak! Why have so many turned from good and turned to bad? “Slap on the wrist” sentencing, loopholes that allow them to either walk away or give them short laxed sentencing! Why does our Government seek to throw all of us in the same boat as common criminals who have lost their rights due to their criminal actions? There is RIGHT and there is WRONG, most of us past the age of 14 know the difference!

The choice to own rifles and magazines is personal choice. The choice for these may not seem feasible to some as they drive away in their sports car capable of doing 165 MPH, while talking on their smart phones while driving to their favorite sports bar to have several drinks, or go to their friends house to play “Games” that are corruptive to the mind. Not to mention the theater to view a movie that solely promotes criminal behavior. In the 50’s kids watched western films and acted out their viewings! Our generation is acting out also. The problem is our generation is seeing and hearing much more random acts of violence in the movies, games and music that they are subject to. However, these are choices. The individual must take responsibility for his/her actions.

Neither firearms nor their magazine are capable of plotting and launching massive attacks on humans! Personal, individual actions and behavior is what causes these horrible situations.

Last Comment! Assault Weapons is a false nomenclature. The manufacturer of AR-15 style firearms does not advertise these as such, nor does any other firearm manufacturer. It is a name that our trusted media has bestowed upon them to create a dark cloud. Our military does not call their M-4’s Assault Weapons. I suppose one day anything used in criminal acts will become dubbed as “Assault” in the prefix. Assault Baseball Bats, Assault Knives, and Assault Golf Clubs etc!

God Bless America and the Americans who are Americans!

        • TOM December 27, 2012, 5:12 pm

THIS IS A GOVERNMENT THAT USES THE MOTTO ”IN GOD WE TRUST ” BUT THEY CAN’T BE TRUSTED ..

Remember what Joe Stalin had to say about democracy and voting:
‘It doesn’t matter who votes, it matters who counts the votes.’

IM QUOTING HIM BECAUSE WITH ALL THE RIGHTS WHICH HAVE BEEN TAcken away ..we are not a A DEMOCRACY ANYMORE..WE CAN GET ARRESTWED NOW AND NOT BE SEEN EVER AGAin ..just like in stalin times

      • jay December 27, 2012, 9:26 am

It is interesting that the title of the blog says ‘we stand as one’ yet you attack alex jones and matt drudge. This is a time that even if allies are in the green party we link with them.to bitch and cry that your petiton did not get a mention on liberty minded websites is infantile.alex and drudge are staunch lovers of the constititon and bill of rights.someone who listens to alex like me on a daily basis or even glenn beck which I do as well may not agree 100% of what they say or support.a better tact instead of ad homonym attacks is to reach out an olive branch and find common ground IE the 2nd amendment.there are staunch 2nd amendment democrats out there.are you gonna call them kooks and moronish if they differ on a particular issue you disagree with them on and ignore them when we have an opportunity to ally with them on the 2nd amendment and use that issue to try and change their hearts on the other issues.that is what Ronald Reagan did .he found commonality and then used that to sway the other side to his argum.ents.so my advice to the blogger is to grow up ,swallow his tribal pride and reach out in this time of constitutional crisis and find as many allies as possible on THIS ISSUE because there is no time for quarreling

        • Administrator December 27, 2012, 9:32 am

That is the point. We, the gun owners, stand as one. They are just entertainers selling advertising and print whatever they think will make them more money.

          • jay December 27, 2012, 11:23 am

you are just not gonna get it.rush Limbaugh is an entertainer,so is Hannity,so is whoever sits behind a microphone or camera.we are a media driven society. garbage programs contained within MSNBC,CNN, and the like are a powerful sway to the dumbed down masses, we ALL need to band together despite small differences and overbear the leftist media who has a strong, loud voice and is a shill for obama. To just call alex a turd prepper is infantile. it makes you look small and petty, besides have you seen the viewing ratings of doomsday preppers ??(as over the top it is)..there are alot of concerned people out there afraid of the collapse of this country and where food for our families will come from if the Fed keeps printing money and the dollar goes Weimar Republic. The second amendment is a linchpin to the freedoms we currently hold.If we lose that then all the other ‘conspiracy’ stuff you dismiss WILL come down like a ton of bricks because we will not have a 2nd amendment to stop the tyranny. The left wants to keep us from banding together to get our representatives from protecting us.LEFTIST MEDIA is the turd in the puchbowl,so stop the sniveling and call out to alex and drudge, i am sure they will welcome you all to the fight. All you have to do is contact them. can’t we all just get along?

