Description: This particular Smith & Wesson .38 Combat Masterpiece, numbered model 14-2 made its debut around 1975 under Chief René Daigneault, and served with the Service de Police de Montréal, Montreal Police Department in English, almost 30 years before the department switched to semi autos. From its K800000 range serial number, however, it was manufactured in 1968. In their day, the 6 inch barreled 14s were slow sellers, so a Quebecois Armorer modified this one for service, attest the vise marks on the revolver's frame. It shipped with at least 3 8K prefix model 15s to Montreal around 1975. Type is traditional swingout double and single action service revolver with transfer bar safety mechanism. Frame is K Medium Square Butt. Construction is entirely steel metal. This weapon is serialized on its butt and inside the frame, with armorer's numbers on the cylinder yoke and on the grip frame laterals. It is import stamped under the barrel's muzzle end. Chambering is .38 Smith & Wesson Special and .38 Special +P Interchangeably. Barrel is one piece 4 inch tapered, pinned into the frame, with exposed ejector rod. Sights are stepped serrated blade front on a solid serrated rib, with windage and elevation adjustable black blade rear. Cylinder capacity is 6 rounds. Trigger is .265 service size serrated face with matching serrated spur service hammer. Frame is K Medium with Square Butt grip frame. Grips are later style Herrett's Target Walnut, speedloader friendly. Ignition is hammer nose with a transfer bar safety system. Cylinder measures 1.44 diameter by 1.56 length. Overall length is 9 1/2 inches by 5 1/4 height. Finish is polished surface blued steel, with color casehardened hammer and trigger, and with semi-gloss walnut grip panels that have nickel plated brass medallions and screw, and brass escutcheons. Weight empty is 32 ounces, centered at the trigger. Double action trigger pull is smooth and consistent 11 pound vicinity. Cylinder travels fully 10 to 15 degrees after the cylinder times in all 6 positions on double action. On single action, the hammer travels 25 degrees after the cylinder times, and single action trigger pull measures a stiff but crisp and original 5 1/4 pounds. Lateral cylinder play is moderate with the trigger relaxed; and minimal with the trigger fully depressed. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap measures a perfect .007. From the minimal carbon on the cylinder face and top strap underside, we estimate this revolver was fired no more than 500 times. Surface detractions are moderate, principally wear to the rear sight blade edges, wear to the cylinder surface, and wear to the grip frame back strap. We rate it as Good, perhaps Very Good Condition, 70 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. One sees model 15s priced at upwards of $800. We're offering the neighbourly Combat Masterpiece in the photos, however, for only $ 459.00. Not transferable to civilian residents of California until January 1, 2018. Not transferable to non C&R Civilians in Massachusetts. Any ammunition or personnel in photos are Not included.
