Here is a sweet shooting Winchester, the Ranger 140 Auto. From its N1,020,000 range serial number, it was manufactured in 1986 or 1987. It comes to us from a New England Estate. Manufacturer was Olin-owned Winchester Repeating Arms of New Haven, CT. Type is gas operated semi-automatic shotgun. Construction is steel barrel, bolt, magazine, and internal parts fitted into an alloy receiver with a polymer trigger group housing; and with hardwood stock and forend. Chambering is 12 gauge, 2 3/4 inch shells only. Barrel is 28 inches long, with threaded Winchester Winchoke®, interchangeable choke system, compatible also with Mossberg Accu-Choke and old style Browning Invectors. Included tube is a .697 muzzle Full, NOT for use with steel shot. Sight system is 13 port Ventilated Rib that measures .290 high at the barrel lug. Rib is .385 wide, with steel housed, Green Fiber Optic Ray-Bar type HiViz Sight. Magazine holds 2 rounds of 2 3/4 inch shells, 2 + 1 fully loaded capacity; so no adapter or plug needed for compliance with waterfowl or migratory bird laws. Trigger is .250 smooth faced steel, pulls at 7 pounds vicinity with moderate felt creep, but minimal overtravel. Safety is gunsmith reversible, forward of the trigger, set up for right handed shooters. Buttstock and forend are dark stained hardwood, with diamond pattern machine cut checkering on all three forend faces, and on the pistol grip area of the buttstock. Butt plate is Winchester Repeating Arms factory black polymer. Length of pull is 13 7/8 inches; standard 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inch drop and 1 inch right hand cant. The wood is attractive semi-gloss finish with light and dark contrast figure to it. Weight empty is 7 pounds, 8 ounces, with center of gravity at the breech face. Finish is polished surface blued barrel and furniture, white steel bolt, and gloss black anodized receiver. Wood finish is semi gloss oil. Surface detractions on this Ranger are minimal to moderate, principally some contact scouring that happened after its owner passed away. We rate it as Very Good, close to Excellent, 85 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves.
