Description: Fox AE 12ga. FULLY RESTORED TO NEW, BEST YOU WILL FIND

Finding high condition, factory original Fox guns is becoming exceedingly difficult as investors, shooters, and collectors have just about bought them all up. There are enough decent Fox A Grade 12ga. guns out there with 50-70% condition, but if you want ejectors the list gets cut by two thirds or so. And even then, you have a gun that has seen a lot of use, is marginally attractive to the eye, and likely has a few mechanical issues after 75 years or so of hard use. So, you buy the marginal gun and have it restored, right? But who does the work? How long will they have the gun? How much will it cost? Most importantly, how will it all turn out quality-wise? After paying nearly $1500 for the gun, another $2000 for the restoration, and waiting more than a year for the project to be completed, you get a gun that may or may not please you. Why am I going through this question and answer exercise? To demonstrate the value of this first rate restored Fox.

This AE Grade, sn 23001, was made in 1916. The metal has been restored to perfection and the gun has been expertly restocked with highly figured feather crotch walnut. Everything is complete, you know the total cost, you know the quality of the finished product, and there is no waiting time besides a week or so of pack and ship. I have had many double shotguns restored, and the workmanship on this gun is top rate. The 30” Krupp steel barrels have excellent bores, choked F/F, internal bore diameter factory at .724 right and left, minimum barrel wall thickness of 42 thou right, 43 thou left, no dents or dings, 2 ¾” chambers, tight ribs, barrels tight on breech face and hinge pin like a new gun, likely #1 weight barrels (if not they are #2 weight for sure; the gun weighs 7lbs. 11oz), really a great set of barrels.

The action retains 100% case color that is very factory like in appearance, perfect screws, crisp double triggers, strong perfectly timed ejectors, action tight as new with lever to the right of center. When the gun was case colored the entire receiver was stripped to the smallest parts, thoroughly cleaned and all parts inspected, then properly lubed and re-assembled. It is a great way to start your new ownership with this Fox, everything tuned and working properly.

The wood is fabulous and historically correct in the checkering and shape. Of course, the A Grade would never have wood this nice, as it is XXX quality wood for sure. The LOP is 14” to butt plate, 2 ½” drop at heel, 1 5/8” drop at comb, neutral cast, no cracks or repairs, excellent wood to metal fit, just gorgeous.

When you add the cost of a quality restock to the price of the metal restoration you would have invested more than $4000 getting this gun in this condition PLUS THE PRICE OF THE GUN. Again, no wait, known cost, known end product, no risk on your part, just a great Fox that looks factory new ready for clays or birds. For those of you looking for the ultimate vintage clays gun, this is it. The weight will reduce felt recoil, the long barrels will keep you swinging, and of course all the other shooters will covet your new Fox!

There are more photos upon request. There is a 30 day mechanical warranty on this gun. PLEASE SEE OUR OTHER VINTAGE FIREARMS ON THIS WEBSITE.
