Here is Charter’s Bulldog Snub On Duty, with shroud protected hammer, on the order of the S&W Bodyguard, only in .44 Special caliber. Manufacturer and warrantor is Charter Arms of Shelton, CT. Factory variant number is 744100. Type is traditional double and single action true swingout revolver. Chambering is .44 Smith & Wesson Special caliber. Construction is steel barrel assembly, main frame, cylinder assembly, and working parts; with alloy trigger guard and grip frame; and with factory rubber combat finger groove grips. Barrel is one piece 2 1/2 inch, with 8 groove right hand 18 3/4 rifling in a full lug shroud. Sights are solid rib integral ramp front with frame integral fixed notch rear. Cylinder is 5 shot, and the Charter accepts ammunition from a CA44 size speedloader. Trigger is .310 serrated face, with matching serrated spur hammer that is partially encased in the extended frame so that it can fire single action but with diminished snag effect on clothing from the hammer. Charters generally pull double action in the 12 – 14 pound vicinity, and 4 pound area single action, with minimal felt creep. Ignition is floating firing pin, with transfer bar safety mechanism that prevents the hammer from contacting the pin unless the trigger is fully depressed. Weight empty is 19 3/4 ounces, with center of gravity at the cylinder stop. This revolver is not a fun gun to shoot with full house loads. Main frame, barrel, and cylinder are matte stainless, with a matching coated alloy grip frame / trigger guard. This Charter and its mates come to us from Charter’s distribution system. They are what we call factory demos, and likely served as a sales rep’s sample. Surface detractions are negligible, really no more cylinder rotation marking than one sees on new display pieces in shops across the country. They are unfired, only handled a bit. Each Bulldog comes in its original box with instruction manual, parts list, Charter Decal, gun lock, YHSA brochure, and never executed factory registration form with Charter lifetime warranty statement.
