R. Thompson. Marked on barrel "H.R.THOMPSON/JACKSON MICH". 32-3/4" octagon barrel with turned-round muzzle of about .36 caliber bore. Iron parts have a dark brown patina overall with a little pitting in the nipple area. Has attractively shaped plain German silver furnishings and pewter forearm nose cap. Ramrod pipes were resoldered. Has large original sights on the barrel and a provision for a peep sight in the wrist. Stock is attractively grained with nicely striped butt. Has a stress crack in the lower lock mortise, likely from the mainspring, which extends around the triggerguard to the other side.
