This Colt Single Action Army revolver was shipped to Wyeth Hardware & Mfg. Co., St. Joseph, Missouri on December 24, 1902 (serial #237194) with 35 other guns. It was shipped with a 4.75” barrel. Here’s where it gets interesting. It was returned to the factory sometime between 1912 and 1929. This is evidenced by the upside-down ampersand stamped on the right rear trigger guard bow and the assembly numbers on almost all parts (421B). Also, the walnut grips have the forward-facing, deep-set medallions which were only used between 1910 and 1929. Further, the original 1902 4.75” barrel would have had the old style, smaller tapered front sight. This 7.5” barrel has the larger, thicker sight which was in use from about 1912. It has, however, been made closer to the contours of the earlier sight, just thicker. This Colt has probably 80% of its factory refurbished blue finish and a fair amount of case coloring visible. The leading edges of the cylinder show wear and bare metal on two sides from being holstered. The hammer, which was cased, is the original 1902 part as are most everything other than the barrel. This includes the beveled cylinder. It has fire blued screws in good shape and all its clicks and hammer notches. It is mechanically tight, and the bore is about perfect. All in all, this is a fine condition Colt with scarce special order grips. The holster housing the gun is heavy leather, double loop, hand made and machine stitched, but not maker marked. A close look will show a short line of old stitch holes at the very bottom of the skirt which would indicate it was cut down, or made from leather that previously had another use. It is in good, serviceable condition. If you are not aware, when you click on an individual picture, there are forward and back arrows in the upper left corner.
