From its 305000, K suffix serial number, this Walther PPK was manufactured in 1940. It comes to us from an estate heir in Marin County California, and we do not have its history or papers. It is not import stamped, so it likely is a North Bay Area Vet bring back. We identify German Eagle over N on the chamber area that shows through the ejection port with a matching proof mark on the slide beside it; and another on the right side of the barrel muzzle. Since the marking on the barrel is clear and crisp, we do not believe the barrel itself was reblued. At least it was not buffed. Manufacturer, of course, was Karl Walther as supplier for the Wehrmacht, the Nazi Regime. Model is PPK, caliber .32 ACP or 7.65 Browning as the Europeans designate the caliber. Construction is entirely blue steel, with white buffed chamber exterior. Grips are factory issue Walther, possibly the original grips to the pistol. Magazine is 7 round finger rest variant, and we know it to be an Interarms period replacement but it is factory Walther nevertheless. Surface detractions are moderate to extensive; that depends on what one makes of the residual surface pitting left over after the reblue. We estimate that 20 percent of the slide surfaces, principally their slide flats, show resitual pitting. That is not the case with other areas of the pistol. Muzzle and edge whitening are post-refinish. We rate this Wartime Walnher as Good, perhaps Very Good, refinish; photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. This pistol is excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent.
