This story is developing, but CNN is reporting that a Malaysian Airlines passenger jet crashed on Thursday killing 295 individuals in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, near the Russian border.

The incident is currently under investigation.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials are saying that the plane, a Boeing 777, may have been shot down by terrorists.

“We do not exclude that the plane was shot down and confirm that the Ukraine Armed Forces did not fire at any targets in the sky,” Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said, on his website.

UPDATE: Both Fox News and CNN are reporting that the plane was shot down by surface-to-air missiles. It’s not yet clear who fired the missiles.
