From its civilian domicile in Alaska comes this serviceable and still attractive specimen of the Star PD .45 ACP pistol, as far as we know the first production 1911 style sub compact. From its T 1 date code, it was manufactured in 1975, the First Year of Production of a series that lasted until the Colt 1991 Officer debuted 16 years later. Garcia liquidated around 1978, and Mr. Sam Cummings morphed the non-Berettas into Interarms Corporation, so this is a rare Garcia Star PD. Manufacturer was Star Echeverria of Eibar, Spain. Importer was Garcia Corp. of Washington, D.C. Type is Browning Descendant blowback semi-automatic pistol, single action only. Construction is black anodized finish lightweight alloy frame, blued steel slide and internal parts. Barrel is 3 3/4 inch with full length guide rod. Hammer is color casehardened .318 checker serrated short spur. Trigger is .226 serrated face white steel sides with blued face. Barrel chamber hood area and extractor are white steel. Grips are original factory checkered Spanish Walnut. Sights are stake on serrated blade front and low profile windage and elevation adjustable rear. Slide thickness measures only .90 inch at the port; height is 4 7/8 inches from the magazine plate to the top of the rear sight; overall length measures 7 inches from the muzzle to the end of the grip frame strut; and weight empty is only 24 3/4 ounces. Safety is left side mounted lever type, main safety only for right handed shooter; the PD does not have a magazine or firing pin safety. Trigger pull is 3 1/2 ounces with no felt creep. Capacity is 6 + 1 rounds of .45 ACP Ammunition, best to use standard load ball or rounded shouldered hollow point, and best to avoid hot loaded or sharp-shouldered hollowpoint ammunition. Surface detractions are moderate, principally moderate freckling on the forward sides and edge of the slide, on the extractor and chamber hood; and carry whitening on the edges and trigger guard face. We rate this PD as Very Good, 75 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Edge wear to the spring buffer is moderate, and the same holds true to the guide rod face inside the frame. We estimate this pistol has been fired 400 to 500 times.
