Mystery Shotgun - Can You Identify It? Guns > Shotguns > Browning Shotguns > Autoloaders > Hunting
Description: Can you identify this? We took in a shotgun that has so far managed to defy our best efforts at identification. At first glance, it looks like a Remington model 11 or other Browning A-5 knockoff, but the anomalies quickly manifest themselves from there. The gun features the same type of operation as the A-5 or Model 11 shotguns – the barrel can be used to cock the gun, and it has a hump-backed receiver. Distinct to the action however, is a knurled dust cover that is integrally engaged with the cocking lever. The bottom of the receiver features a hinged floor-plate with a latch that covers the loading gate. When the gun is cocked, the bolt can be released by pulling down on the floorplate. The gun otherwise features a walnut stock and forend with a rather obtuse thick black buttplate (not recoil pad), a blued action and barrel with no single identifying mark, a Cutts Compensator with brass bead, and a second silver bead on the front of the receiver. The left side of the receiver has a brass colored medallion inlaid with the date August 1927, although we believe this to have been done post-manufacture. The receiver shows signs of having been reblued. The stock has a split running the length of the comb, and repairs have been brilliantly effected with electrician’s tape. A taped label on the right side of the buttstock reveals no more than the name of a former owner. If you have any information that might identify this peculiar firearm, please contact us at .
