Description: Merkel pre-war O/U two barrel set in 16/16 and 16/7.8x57mm. Serial number 5193 appears on receiver, both barrels and forend. The 16/16 barrels are 30-inches long, have 2.5-inch chambers, are choked C/F and have extractors, solid rib and sling loop. Bores are bright and shiny. The combination barrels are 27-inches long, with the shotgun barrel having a 2.5-inch chamber and is choked M. These barrels have a solid rib that incorporates a two-leaf rear sight (one fixed and one folder), a bead front sight, sling loop and integral offset bases (rings are not included). The shotgun barrel is bright and shiny, and the rifle barrel is bright as well, but the rifling is beginning to soften (yet remains very shootable). Both sets of barrels appear to have been refinished and are currently about 90%, with slight finish wear and small impressions in the ribs. The forend has an ebony tip accent. It appears to have original finish, with some tiny edge chips, a few field impressions, a spot of case goo and worn checkering. Under magnification, it appears that a small hairline crack is beginning at ebony inlay. The scalloped receiver is fully-engraved with a roaring red stag on the left and flushing pheasants on the right, both highlighted by a floral pattern that extends along the tang, safety and forend furniture. The receiver features cocking indicators, horn guard, and six ebony teardrops in the grip, cap and comb. The butt plate appears to be original, as it has several small "worm holes" at the toe. The finish appears to be original and there is a slight amount of freckling. Overall butt stock condition is about 80%, with rounded checkering and field impressions. Weight (with 16/16 barrels is 6.4 pounds. LOP is 14.1 inches, drops are 1.5 and 2.5 inches, and cast off is about .4 inch. Included is an added wood takedown presentation case with brass lid handles. Price firm. Layaway considered. Photo package by request.