        • jerry eddleman December 27, 2012, 11:06 am

I totally agree with Jay. In fact, I’m outraged by your characterization of Alex Jones and the prepper movement as a turd in the punchbowl. How DARE you? Your disparaging commentary remind me of the way Soledad O’brien attacked John Lott on her interview or Piers Morgan called Wayne LaPierre stupid (I suspect he didn’t talk to Ted Nugent that way as Ted would have punched his lights out). Your snide remarks make you look petty and you risk alienating a segment of our voting members who we need to stand with us in this fight. You may not agree with their politics but right now those that are not with us are against us and we need to stand united to defend our 2nd Amendment rights. I won’t sign the petition as I believe the President will use the petitioners numbers against us. I will, however, contact my U.S. Representative and my state’s U.S. Senators. Meanwhile, I think you owe Alex Jones and the prepper movement an apology. Otherwise, you are no better than the condescending liberal media lackeys.

        • TOM December 27, 2012, 4:38 pm

ALEX JONES AND MATT DRUDGE ARE IN IT FOR THE MONEY!! BOOK SALES ECT..

        • Bigmag47 December 30, 2012, 4:53 pm

I`d listen to Jay on this one, he has it 100% correct!

I sent sent a message, and never got a response, friend of mine sent a message and they responded with same message as you, which tells me some of our message is obviously somehow going to the wrong mailbox, and obviously, they are not being read either.I sent same message as you,no response and you got response cause it went to wrong box,and you get a thank you.Obviously progun is not responded to….hope im wrong.

    • Don December 27, 2012, 11:25 am

When we have a corrupt government, it is not unusual that they would twist things in their favor. It is truly disgraceful where our leaders (I use that term lightly) have taken our great country. We are no longer lead by Patriots, but by self serving idiologs who care only for their own agendas and what they can get with their greedy hands. We need true American Patriots to replace the low life morons currently in office. I was so disgusted when obama was re-elected, I couldn’t believe that people would actually want an anti-american back in office. We definitely have a fight on our hands and the 2nd Amendment is a good place to start.
God Bless America, Our Troops and all of America’s Patriots!!!

      • Dan R January 22, 2013, 7:19 pm

Hello I am not a advacate of the NRA, but I do want to protect our loved ones etc. i do beleive that law abiding citizens should be able to keep and bare arms We have rapests and murders that have hurt law abiding people like you and I. We abolish the death penelty WHY becuase we feel sorry for them maybe if the victims of these crimes were armed the perperatrators would have thought twice of hurting our loved ones. The president and his family are all protected by armed gaurds and i am sure that they dont have to pay taxes on there weopens, they can carry concealed also.I do not know what this state and country is comming to!Something like “Hitler” brought us peace and tranquility. My father was in WW2 and he did things above and beyond for the war effort to bring total peace he fought to keep america the free country that is is or will it be was? i am a collector of military weopens in memory of him now my rights to purchase and keep his memory and pride for years to come.Everything he fought for is in jeprody because of robbers muggers and crazy people have robbed and stole guns just to commit more crimes and hurt law abiding citizens.
Not to mention my home was robbed and it took the state ploice 25 minutes to arrive at my home. The barracks were 11 miles away and my 10 yr old son was in the house by himself while this was happening so where is the justice and protecting of our family and possesions??? Not to mention cars have killed more people that guns you have to have a license to operate one so lets all start walking or buying horses and !!!
        please respond.
        Thank you
        Sincerly Dan

    • Michael December 27, 2012, 6:55 pm

yes I too saw the message after signing a petition against the gun control , and thanking me for supporting obama…No real suprise to see that …..crooked weapons deals, crooked election, crooked petition numbers, and now eroding the American Constitution using a mentally unstable boy as an excuse..shame on you, shame……this president seems like Americas enemy to me….

    • Gary December 28, 2012, 3:15 pm

The minority of American People that still believe in the constitution, religion and the freedoms that we have had in the past continue to diplomatically squawk and express their feelings to a bought and paid for congress and establishment which openly now smiles and laughs at how hopelessly we look. We squawk and write letters and they pass bills. The second amendment was all about raising up against the government. Our forefathers knew their would be a day when their would be a government overthrow of the people. Will the people raise up? No, the American people today will not raise up against the government. They need to get used to the changes that the people have voted for.
