In the 70’s and 80’s when IHMSA (handgun metallic silhouette shooting out to 200 yards) was in it’s prime, Juenke took the popular Contender and built it into an ultimate “Unlimited” class pistol to take on the Remington XP-100’s which were very popular. He cleaned-up and reworked the frame, basically "blueprinting" the gun. This pistol is built like a bank vault - TIGHT. It is incredibly accurate and an absolutely beautiful pistol. The .270VJ cartridge is a wildcat built from a .222 Rem Mag necked to .270. In IHMSA the shooter must not only hit a target at 200 yards, but that target weights 55 pounds and only counts if it is knocked over, more accurately simulating handgun hunting. This pistol, in this chambering, makes an incredibly accurate AND powerful combination - great for competition as well as hunting. This pistol is fitted with an adjustable micrometer-style rear Williams notch/front hooded post setup. RCBS full length dies are included. American Handgunner magazine published an article on Vern Juenke and the .270VJ Contender in Jan/Feb 1981. This can be found online, but I have included the pages here for simplicity. This explains more about this pistol than I could. Mr. Juenke passed away in Sept, 2018 at 92.
