Description: L.C. Smith 5E 16 Gauge SxS

RARE!, 1 OF 36 MADE, 28” BARRELS, 100% PERFECT!

General Specs: LC Smith, Year 1906, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 9oz, Side-by-Side

Serial Number: 205540

Vintage American double gunners recognize L.C. Smith guns built before 1913 as the best of their kind, with more attention to detail, better stock inletting, and even nicer engraving than the named models that came post 1913. Few high grades were made, with only 525 Grade 5 guns produced all gauges, ONLY 36 MADE IN 16GA. This gun, sn205540 made in 1906, is a perfect example of how beautiful these guns were and still are. The detail in the dogs, the scroll work, the background scenery is all superbly done and undoubtedly my favorite American engraving ever. What a gorgeous gun, with 28" barrels choked IC/M, weighing 6lbs. 9oz. on its stout regular size frame and balanced perfectly in hand, perfect mirror bright bores, highly figured French walnut ending in the most tasteful leather covered pad, and the most perfect historically correct restoration you will ever see. I LOVE THIS GUN! With all of the great guns coming and going through Vintage Firearms, Inc. it takes a lot to impress me. Look carefully at these photos…the gun is perfect in every way. WOW! Is all I can say. Mechanically perfect with strong well-timed ejectors, crisp double triggers, barrels tight on hinge and breech face like a new gun with the lever still right of center, perfect screws, perfect wood to metal fit, she is ready for another century of service and enjoyment. When considering upland game, doves, pigeons, or clay targets, this gun is ready for all. Collector interest in L.C. Smith has become brisk, with prices rising and creating a great investment opportunity. Consider what a Parker Grade 5, or BHE, 16ga. would cost in this condition (over $30,000) and you realize what a bargain this is. I consider the Grade 5 Elsie to be one of the most beautiful of the American doubles, no matter what the cost. Just look at the detail in the dog's features, the intricate scroll and bouquet engraving throughout, and the gorgeous borders. Check out the wood to metal fit, screws, checkering...what a nice 111 year old gun! Grade 5's don't come up for sale very often, so don't miss your opportunity!
