Description: Wow, if only it could talk, what stories could this fine antique tell! In wonderful condition, offered is a British Military horse pistol which started out life as a flintlock during the reign of King George the Third (October 1760 – January 1820)…famous in the United States as the ruler of the British Empire during our American Revolutionary War. Don't know when it was converted to percussion, but converted it was and it could quite possibly have been in use even during the American Civil War.

The pistol is in overall very fine condition. Pistol has a smooth and even patina and with the exception of a replaced nipple, appears to be completely original (I do have the original nipple and that will be included with the pistol). You can see the markings on the side lock where the springs from the frizzen of the flintlock were located…nicely filled in as they should be on a converted lock. The lock is also marked “TOWER” and has the crown logo with the letters “G R” (Georgivus Rex) underneath. To the right appears to be an arrow. The lock works just fine in both the half cock and full cock positions…no slipping or weakness of the mainspring spring.

The barrel has some proof marks or maker’s marking on it. The brass fittings are excellent with an even age patina.

Stock is in very nice condition, no cracks or breakage noted or seen. There is a piece of the stock missing below the ramrod, and judging from the color and wear of the missing area, this piece came off the stock back when it was nearly a new pistol. The ramrod is held in place by a pressure spring internally mounted in the stock and by a swivel attached to the underside of the barrel, and all functions as it should. Very nice brass nose piece on the stock.

Overall length of the pistol is approximately 16 inches, barrel measures 9 inches long and is smooth bore about 69 caliber and has a nice overall patina. Not bad for a pistol of somewhere between 185 and 220 years of age! I have actually fired this using a 25gr. charge of FFFg black powder with wadded paper over the charge. Functioned just magnifcently. I mention this just to give you an idea of it's condition. It is my personal opinion that it could be actually used if one was of a mind to do so.

I’ve included lots of photos for you to examine…pistol is nicer than the photos show.
