Description: These pistols are exact museum-quality replicas of those used by Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr during the most famous duel of all time which took place in 1804. Meticulously precise in every detail, they are indistinguishable from the originals; they are also .54 caliber muzzle-loading black-powder pistols that can be fired and are exempt from all Federal regulation. These pistols were hand-crafted and hand-engraved for the U.S. Historical Society in the renowned arms studio of Aldo Uberti of Italy. The original set used by Hamilton and Burr, owned by Chase-Manhattan Bank, were completely dismantled in order to re-construct only 1200 sets of replica pistols; the set herein up for auction being number "1070". During the dismantling a hair-trigger mechanism was discovered, something kept secret for generations. The pistols are set in a fitted and lined solid American Cherry display and carrying case complete with a key. My husband purchased the set in 1981 as a commemorative gift; the pistols have been removed from the case very few times but have never been fired- only test-fired at the Uberti studio as mentioned in the accompanying literature. There is a tiny nick on the underside of one pistol but it in no way diminishes the astonishing beauty of these pieces. Included with the set will be a Certificate of Authenticity, firing instructions, and written material explaining the pistols' historical significance, biographical information on Hamilton and Burr, a theoretical description of the duel itself, and other fascination information; also a diagram of the secret hair-trigger and directions on setting it are included. This set of pistols is an item of rare beauty and value-a true treasure.

".....a worthy addition to any collection and certain to stimulate conversation among gun collectors and historians alike. The mystery surrounding these pistols certainly adds flavor to them and quality of workmanship is beyond question." Guns and Ammo Magazine
