Rohm .38 Special RG38 Gunsmith Special Repairs Needed Revolver Snub 2 inch Vent Rib Pinned Barrel 1967 Production C&R OK Guns > Pistols > FIE Pistols
Description: Please note that this revolver has mechanical problems and needs repairs from a professional gunsmith. From a New England collection comes this RG38 Snub Revolver. Manufacturer was Rohm GmbH of Sontheim, West Germany. Importers until December 1, 1968 were various; this one probably came in through Eig Cutlery in Miami. After 1968, RG Industries opened in Miami, with German Barrels, cylinders, and part fitted into US Made Cast Frames. RG Industries was sued out of business in 1986 by none other than Sarah Brady. From this RG’s 26000 range serial number, it was manufactured in mid 1967. Type is true swing out, single and double action revolver with transfer bar internal safety and thumb latch cylinder release. Construction is steel inside barrel, cylinder, hammer, trigger, and internal parts fitted into a zinc alloy / zamak pot metal frame with pot metal barrel shroud, thumb latch, and hammer spur; and with brown plastic grip panels. Cylinder release / thumb latch is replacement fitted Smith & Wesson. Chambering is .38 Smith & Wesson Special Caliber, and cylinder capacity is 6 rounds. RG Revolvers were Not designed to withstand +P ammunition, but we know of a good many of this one’s production mates that survived firing +P. Barrel is two piece two inch, pinned into place, with steel inner barrel that has 8 groove right hand 1:18 rifling. Sights are two post vent rib with serrated ramp front, with frame integral fixed notch rear. Trigger is .220 smooth face, with .200 steel hammer with serrated spur. Ignition is floating firing pin, with transfer bar internal safety device that prevents the hammer from contacting the firing pin unless the trigger is fully depressed. Frame is square butt type, medium frame. Weight empty is 29 1/4 ounces, with center of gravity at the cylinder stop and trigger. Cylinder does not open correctly; as it sits, a pair of pliers to the ejector rod will make it open. The thumb latch cylinder release is not operable. Apart from that, cylinder rotation, and trigger and hammer operation are normal. Finish is anodized alloy and blue steel. Surface detractions on this RG38 are moderate to extensive, principally dullness to the anodized area, and edge whitening and occasional freckling to the blue. We rate its finish as Good, perhaps Very Good, 70 to 75 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Double action trigger pull is tight but smooth 12 pound vicinity. On both single and double action, the cylinder times correctly on all six positions. Cylinder has no lateral play with the trigger fully depressed. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap directly above the barrel’s forcing cone is minimal, only a faint etchy impress. We estimate it was fired fewer than 200 times, all with standard velocity ammunition. Trigger rebound is good. Replacement pricing on similar revolvers from Armscor and Rossi is $300 or more. We’re offering the 1967 RG38 in the photos, however, for only $ 89.00. Transferable to California civilians due to its age and C&R Status. Not transferable to civilian residents of Illinois, District of Colombia, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, or any jurisdiction with a Melt Law or Approved Firearms Roster. Any ammunition or personnel in our photos are Not included.
