The availability of top quality, graded 20ga. Fox shotguns has dwindled to nearly zero. Shooter/collectors have recognized the Fox 16ga. and 20ga. guns are the most well-balanced, best handling guns of all the vintage American doubles. It is also known that they have the simplest, most reliable actions as well. The total production of A Grade 20ga. Fox guns was just over 2400 guns. Due to damage, loss, poor restorations, etc. there are less than 1000 genuine, honest, factory correct, high-condition Fox A Grade 20ga. guns left in the world, and the guys that own them are not likely to be selling them soon. This Fox, sn200656 produced in 1914, is an awesome find. First, THIS GUN LEFT THE FACTOR WITH FULLY FIGURED WOOD THAT EXCEEDS MOST D GRADE STOCKS WE HAVE SEEN. Look at the wood on this gun! When we bought the gun, the wood was oil-soaked and dull. We fully restored the wood and it is fantastic. We photographed the serial numbers and machining on the inside of the stock and it is definitively factory original. The checkering, wood-to-metal fit, and hand-rubbed oil finish is gorgeous! Second, the engraving on this gun is much nicer, deeper, and more defined than any late style engraving you will find. William Gough came out with the “late style” A Grade engraving pattern in 1913 and the early guns were done to much nicer standards than later production guns. The balance of the gun is in superb factory original condition, with 15% factory case color, trigger guard mostly silver from natural wear, perfect screws, crisp trigger pulls, and the 28” number 3 weight barrels are choked IC/M with mirror bores and tight on the hinge pin and breech face like a new gun. THIS IS A “VFI CERTIFIED” GUN, meaning we stripped the forend iron and receiver to the smallest parts, ran it through the Ultrasonic cleaner, inspected all parts for integrity and function, then lubricated and reassembled (a $275 service). VFI CERTIFIED guns carry a 90-day mechanical warranty. This is a superb upland bird gun, weighing 6lbs. 3oz. and balanced perfectly on the hinge pin, you can carry her all day over tough terrain and not get “long arm syndrome”. The stock dimensions are awesome (see tables below), another huge plus in the vintage double gun world. It is hard enough to find a decent A Grade 20ga. nowadays, let alone one with all of the killer features of this fine Fox. IF YOU LOVE BEAUTIFUL WOOD, THIS IS YOUR GUN! Don’t let this one escape you.
