Description: Charles Daly Diamond Quality #275 16ga

1908, PRUSSIAN, H.A. LINDNER, WOW!

Year 1908 approx, 16ga, 5lbs 14oz, SN#: 1698

Ask any collector of fine German shotguns about Charles Daly labeled guns and you will soon know that guns imported by Schovering, Daly, and Gales labeled under the “Charles Daly” name were of the highest quality. Daly guns were made by several gunmaking firms but none are more sought after than the “Prussian Dalys”, or more importantly the “Lindner Dalys”. Heinrich August Lindner had apprenticed under his father, George Lindner until 1874 when he established his own firm. His creations are noted by the “HAL” stamping atop a pair of crossed pistols stamped at the base of the barrels just forward of the flats. H.A. Lindner guns are legendary for quality, beauty, and function. This is a Grade No. 275 gun as the level of engraving, ejectors, and checkering tell us this gun was sold for $275 in or around 1908, hence its grade designation. The Lindner Daly guns were made with the utmost attention to detail, with all internal parts highly polished and 5 locking mechanisms to keep the barrels tight to the standing breech; two under-lug bolts, Greener style hidden cross bolt, sideclips, and barrel lug protruding through the bottom of the frame. The back of the action is scalloped, the breech balls finely filed to a graceful round with scalloped top area, the bottom of the action rounded with file sculpted bolsters…the most graceful Anson/Deeley action you will ever witness. The nicely figured European walnut has superb wood-to-metal fit, perfect 28LPI checkering, with the ball grip detailed with a horn inlay at its apex. The horn butt plate is still perfectly fit to the butt stock with a graceful curve. The forend is long and graceful, with perfect checkering and a slight schnabel horn tip. The barrels are the finest Witten Excelsior Steel with perfect bores, lettering, and rib matting. I have looked this gun over under lighted magnification and the details are crisp and sharp. The condition of the gun may be too good to be true for it to be a factory original finished gun. It is likely that the barrels have been reblued and the stock refinished at some point in this gun’s life. The engraving on the receiver is so sharp and clear that it is hard to believe that it is not original, but it may be restored as well. All metal and wood finishes exceed 99%, all screws are perfect, the 100% coverage engraving is clear, sharp, deep, and lovely, with highly detailed borders and tiny English scroll on top of shaded cuts, a gorgeous game scene of ducks over a marsh on the bottom of the receiver and a gorgeous pointer on the elaborately engraved trigger guard. Everything is tight as new and the mechanics are perfect. Weight is just 5lbs. 14oz. and the gun puts a smile on your face when brought to shoulder. This is a masterpiece of the gunmaker’s art and a very rare, high grade gun. This is a gun that is up to any shooting, in the field or on the clays course. Lindner Daly guns are grand investment vehicles and this exceptional gun will continue to gain value as you enjoy it.
