Description:
Nice looking postwar Springfield Armory M1 Garand, serial number 58885xx, made in November 1955. SA 6-55 barrel, likely original to the receiver, with a bright bore. Marked parts are Springfield, show far less than average wear and all seem to be exactly the right type for the receiver. Stock is GI walnut with stars and eagle. No import marks.
We test fired this Garand at 100 yards and it performed great, cycling through a full eight round clip with no issues, ejecting the clip at the end. You can see a video of our test firing on our YouTube channel, FernwoodArmoryTV.
Part Details:
· Receiver: marked “F 28291 35” on leg, heat lot T5, absolutely no pitting, very likely original finish with only moderate wear.
· Barrel: marked “SA F6535448 6 55 MD 51” in op rod slot along with several “P”s and punch mark, small DAS stamp. Bore is bright, rifling and crown excellent, chrome pads at gas port. Barrel is likely original to the receiver, chamber in the white. External finish very good, slight wear in contact areas.

· Lower band: two-piece silver soldered type with roll pin
· Clip latch: square front type, unmarked
· Op rod: marked “6535382 SA”. Excellent condition, no pitting, very little finish wear.
· Op rod catch: late type, unmarked
· Bullet guide: stamped with notch, unmarked
· Follower: late type, unmarked
· Follower arm: no bevel, unmarked
· Follower rod: long fork, riveted
· Bolt: marked “6528287-SA Y01”
· Firing pin: half round, no chrome tip
· Sight knobs: knurled postwar T105 type, elevation marked “WCE”, windage marked “SA”
· Rear sight base: late SA type, unmarked
· Rear sight cover: late type with ribs
· Rear sight aperture: double track, unmarked
· Trigger housing: marked “6528290-SA” Small pad, cloverleaf hole, no pitting, exc condition, very little finish wear
· Trigger guard: stamped with stamped hook
· Trigger: late type, no extra hole
· Hammer: marked “SA C5546008”
· Hammer spring plunger: no wings
· Safety: round top, marked “SA_11”
· Gas cylinder: wide sight platform, flat on top of rear ring. Gas cylinder group finish very good, some handling wear. The gas cylinder/barrel fit has been tightened to maximize accuracy.
· Front sight: 0.65 wide, unmarked
· Gas cylinder lock: high hump postwar type
· Gas cylinder screw: cross slot, poppet valve type, marked “P” and “O”
· Stock: walnut, has stars and eagle on left side and circled “P” on pistol grip. Has some dings and gouges, no cracks. Marking condition indicates the stock has never been sanded.
· Handguards: walnut, no cracks, good color match to stock, front HG has a chip out of lower edge, see photos.
· Buttplate: round plunger.
· Accessories: web sling, seems to be a postwar type, in VG condition. Cleaning rod, brush, oiler, combination tool, greasepot. Two enbloc clips (no ammo) are included.
