A New Orleans man shot, killed an armed robber on Wednesday night, according to authorities.

While sitting outside his home on the patio with his 36-year-old wife, the 28-year-old homeowner was confronted by a masked man toting a firearm, who instructed the two to enter the home where the couple’s three children were inside.

The robber demanded money, but instead of forking over cash the homeowner grabbed his firearm and shot the suspect.

The 25-year-old gunman was pronounced dead at the scene, said investigators for the New Orleans Police Department.

Neither the suspect or the homeowner have been identified as of yet.

Meanwhile, the homeowner has the support of his community.

“I would have done the same thing,” Larry Levy, a neighbor told WDSU. “He was protecting his family.”
