This listing is for the exact rifle in the photos. After a 40 year hiatus on high powered rifles, Mossberg came back strong in 2007 with its 4x4 series, now tried and proven. Here is the 4x4’s successor, the Mossberg Patriot .243. Manufacturer and warrantor is O.F. Mossberg of New Haven, CT, with facilities in Eagle Pass, TX. Type is bolt action high powered center fire rifle with detachable magazine. Caliber is .243 Winchester. Barrel is 22 inch medium matte blue finish, with 6 groove 1:10 right hand button rifling. Receiver is short action, 4 1/8 inch screw spread, furnished with Weaver #51 and #36 Bases. Bolt is blue steel body, with matte blue face assembly, handle, and cowl. Safety is forward type, very quiet, and mounted on the right side behind the bolt handle. Trigger is Mossberg’s LBA Lightning Bolt Action accu trigger, factory set on 3 pound vicinity and with minimal felt creep. Stock is strong but pliable graphite based black synthetic with checkered surfaces on the forend and pistol grip areas; blue steel QD swivel sling or bipod studs, and with Monte Carlo cheek piece. Magazine is internal, and holds 4 rounds of ammunition, 4+1 total capacity. Length of pull is 13 1/4 inches from the trigger face to the end of the 3/4 inch decelerator type factory recoil pad. Weight empty no scope is 6 pounds 10 ounces, with center of gravity at the chamber mouth. This Patriot came to us from Mossberg’s distribution system. It likely served as a showgirl with Mossberg’s reps and writers. We call it a factory demo. Surface detractions are minimal, really no more operation streaking and faint edge whitening than what one sees on many new display guns in stores. It comes in a relabeled Mossberg factory box with lock and instruction manual that contains Mossberg’s warranty statement. If it was fired at all, we estimate it was fewer than 50 to 100 times. No more than 1 in 5 of its mates left any green copper on our cleaning patches. We rate it as Excellent, 90 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. Replacement pricing on similar rifles from competitors Remington and Savage is upwards of $700 apiece.
