In WWII there was a rifle shortage and the Americans built the 1917 to model the 1914 "Enfield" these two rifles are so similar when the Americans sold over a million to Britain to be used by their home guard it was needed to paint a stripe around the butt so there was a way to distinguish the difference between the two rifles. This rifle is a eddy rifle made in Eddystone Pa. there where over 2,200,000 rifles built by Remington Winchester and Eddystone between 1917 and 1918.
